97' Impreza P0122
golucky66 replied to palfer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXEither you left it unplugged, damaged the wiring, or damaged the throttle body. Check the wires and the connector. If both of those are ok. You probably need a new throttle body

Interference motors and types of possible internal damage
golucky66 replied to mickytrus's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhen I've had to do it, i just take an angle grinder and cut a grove in the bolt from the very bottom, in the threads at a slight angle to allow for a debris to go in there instead of in the threads.

Interference motors and types of possible internal damage
golucky66 replied to mickytrus's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf you don't feel like spending the money on long(ish) taps or rethreaders. I've cut groves into old head bolts and used those to clean the threads.

2006 STI has seemingly random dash lights turning on.
golucky66 replied to buffington's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf the battery is damaged, defective, or even bad. Sometimes it can cause an overcharging condition as the ecm is trying to keep the battery at full charge but because the battery is bad, it doesn't understand why the battery won't take it's charge. And might command higher voltage. Also, when a battery is cold. The voltage will be higher. No 15.2v. But if it's 30 degrees out. You might see 14.6-14.7 for a bit until it warms up a little I'd suspect the alternator though.

2010 Outback Making Popping sound Please Help
golucky66 replied to Cason's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt still sounds like a bad axle. Did they use new? Remaned? Used? A lot of people have problems with new aftermarket axles. Either get a remaned one, or see if they'll install a used OEM one. I've rarely see motor mounts go bad on subarus. And the ones that do have 200k+ on them.

Intermittent loss of power
golucky66 replied to Evil02outback's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIn my experience a flaky tps will set a check engine light because it's a safety concern. If the ecm is seeing different signals from your sensors on the pedal verse on the throttle body. It doesn't want the car to run away. This is all assuming the car is drive by wire. Which i believe the outback in 02 were.

ABS diagnostic steps
golucky66 replied to milty60's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX9/10 times it's a wheel speed sensor that sets the light. You need to get the codes. Abs can be very difficult to diy diag it.

Can I replace JUST the timing belt
golucky66 replied to cascadeclimbn's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX^ agreed 100% My shop usually charges around 1k for the t belt service (I'm in CT :| ) And that's with an Asian kit. Oem seals etc. We do the job right. We can't even buy the Asian kit from out distributor for less then 300$... think about that. If they want 400$ total. Yeah. You can do it. I wouldn't I had to do a T belt on an 11 outback and my service writer got a conti kit. It had the gmb idlers, some no name water pump that didn't even look like the poem. I told them to get a different kit, preferably Asian, or I'm not doing the job

Dealer rebuilt the short block for oil consumption, now I have an oil leak.
golucky66 replied to nitroman58's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSo. You'd THINK all gaskets would be replaced. But on my 04 Baja, HGs were done about 50k ago (before i owned it). And the valve cover started leaking. So i went in to replace it. The technician who did the HGs REUSED the rubber valve cover gasket and coated the ENTIRE thing in RTV (not just the four small spots required) Imo, most dealer tech, especially on a warranty claim. They+the shop aren't going to replace anything that's not mission critical because A) they're flat rate and wanna get it back together ASAP. and B ) the dealership or customer would have to cover anything above what SOA would repay them for for the short block replacement. Either way, hack/rush job. See if they will fix it for you under warranty. And then take your car somewhere else for work.

DRLs Turn off once alternator is plugged in (3pin)
golucky66 replied to Mofo223's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX+1 on the junkyard. I've had good luck with junkyard alternators. Plus, in my experience they don't usually fail (OEM ones at least) so your chances with a junkyard are good

300,000 miles and counting
I have a customer whos 09 Outback has 255k on it. Runs great, consumes some oil, but what newer engine doesn't. I replaced the HGs on it at 230k. Customer loves his car and hates the newer outbacks. He's hopping to get 400+k out of the car

New user - new subie?!
With 18438 miles on it, there really isn't going to be anything wrong (shouldn't be) Price seems fair to me. By 2015 the oil consumption "issue" is fixed so it shouldn't have a consumption issue to worry about. I'm sure some other people can give you more detailed info. But with that low of mileage, there's not much to "look" for on the test drive. There shouldn't be anything wrong with it.

Interference motors and types of possible internal damage
golucky66 replied to mickytrus's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf it's an interference motor, run without covers at your own risk. Knowing that anything getting up there can cause the belt to slip, jump, break, etc and you need valves then. I've heard some people run without them. I would not on an interference engine.

Looking at turbo upgrade 06 Baja
I don't remember which side of the line it's on for the turbo feed, sorry. And i ended up checking on my dad 06 for them after i removed them from my 04 (they were destroyed and in pieces) but his car didn't have them. I checked anyways, peace of mind. If you check yours. Don't lose the two copper washers.

Looking at turbo upgrade 06 Baja
It does however have the filter in the banjo bolt for the oil feed to the turbo (if i remember correctly) i know mine (04 Baja turbo) had it, just dont remember which oil line on the turbo had it.

Looking at turbo upgrade 06 Baja
06 Baja do not have those filters in the AVCS solenoids. I know both from experience and studying the tsb to fix an issue on my dads 06 turbo Baja. The filters were only in the Baja's from 04-05 (maybe on the NA too, but i don't remember)

2008 Outback Check engine light
golucky66 replied to gregB's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI had so many issues. And i mean a lot. With cleared the codes on a subie and then they not idle properly. There's a funky relearn procedure that you'll have to do if it doesn't learn on it's on. I ended up using a different scanner whenever i work on subies to prevent that issue. At least on my scan tool. It seems ton cause issues with the idle on 05-09 models. Let me know if you want to know how to do the relearn without the factory tool.
- Thanks for having me

'16 Forester Rollover accident -- trying to diagnose problems
golucky66 replied to freekraz's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou need to get a scanner that can get into the abs and airbag. You're really not going to be able to dish much without it. OBD only gives codes for the engine (typically). I agree the seat belt pretensioner is like an issue but the abs you have no where to start without the codes.
