  1. 19" Passenger side 21" driver side... you mean the top of the outer side of the windshield or right straight on top? Inquiring minds still want to know... any play when wipers are off?
  2. Common things happen commonly... That having been said, I had a 94 with gas smells and it was in fact as Skip notes, the corroding filler pipe right iniside the rear wheel by the filler tube. There is a "protective" shroud that covers the lower part of the tube. It traps mud and crud and is just the right environment for rust. SO, even if your problem is related to the cannister under the hood, get under the car and flush the crud out of this area.
  3. Nippy, I think he means that the arm travels too far in the up AND down swing. Have you checked that the linkage and the attaching nut is secure? Is it noticeable just on one side? Correct size wipers... I guess this might not be as critical but just asking questions... nosey, huh.
  4. What I hoped to infer was that while the suggestion to change the PVC was a cheap and easy fix, by rattling the valve, you might also be able to immediately differentiate whether the PCV was the problem and not just another of many things that should/could be done. By the way John, your ! key seems to be stuck or dragging.
  5. Probably hasn't been done before so likely due and a darned cheap and easy fix. I've been told that if you take it off and shake it and can hear the valve rattle, it's probably still OK.
  6. Take heed little grasshopper... someday you will be the bug and not the windshield;)
  7. Thanks. I guess I'll crawl out there and give it a shot when it warms up to the point that my head doesn't crack going outside. Brrrrr.
  8. So is there a fix for tired dust seals? My 2000 Legacy with similar 95K+/- mileage has developed the squeaking the rear going over bumps. Is it possible to lube and replace dust seals?
  9. You betcha, I'd have drugged that Subie by the nostrils right in for the new HGs... come to think of it... I already did that with my 2000 and feel more secure in regards the future:banana:.
  10. OK Billyboy, it seems that if the recall campaign was performed for your vehicle, just drive right to Subaru and have them replace the HGs. The car is warranteed not the owner. The warrantee is transferrable. It's not necessary to indicate all of the other "information" about things that were done since then. Tell all that sort of "information" stuff to your spiritual counselor. Do you really think SOA is telling you ALL of their "information"?
  11. The dreaded head gasket leak on that year model leaks from the rear cylinder on the driver's side. Make sure you had the coolant additive done under the extended warranty which is good for 8 years and/or 100,000 miles. If you didn't have the stop-leak additive, then go get it FREE. After a few weeks, if it still leaking, go back in and report the leak and let SOA replace your headgaskets FREE. If it is leaking, it is also doubtful that the stop-leak stuff will work in the long run.
  12. WO, Thanks for the offer. I will PM you.
  13. Anyone know where I can pick up a 360 roof panel that hasn't been in a rollover. A buddy has one with a few cracks and is getting lazy about repairing it. Tan would be lovely and could you deliver it please? BTW nice to see ya around Moosens and Nipper, what are you doing over here?
  14. Nippy, you show your age, young fellow. Age does have its benefits in experience as possibly in this case. Hopefully the driver is OK?
  15. If the tranny is the same as my 2000 Legacy AT, there is a known delayed engagement issue?? When mine went, SOA replaced the tranny under warranty but I think that's because they didn't want techs futzing around with tranny innards. The fix might not be so daunting for a tranny shop. Not sure.
  16. How were you able to break in? I am studying Car Theft 101 and would like to add to my skills.
  17. Warm it up and pour it over the castle walls when the infidels approach .
  18. Hey Nip, I've always wondered if you ever completely change the fluid with the sequential drain and fill method or you just dilute the contaminants that remain in the 2/3 total volume that remained from the first drain and at each subsequent drain and fill. Riddle me that Batman;)
  19. Is there a sunroof and did you notice this after a rain or has it been dry where you are? There are drain lines from up yonder that can clog or separate and the sunroof gasket can leak as well. There is a TSB about water coming in around the map light area if you go to NHTSA website. I guess you coul drain the washer tank and run the lines dry and see if the car dries up in a few days to eliminate (or convict) the washer line as a culprit. There are drain holes in front of the windshield under the hood at the corners that can become clogged by leaves etc. and allow water to enter through the fresh air vent.
  20. I'm getting a feeling... a dark feeling... looking at the pictures that that blue car is about... it's about... to throw a rod...
  21. This is great info if it can be put in the Repair Manual section for safekeeping. A picture says it all when you forgot to drop breadcrumbs along the trail to guide you back.
