  1. i could get about 8 1/2 liters more in the tank if i filled it to the lip of the inlet, as against when the pump clicked off on its own. then i switched to lpg= no cheating when the filler pump says 'thats it'.
  2. as far as i know subaru and audi where developing AWD at the same time.....and both came up with the same solution to the same problems
  3. ea81 and 4wd conversion would at least make your brat perform the same as those in the rest of the world. a high flow air filter (K&N etc) shouldn't harm your motor, although you might have to rejet the carburetor. some ea71's came factory with twin carbs
  4. bolt out....bolt in. you'll need to extend a couple of wires for your oil pressure and water temp sensors. the coil also needs moved to rear of the engine bay cos the dizz is on the back end of one of the heads. not sure about the exhaust pipe (i didn't look under the conversion i saw)
  5. hey Matt, did you get it all to work.......what was the dyno results if ya did?
  6. matty b with the ej22 Brumby has looked at swapping ej18 heads onto his motor but decided against it as the ej18 heads are too restrictive.
  7. id like to see a legacy go some of the places that i've been in my brumby....i've seen a legacy stuck due to lack of approch/departure clearance where the old mans '82 2wd toyota hiace van went through without a drama. besides all those electrics really don't like water
  8. don't need ecu and harness if i get ej18 heads...i've got a distributor and inlet inlet manifold off a carbureted ej18....
  9. if i could easily get a ej22 i would, but im in new zealand and we didn't get many ej22's. EJ20 dohc and ej18's are easy to get hold of here (ej25's are so expensive that its not even funny) an ej20 sohc would be the bomb, but most here are dohc
  10. im guessing that someone got lazy..... if it works properly why worry.
  11. there isn't anying that i can't fix myself with my own tool kit. complex electronics suck
  12. from what i have read its possible to swap sohc heads (ej18) to a dohc ej20 n/a block. this would allow me to swap an ej20 into a brumby without cutting the frame rails. i know that swapping ej18 heads onto a ej22 gives about 11 or 12:1 compression ratio.....anyone got any idea of what the compression would be if the same heads went onto a ej20 n/a block? (im disregarding the smaller valves and passages in the ej18 heads as i don't want a high RPM motor, bottom end and midrange are more important to me)
  13. try cleaning the contactors in the high-low beam switch, my fathers mazda truck does the same thing every so often, a few minutes work with a bit of fine sandpaper and its all business again
  14. shouldn't need to modify things if you pick your parts right, it should be plug-an-play
  15. ethanol's fuel/air ratio is 9:1 menthanol's 6:1 petrol's 14.7:1 LPG 15.8:1 diesels F/A ratio changes from 60+:1 at idle to as low as 8:1 under full power+heavy load
  16. disty/ carb/ intakemanifold cost $150 the guy dosn't have any more, but you might want get your guy that sourced you current dizz to look for a ej18 carb distributor they in the early model ('89?) legacy DL i think, i will keep a eye open for one for ya though. if you do find one, get the backing/adjustment plate as well.
  17. backfiring- chuck a timing light on it you might get lucky and only have timing out. pull the carb apart an give it a serious degunk
  18. they don't change the oil...however over here about 80% of the cars on the road are used jap imports and we don't have much problem with the engines that that didn't get an oil change till they hit the used car lots here. thats not to say that a few of them don't go bang but its not generally a consideration when buying a used import vs used NZ new. if the comp's are good and it dosen't make any untoward noises i wouldn't worry about it
  19. Matt, did you have to space your crossmember down so the intake manifold would clear the bonnet? i just read a ea to ej thread on AUsubaru and it was talking about having to put spacers in to lower the enginemount crossmember 25mm
