Got my motor completely dissasembled.... enjoy the pix
9 months ago it looked like this: Oh the days This is a EA82 Turbo. I will be putting a high compression block in from a N/A MPFI or SPFI or whatever I can find with the lowest milage at the junkyard. It will be about 9.0 or 9.5:1 (depending on wether you ask Caleb or WJM :-P ) -Brian

And holy CRAP theres alot of stuff on these EA82's. Only other motor Ive done was a EA81, and those are cake. I sure hope I can get all this stuff back together on the new block... and running. We'll see Im filthy tho, and exhausted. I'll go clean up and you guys can enjoy the pix: "Bad Piston! BAD!" About as split as I can get it: The operating table in the ER: Plenty more where those came from too: http://gallery.usmb.net/album42 Next! Get another block and repeat the process in reverse. -Brian

Reno/Carson City Yard run, Saturday 12/17
I gotta find me a low mileage block somehow. Ive already looked here in Sacramento and I think my odds of finding what I need are better in Nevada. So this Saturday I'm planning a trip up there. Figure I'll hit the PnP in Sparks NV and if I cant find a good enough motor there then head to Carson City and scope out the yards there. Dave... whens the last time youve been to carson? Any idea how many EA82's are there? Im looking for a Loyale in the '90-'91 era thats been T-boned or rear ended. Something that looks like it ended up in the yard for something other than engine related problems. Who's in? Will need some extra hands to pull the motor out of the car. -Brian

RX ran like poop and had check eng light on. FIX
I pulled my temp sensor before my car blew up. The connector was so corroded I thought it was a single wire connector, not until I started to clean everything out I saw there were 2 terminals. After I cleaned everything up, it cleared all 5 ECU codes i had. Car didnt run much better, and a week later is when it spit the rod through the block. I gotta get me some of that electric grease stuff. -Brian

hey you guys that upgraded your Turbos,
The TD04 from a WRX or the VF11 from a Turbo legacy is a near bolt-on. You just need to make a small modification to your up-pipe in order to mount the turbo. However, the rear of the turbo will not bolt to your stock downpipe, so you will need a WRX downpipe (works for both legacy and wrx turbos). Another problem is the air outlet from the turbo to your intake is slightly different. Where our VF7 comes out straight up, the other turbos are at an angle... therefore you will need to get creative with the air intake. If you want to install an intercooler, now is the time to do it, as that would solve the problem with the air intake. -Brian

Bay Area/NorCal USMB Meet! (gauging interest)
My RX threw a rod. Right now the motor is out and sitting on my workbench in the garage. Waiting for a new block then I can re-assemble the motor and should be up and running in a few weeks. -Brian

installing an EA82 (NA into Turbo) block.
I unbolted the downpipe from the back of the turbo. My exhaust is all 1 piece, no flanges at the end of the downpipe. Once the engine was on my workbench I removed the turbo and up-pipe. -Brian

installing an EA82 (NA into Turbo) block.
When i removed my EA82T, I 1st removed the intake manifold with the smog canister and all the hoses. Then I removed the block from the car with heads, and turbo attatched. When i reinstall the motor, it will be complete. -Brian

Milkshake any one?
Make sure your radiator is full. Then leave the cap off the radiator and run your engine. Let the engine idle and warm up. You want to reach operating temperatures and then look into the radiator through the cap. Look to see if there are any bubbles appearing. If the coolant in the radiator bubbles over a prolonged amount of time, and doesnt stop that is a sign of a faulty head gasket. A compression test on the engine will also reveal a bad gasket if one exists. -Brian
