RX engine dead!!
TheSubaruJunkie replied to eddygordouk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Damn!! I could have gotten you a parts car for free. Had a crate engine from japan in it with 80k on it. Oh well... Look into a company called "Rising Sun Engines" they import 60k EA's from japan and you can probably get one for under $450 -Brian -
Just got a Saab 900 IC...now what?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Would do almost no good unless your car was turbocharged. You can sell it off and make a good profit. I paid $40 for my Saab 900 IC. They are almost perfect for EA82 Turbo cars because the inlet and outlet are the exact same size as our Throttle Body. Here's mine installed: -Brian -
Wrecking yard question
TheSubaruJunkie replied to kingwill's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The junkyards here charge you $2 to enter. Regardless if you buy anything or not. They'd be stupid to turn people away. How are you supposed to check for the part you want, if they wont let you enter. Tell them, you are looking for an oil pump -Brian -
XT6 Update! Pics!!!
TheSubaruJunkie replied to SuBrat84's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You can find a generic pump pretty cheap. Try to find the fuel pressure specs and match them to a pump at Napa. Might be able to get one for under $40. If you've hard-wired your pump and still nothing... then yes, its dead. -Brian -
what do you think about this item from EBAY
TheSubaruJunkie replied to moshem74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Uhm... dont we already have magnetic drainplugs? I know the tranny plug is magnetic. -Brian -
RX sti front strut bar!?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to eddygordouk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I was looking at my Intercooler and I think if I reposition it I could fit a strut bar under the hood. Might need to get alittle more creative with the piping, but im sure it can be done. If you find one before me eddy, let me know I want one. -Brian -
Buddy's car stollen!!!
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Steveman09's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, i saw that one... also saw one in white, one in Yellow and a couple blue ones. Hope your friend finds his car. -Brian -
could u modify the top of struts?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to eddygordouk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you did the 5lug conversion, those struts would almost boltin. -Brian -
Is this too low?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Im going to have some spacers fabricated to lift it about .5" Then we'll see what happens. I dont like the fact I can no longer hit speed bumps at 35mph. -Brian -
RX sti front strut bar!?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to eddygordouk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Strut bars are easy to install. A small file should help modify the bolt holes if things dont line up right. Only problem is, the strut bar will get in the way of your intercooler. Or your intercooler in the way of the strut bar. -Brian -

Is this too low?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Maybe im doing it wrong then. I used a breaker bar at 1st, then the backend of my pickle fork. Then I used my baseball bat. The tires are 205/50R15's -Brian -
Is this too low?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah Dave I know. I guess no more off-road runs in the RX anymore huh. -Brian -
Is this too low?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think i'll take off the 15" alloys and put these on: Maybe powdercoated white to match the RX. -Brian -

Is this too low?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, i already rolled the fenders. Then i bottomed out again, it caught the fender and bent the lip down. Then proceeded to tear into my tire. I think im gonna break out the diegrinder and do alittle work. -Brian -
I installed the GR2's I got from the XT today. I think it maybe too low. The tires rub when ever I hit a bump. Sucks cause I really messed up my drivers side front tire. Also, the drivers side seems lower than the passenger side. I will keep the springs from my RX struts and put them in the GR2's to try to stiffen it up alittle. But I think i will also work on some sort of lift to try to gain alittle more tire clearance. Looks alot better than before IMO though. And here is my tire now There are more pictures here: http://gallery.usmb.net/album34 -Brian

What Head Gasket sealant?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Ross's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Wether to use sealant or not is gasket specific. Some gaskets require a specific sealant and will usually come with it. Others are designed not to use a sealant and if you do you will actually make it easier for the gasket to fail. I would have read any instructions included with your head gasket set. I did a set on EA81 and bought some sealent that was rated for use with the gaskets I had purchased. The gaskets were FelPro from Napa. -Brian -
I dont know if I'd throw fruit into them Soobmater. Probably project some vomit that way however. I guess i wouldnt mind seeing some spinners on something like this: -Brian

SCORE!!! With Strut questions.
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks caleb. I was just looking at your car, I dont know about your adjustable setup tho...those springs look pretty skinny. Im going to take the springs from the RX struts and put them on the KYB's. If worse comes to worse I dont mind cutting alittle from the front and rear of the fender. I do know where to get some XT6 swaybars, but I will see how these struts perform before I start adding more. Dont need overkill. -Brian -

TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the tire calculator sais my tires are only .2" taller than yours Brad. I think i will be safe. -Brian -
You can get the spinning hubcaps in 13" but we're talking about chromed rims, the real deal. -Brian

Me vs Modded WRX!
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Steveman09's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I didnt miss the part where you mentioned the roads were wet. And even in 4WD all 4 tires couldnt even get traction. The roads could have been deserted, but there was one other driver on the street with you. The WRX, and it only takes one stupid mistake.... well, nevermind. Im not your dad. -Brian
