  1. Its not rocket science.... I did have it installed wrong initially and the turbo wouldnt boost past 6psi, no matter where the dial was. Now that Ive swapped the lines (to the correct configuration) it boost up too 15psi no matter where the dial is (and 15psi is when i let off the gas, im sure it would go higher). I was thinking of cutting the spring, but when I took it apart to seal the fittings, the pieces looked pretty cheap... im thinking of getting something alittle better if I cant get this one working. -Brian
  2. Well... i dont know what to do so Im just going to remove the MBC. Im thinking the unit itself is faulty, but the spring and bearing look to be in good condition. -Brian
  3. Add a 3" lift and another 6" of tire and it gets worse. My EA81 with a 4spd Manual would average 35-45 through the mountain passes of Northern California, and the mountain passes between California and Oregon are even worse. If you want move oomphf, get a weber DGEV 32/36 to replace your old carb. -Brian
  4. Nope... looks like Andrew was right: Mine is on the other side. -Brian
  5. Im pretty sure my tach is on the right side of my speedo. -Brian
  6. NIIIICE!! Hurry and restore it. Since its RHD im guessing you are overseas somwhere... that and it has dual carbs. Very nice find! -Brian
  7. I installed my Manual Boost Controller today, and even with the spring at its lowest tension the thing still makes over 15psi of boost. I cant seem to regulate it and get it down to 9-10psi. I made sure it was installed correctly. -Brian
  8. I fixed a leak in my wastegate plumbing and the turbo stopped boosting to 8psi and is now only at 6psi max boost. I just installed a Manual Boost Controller today to over-ride that, we'll see how well she handles at 10psi. -Brian
  9. Yeah, your car has both... a wastegate and a dashpot. -Brian
  10. The only thing the DMV will see is the smog cert. and the title. You'd need to find a mechanic who could wing it and let you slide... i dont know of any. If you'd like my advice, i'd say save about 2 years of hassle and pulling hair... get a JDM EA82T and get the RX running. -Brian
  11. Not only do they check under the hood, but they run VIN & Engine Serial numbers through their computer. Their computer's are linked to California via modem and cross refference everything input into the computer by the mechanic. If the mechanic is doing his job properly, there's no way for you to get a EJ20 by them. However, if the mechanic fibs when he inputs the information, and had the stock serial number for the engine... and the EJ20 passed the sniffer, then the state would never know. -Brian
  12. http://www.subaruguy.com/pricing.htm Woah! Those are some of the most reasonable prices ive seen for any Subaru work. The guy seems like he knows what he's doing, good find Noah. -Brian
  13. Since you live in Cali, you MUST use a EA82T. And you MUST use all the stock emissions stuff from your car, with your new engine. Only way your going to register a EJ20 swap in Cali is if you do it to a Subaru pre-'75 -Brian
  14. Woah, dont know about those 4x100 rims or whatever he's running, but that EA81 and that Forester look really nice. Where's he been hiding? -Brian
  15. As long as they're open when i wake up Zap thats a perfect idea. SCORE!! -Brian
  16. Theft would be the last fear I would have at the WCSS. Im more affraid of throwing a piston or running out of money rather than someone getting into my car. These shows are pretty mild and you will notice right away just how friendly everyone is. I would hate to think that someone would try to rip off another friend at the WCSS. As far as the Convoy... I believe there will be alot of us from California, Nevada and Portland leaving the Vancouver area Friday morning. Not sure what time just yet. -Brian
  17. Ive never tried to fit a stereo in the lower half. Usually there's a cubby there. I think it maybe too skinny for a standard DIN stereo but a nice EQ would fit there almost perfectly. -Brian
  18. I Tried to torque down my oil pan bolts one time to spec, and i snapped 4 of them. just tighten them until they're snug! Use a good sealant for the gasket and you will have no problems. -Brian
  19. Cool... i want to put some stickers under the hood and they wont stick to that foam -Brian
  20. Before: After: I used the front struts from a 2WD XT. I lucked out and found one in the junkyard that had KYB GR2's in it Its too low however, and Ive had to change rims to 13" alloys to keep the tires from rubbing. -Brian
  21. Can i just get rid of it.. i mean, it doesnt really serve a purpose does it? Plus I need to cut for my hood scoop, and I dont want it getting in the way. -Brian
