Best exhaust system for a EA81 Brat
TheSubaruJunkie replied to FlyB0y's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
2" would be the best. use the stock Y pipe and have 2" pipe welded to the rear. Straight pipe sounds good, but a nice muffler will help to create some backpressure and bring your low end power back. -Brian -
BRAT Entertainment
TheSubaruJunkie replied to NuclearBacon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Probably the same dude who said "rock your mullet" here when he tried to sell his '82 Black Brat for $2k. -Brian -
If its speed dependant then that would point to bearings as well. They are kinda tough to tear apart, i hear its easier to swap the rear hub with one from a good car. -Brian

Toy with the timing... find out what it's at stock and bump it up 5 degree's or so If its carburated you can modify the carburator, but you must remove it. You dont need to dismantle it but you can make it so it will open both barrels manually. Ive done it on my EA81 and i could tell a difference. -Brian

if its a constant sound than it could be bearings. If its intermittent and causes vibration its probably a CV. Rear CV's rarely go out on stock sube's, so im thinking maybe its a bearing. -Brian

Turbo coupe gets a little face lift
TheSubaruJunkie replied to subaru_styles's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I drove it out of him over AIM. I had to sell him my soul, but its worth it! I dont think Im going to put clear lenses in the turn signals until i find a way to wire a 120watt bulb or something -Brian -

I think it was the time we got in a high speed chase in Longview... or was that the same trip. The trip when i we got stranded at Mt. Hood was my 2nd vacation when I was a senior. That was 6 years ago. -Brian -

I got your gas money. Maybe after i get back from the show. And I think its been more than 6 years... my 1st winter vacation in Clatskanie was when I was a sophmore... that was like 8 years ago! 5 years ago you drove up to Seattle with Jason in his T-Bird to see me on my layover. I was looking at that Exedy clutch kit on ebay, and i think i'll get that. Im also going to re-seal my EA82 while its out. I could do it myself, but it would be cool to have you here to help -Brian -
THats not a bad price to have that lense shipped to you. Junkyard prices might be in the $30-$50 range for a complete composite light. The bulbs might be alittle costly as well. -Brian

Carbed...K&N...and....hood scoop???
TheSubaruJunkie replied to RainbowRoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Drill it on the outside edge of the lid. That way the filter is still sealed. You wouldnt want to drill holes in the center of the lid, cause that way unfiltered air would be able to enter the carb. If you dont want to buy a weber, you can do a 2bbl mod to the 2bbl hitachi's. I did it, and i think i have a write-up somewhere on it. -Brian p.s. FOUND IT! Here it is http://subaru4wd.usmb.net/Sep2002/howtos/carb.html -

suggestion of possible spoiler for RX
TheSubaruJunkie replied to eddygordouk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Stock spoiler's maximum downforce is around 0lbs of actual downforce. Our cars dont reach speeds where a spoiler will supply much downforce. The wieght of the spoiler itself is probably putting more downforce on our rear wheels than the wind that passes over it. As far as looks, I saw that fiero spoiler would look nice on a RX. If it were painted to match and installed properly. I think our coupes look 10,000x better with a spoiler. -Brian -
Carbed...K&N...and....hood scoop???
TheSubaruJunkie replied to RainbowRoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The K&N will help, the holes in the filter cover will help, but a scoop would do almost nothing. Would look cool tho. I cut a huge chunk out of the side of my filter lid on my carbbed EA81. I noticed a small difference. The weber is the best way to go. -Brian -
Motobike on the Brat ?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to edefauler's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Eli has one, he goes by SuBrat84. Where you at E? -Brian -
Yeah, i am cheap... i guess I wasted $12. There are some better looking ones for upwards of $90 to $100 that do the same thing though, they look like they're built alittle better but I dont know if its worth that much $$ We'll see how the replacement turbo does and then i'll worry about higher boost. -Brian
