EA81 Auto's... suggested fluids etc...
Im planning on picking up a EA81T Wagon soon, and its got an auto. On the test drive, it shifted pretty hard, but it was solid and not sluggish at all. When i tried to accelerate with the Tranny in 1st, it felt like the transmission was slipping. If I do purchase this car, I'd like to change all the fluids... expecially the AT fluid. Can anyone recommend some good stuff for AT Trannies??? This is going to be the 2nd Auto ive ever owned, and the 1st auto i had for only 3 weeks. -Brian

EA81T to MPFI EA81 :)
John, thanks! I will definatly be needing some assistance. Im not sure if the Turbo is Oil/Water or just Oil. I think i'll use this EA81T wagon for transportation until my RX is all fixed up, then I will go to town on the EA81T and convert it. Im glad to hear the comp is all in the pistons. The Carb block is a '84 so it will be hydro as well, no problems there. -Brian

EA81T to MPFI EA81 :)
I went and test drove the donar car today. Its a '84 Turbo Wagon, with EA81T and auto. The engine sounded and felt real solid. Car ran great, so i think i'll get it and work on it before the heads crack. I noticed there's alot of stuff in the engine compartment, not sure what most of it does but hope i can streamline it alittle -Brian

The RX gallery has the newest pictures. Here are some of my favorites: -Brian

Club Forming: Northern California, Reno Nevada, SF Bay etc...
This was an idea me and Jeremy had a couple years ago (check the timestamp on the main page). The name is not set in stone, and i was thinking of changing it to something else, just dont know what. Anyone have any ideas? -Brian

I'm bummed (tire thing)
WOOT! Im glad to see those ventures back in production. I wanted to get them when i was shopping for the wagon, but had to get the coopers cause the Kumho's were backordered like crazy. 27x8.50... i like the sound of that. I know what im getting for my next wagon. -Brian

EA81T to MPFI EA81 :)
Cool. Wonder what a Carbed block and Turbo heads would make for CR? Anyone know of a way to calculate the compression? -Brian
-
EA81T to MPFI EA81 :)
Does anyone have the stock CR on a EA81T? I was thinking of trying to get it up to 10:1 to run w/out the turbo. Also, is there any shadetree way of calculating the CR on an engine, maybe with a compression tester? -Brian

I'm bummed (tire thing)
Were you able to find a set of Kumho's in 14" rimsize? I couldnt when I bought my coopers. My coopers are now worn and I was looking for a replacement set, and was sad to find the 205/75R14 STT's discontinued Im still going to call around to local cooper dealers and find out if anyone has a set collecting dust. Thats how I found my original set of STT's and the tire shop was happy to give me a deal just to get them out of his storage. -Brian

Look at these wheels and give me some feedback
Put tires on them and they'll look 100x better. Dont worry about the offset, those are the same 15" rims alot of us are running, nobody has run into any problems. -Brian

new gaskets
Its easy to pull the engine to make gasket replacement easier. If your just doing the oil pan and valve covers, they can be accomplished with a 10mm socket and a 12mm wrench. If you want to do your intake gaskets and oil pump, it will take alittle more. You dont need anything special, a basic set of metric tools should complete the job. If you plan on removing the engine, you'll need a hoist of course, but a carburated motor wont have much in the way. -Brian

TPS Questions for my RX
My boost gauge has a vac portion, and it runs at -20 at idle. I think the guage is getting wore out, cause its been acting funny, like not sitting at 0 when the engine is off. -Brian

EA81T to MPFI EA81 :)
I might have found a '84 Turbo Wagon that I'd like to transfer my lift into. I dont want to use a turbo engine for off-road use, but I would love to keep the MPFI. I have a spare carbbed EA81 to use, for the block and pistons... Im thinking I'll need to have the heads shaved alittle to help the compression. The only thing im unsure of is the ECU and everything. Does the EA81T run with a MAF like the EA82T's? Will the ECU miss the turbo and cause other problems? -Brian

Turbocharger for EA-82t engines.

Most i can do for 1000$ for Forester
A LSD will do wonders if you can locate one. Should cost around $300 at most, unless you can find a deal on one. Its too bad you have an auto, a 5spd would have been a better choice... take the remaining money you have and buy some good tires. Maybe a decent BFG All terrain or Mud Terrain tire. -Brian

TPS Questions for my RX
Thanks Ken. I didnt want to adjust it, so i left it alone today. I did check the vacuum hose that feeds my Boos guage, and its main line was very brittle at the end, and cracked when I removed it. I cut the hose clean, and was able to re-install it, but I think replacement of them all will be neccessary. I also removed the hose that leads to my PCV, in order to access the TPS wiring easier, and there is alot of buildup. Is there anything I can use to clean the crap out of the line? Hose I can replace, but I'd like to clean out the plastic sections and re-use them. Timing was something I wanted to do today, but I had to replace my mothers alternator on her '01 OBS. I'll have to wait until Sunday to do the timing. -Brian

Club Forming: Northern California, Reno Nevada, SF Bay etc...
Thinking since there are quite a few of USMB members in the area, might be a good idea to have a club to keep track of all of us. Ive started a small page which will be updated with our latest trips. http://ss.usmb.net/ Check it out, and I have a forum setup there so if you'd like to join just register for the forum. -Brian
