Roof Rack Wanted
Soobme has been MIA for months Dunno what happend to him but I believe there are still people waiting to recieve merchandise from him as well. I got my bumper & my rack from him, and ive met him and seen alot of his fabrication. He definatly knows what he is doing, and I backup his product 100%. Just wish he'd show up and say hi -Brian

Brake Swap, Solid to vented?
Correct noah. Just the caliper, rotor and pads. Everything else (knuckle, hub) is the same. The EA82 & EA81 vented are completely different. -Brian

Gutter Mounted Safari Rack ?
Yeah, here are some pix of what soobme did on my safari rack. It worked perfectly for gutter mounts: Might be hard to tell, but all he did was weld a bolt to a piece of angle iron, and then welded a chunk of square tube to the rack. You slide the bolt through, and tighten it, the angle iron then grabs and tightens to the gutter. Works great, and very very very secure. -Brian

Possible Intercooler Temperature Thermometer
I was thinking of getting a digital temp gauge from the computer store. You can find some pretty nifty ones for CPU's with little LED read outs, but that one looks alot better and more proffessional. Im definatly interested in having a Before/After intake temp guage. -Brian

very curious!!!
If a Full Size Spare (13" tire) wont fit, just remove the cross brace that is bolted to the strut towers. Its there to support the T-Type spare, but the 13" will fit snug in there w/out the brace. NGK's are the best! Dont believe any of the hype of "hi performance spark plugs". In the Subaru world, there's only NGK. Yes, you can remove the AC compressor and belt, and operate with just the Alt & Power STeering belts. A diff breather is useful when your submerse your rear diff in water. There is a standard breather valve at the top of your rear diff. You can remove it and just run some hose from it. Its not that necessary, ive run plenty of rear diffs w/out a breather tube, and sunk PLENTY of rear diffs. Ive never had any problems, not a major concern. And if your looking for pix, just click on the image of my lifted wagon There are PLENTY of pix documenting its transformation. -Brian

How easy is it to pull a EA82T?
Not sure how im going to do the exhaust right now. The exhaust you built for it, is it 2" or 1.75"? I would like a free DP, but do not mind paying for a good DP if you can make up one. If you want to make one, try to use a generic flange at the end, and include an extra flange so I can take it to the exhaust shop and have them use it to make the rest of the exhaust. I'd like to go 2.5" with my next exhaust, but that probably wont be for a while. Going to focus alot of my $$$ on these new parts (clutch, seals, ball joints, bearings, brakes). Lemme dwell on it alittle and get back to you -Brian

How easy is it to pull a EA82T?
I work at United REntals. Our yard has 2 engine hoists and 2 engine stands, which are rarely rented out Shouldnt be a problem getting a hoist. Sounds pretty straight forward. I like the idea of leaving the cross-over pipe on, the Y pipes on EA81's were always a hassle. Russ, im glad to hear the DP hasnt been on for a while. Did you mention you had a gutted DP? Im thing of overhauling the engine while its out, but that all depends on rather I have a 2nd car to use while the RX is down (which I currently do not). Im definatly going to replace the valve cover gaskets & oil pan gaskets. If I have an extra day I would probably reseal the oil pump and replace the water pump and timing belts just to have them done. -Brian

How easy is it to pull a EA82T?
The A/C has already been removed, so im not worried about that. Thanks miles for the info, I think i'll try to make this one of the only times I pull the engine, and maybe i'll do more work on it like the t-belts and everything else while the engine is out. Just need to get 2 days off to do it. -Brian

How easy is it to pull a EA82T?
Really... is it that difficult? Ive done a EA81 a couple times, and my EA82T will need a clutch and new gaskets. When ive dealt with turbo subarus at the junkyard, the turbo seems to always be a pain to get undone. Are there any tips and tricks to getting the job done? And what kind of problems should I expect to encounter? -Brian

So does it look better now...?
That's a great looking car. I would paint the coupe grill tho The thing is screamin for some snow, would top it off perfectly. -Brian

Brat & XT6 CarbonFiber Hoods
Could you do a EA82 hood with just a hole for the scoop? There are plenty of scoop models out there, and i believe the one Caleb is using is used by others as well. Would probably be easier to fabricate the hood and mount a pre-molded scoop in place. I know i'd definatly pay for one. -Brian

Rebuild or salvage my Brat?
Ive never got a dime extra for any of the Subaru's ive had. Lost over $1800 on my Legacy when i sold it. Lost over $2000 on a '83 Wagon i had (but it was impounded, different story). Lost over $800 on a brat too. I say, if you like the car and want to keep it. Find another EA81 from a Junkyard, or find a used one. You can get imported EA81's for around $400-$600 if you shop around. And as far as paying $300 to have it installed... PSSSH Do it yourself. Will take 2 guys, or 1 guy and a hoist. And 3 hours. If you dont like the car, part it or sell it. Needless to say, you'd be lucky to get your $1800 back that you paid for the car initially, even after an engine swap. -Brian

Installing a Manual Boost Controller
Dunno, but i hope someone helps you cause I wanna know too Maybe someone can go get a pic of their MBC installed on their EA82T. That would help alot. Also, what did you pay for that MBC? I was going to make one, but would preffer to buy one already made (dont feel like messing with springs etc....) -Brian

Take muffler off turbo car?
The turbo creates enough backpressure for you, you dont need exhaust to do that. IF you cut off the muffler it will make it louder, but not so loud you cant enjoy the ride. My RX has no muffler. It has about 1/2 of its original exhaust and a 90 degree bend that dumps the exhaust right in front of the rear tire. Looks good, and sounds good too. Doesnt sound great, you'd need a flowmaster or something for a great sounding exhaust. But if your affraid of harming your car... you dont have to be. -Brian

Aesthetic Opinions Please....
I like the skirt verson. But I think you should mold a new rear bumper to the rear skirt, and bring the front skirt out alittle as well. You dont want it to look like a car with no bumpers, do you? I love the blue tinted windows too -Brian

subaru offroad videos
Why are we all dependant on Eric for footage? THere are enough Lifted Subarus around here that we should have 100 DVDs and VHS tapes. I have about 4+ hours of footage from my own wagon. But just as Eric has said, the time and effort involved doesnt weigh out. Thats time I could spend wrenchin on my Sube's. -Brian

just to say hi

The New Guy
Actually, Brats never came in 2WD. All brats are 4WD. If your Brat is Turbo, then it has a 3spd pushbutton 4WD Auto in it. Chances are, the motor has cracked heads. The majority of all remaining Turbo Brats have that problem, they overheat once and the heads crack. The good news is that car is a pretty rare car and if restored will hold alittle more value than a non-turbo Brat. The bad news is finding new heads for a EA81T is extremly difficult. -Brian

Aussie Hatch... Now ej22 Converted. (with pics)
Im sure if you sent one to Mudrat, he could make more for everyone else. Glad to see the swap, and the answers about the 12mm difference also make it sound pretty straightforward. I was thinking of putting a EJ22 into my RX. I'll need to do more research, anyone know if the engine crossmembers on EA81's and EA82's are the same? -Brian
