can't find switched 12v
TheSubaruJunkie replied to keck's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The cig lighter is a switched 12V. I used that for my stereo and it worked great. -Brian -
Which brat are you going to do? I think your black one would look good with the kit on it. You'd need to do something about the front though. Put some 14" pug's on or maybe a set of 15's and you'd have a pretty slick brat. -Brian

Found this image while surfing through Jareds webpage. That was taken out front of my place when he stopped on his way through a while ago. Thought I'd share -Brian

lil' roo, awakening from the grave... small update
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Rooinater's topic in Off Road
Thats awesome Jared I bet you were stoked. I havent fired up my wagon in a while either, but it needs alittle more than just good gas. I thought you had other plans for the diffs? -Brian -
I cut my grill (well, got another from the junkyard to cut) and it wasnt hard at all. If you have a dremel, get a couple cutting disks and find a router bit. THe router bit goes right through the plastic and makes it very easy to carv your way through the grill. I used bondo to fill gaps and create the look i was after. I was later told about fiberglass and would recommend that over the bondo. Your IC install is looking very good. I would suggest getting some 2.37" mandrel tube for your throttlebody, connect that to your intercooler pipe with a silicone reducer (much cheaper than silicone bends) or goto home depot and get a rubber reducer. I bought my reducer, it goes from 2 3/8" (2.37") to 1 7/8", and it was about $3. -Brian

Intercooling for Dummies. (I did it)
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Dan, thanks for those links. I found 2.38" U bend pipe for $20 from RoadRace, but their shipping policy and ordering process looks to be a huge pain. No idea how soon I'd get it, or how much it'd cost to have it shipped. I'll send them an email or something. I'd like to get a couple U bends and just cut em in half to create my 90 degree bends. I definatly need to replace this rubber stuff i got -Brian -

Im finally getting 2 days off now Russ, i need to make a trip down to San Jose I priced Silicone hose, and for 90 degree bends they're $63 a piece Im looking for a cheaper solution than Silicone (although, it looks so pretty). There's a muffler shop behind my work, im going to talk to him tomorrow and see if he can just bend up some 2.37" pipe. I have plumbed my BPV already. Did it today after work. A day of driving without it was giving me the willies... i kept expecting something to explode (like the cheap hose I got for the install). So far its all working out great tho, the car feels like a whole new car. I cant wait to install my scoop. -Brian -

I just took it on its maiden voyage. It seems like it accelerates alot better. I took it to 5.5k without any hesitation at all. One trip around the block, and then i lifted the hood. The IC was nice and hot. So i know its doing its thing I let the car idle, and examined the hoses. I also revved the engine while holding one of the rubber elbow's. Yeh, this hose isnt going to do too good for long term. It will have to do for now, but I can feel the hose bulge... and i could even see it. Im kinda affraid to increase boost in fear of bursting a hose. We'll see... I will have to start shopping for some real pipe now. Without the Bypass valve, i hear a ton of fluttering in my intake. Like its comming from the air filter but im sure its the turbo'd air not being able to escape. -Brian -

I hope this hose I used works out. Its not as stiff as I'd like it to be, but i thought to myself "it only has to hold up to 11psi max" at the store, so I bought it. I cant seem to get the IC any closer to the throttlebody right now, not unless I find a better pipe from the Turbo to IC. The setup I have right now, is as compact as I can get it... and thats whats keeping the IC so far back. Right now i just plumbed for my BPV and whatever hose came off the plentum. Dr.Krazy... do you have any closeup pix of your BPV installed? I Plan on installing it where yours is, but havent come up with a way to connect it to that part of my intake. -Brian -

Thanks guys. It will be sitting like this for a while until I get some better pipe made up. I do have a boost gauge, and After I run the IC for a week or so, i will make a MBC to increase pressure. Patrick, i used to frequent LegacyCentral, but I cant keep up with it anylonger. Ive dumped all the other boards and primarily focus on the USMB. I just made brackets for everything, and its snug as a slug in a rug... and the I/C aint going anywhere. Tiny... yes, but better than nothing -Brian -

New PiX: I have to plumb a few things, and create brackets to mount it... then it will be complete. -Brian -

Okay, here's what i got... (2) 90 degree elbows. Both are rubber, and have a 2 3/8" Inner Diameter, with a 2" bend. I got some 2 3/8" PVC pipe, and a 2 3/8" to 1 7/8" reducer (for the turbo). So far, everything attatches to the Intercooler without a problem. I just hope things hook to the car as easily. Pictures: Soon i'll have pix of it inside the car. -Brian -

Dedicated Turbo Exhaust?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Skip. My RX needs one of dem too. Let us know if your in business to sell one. I may need mine welded for a VF11. As far as running a seperate muffler, i dont see how it would be any more benefitial than something like Skip has there. Maybe increase the pipe to 2.75 or 3" where the two meet. If you were going to run 1.75" from the wastegate, then I would look for a small muffler from a lawnmower or maybe contact FHI and get a muffler from their Robin Generators. -Brian -
18.9 in the RX right now -Brian
