Here in the sierra's the jeepers wheel in the snow by lowering their tire pressure to just above 10psi. A guy I know can goto 2psi with his bead locks. On snow that is what you need, and those guys have perfected the art. Mud is a totally different story. Yes, clearance will be your best bet for mud, and grippy nasty tires too. -Brian

Installing Pushbar on my 84 Brat
TheSubaruJunkie replied to BattleAxeT6's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, it depends on which one you have. There's a pushbar that mounts to your front tow hooks, and theres another pushbar that is longer and mounts to the engine crossmember. The longer style pushbar is not a direct bolt on if your subaru has plastic bumpers. I Had a write up with step by step instructions but its long gone by now. -Brian -

EA 81 Hub Replacement Questions
TheSubaruJunkie replied to NV Zeno's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
OH!! Somepeople call the steering knuckle a hub, thats why i thought... The hub that holds your lugs, yeh thats simple. Goto the junkyard and pull a couple, you want to make sure there is no slop in the ones you pull, and that they seat properly. Have you taken your hub apart to make sure theres nothing caught up in there? Maybe some mud from WCSS I believe there are 4 bolts that hold the hub to the rotor, and they are all 12mm. You will need to remove the 36mm castle nut as well. -Brian -
I read up on CB's and how they work, and how to tune them to your antenna. But alot of it I couldnt understand, and when I got my CB it seemed to work perfectly on the trail I got my CB for $30 from wal-mart and spent about $60 for the whip and base with the cable. Here it is installed: -Brian

EA 81 Hub Replacement Questions
TheSubaruJunkie replied to NV Zeno's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Dave, used knuckles should do the trick. There's nothing special required other than a 36mm socket for the CV Castle nut, and a Prybar or pickle fork for the ball joints. I would recommend replacing the bearings and ball joints with new ones and do both sides. It wont be difficult, but it will be messy -Brian -
Driving impressions RX vs. Legacy SS
TheSubaruJunkie replied to All_talk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I sold my SS to buy my RX. I love my RX 1000x more than i ever did my SS. My SS wasnt without problems, but the RX is alot lighter and more agile. I do not get as much understeer as I did in the SS but of course, my RX has better tires and alot less body wieght. The SS would smoke the RX anyday of the week however, the EA82T is nothing compared to a turbocharged EJ22. If you have a family to tote around, get a SS. If you want to have some fun in a 20yr old car... get a RX -Brian -
Yup, you can find 14" and 15" alloys in 4x140 from Peugeot only. They also have 14" and 15" steels. -Brian
