Great Story
In california we dont get rednecks in trucks. We have ricers. None of the sube's I have now will hold up to a ricer thats propperly equipped... but in most cases you see honda's that are just lowered and are loud. Those are fun to beat in a Brat. And dont be affraid to shift at 4000 or 4200 rpm. WHat year is your car? -Brian

My '84 Wagons new Interior
the main wire comming through the firewall is actually black. Its a 12 gauge solid black wire. From there, i have the power from the Stereo and the CB on it. The power from the amp is turned on by the stereo's power antenna out. I have the 2 lights wired, but need to wire my swithch. This is the switch im going to use: I was told with a switch like this, a relay isnt needed. But I do want to attach the lights to a fuse. Just dont know what kind of fuse to use. Any ideas? -Brian

Auto trannys suck because,,,
Well, chances are it was the engine in that GL10. EA82T right? Of course your going to have more power. And the later model GL10's with Turbo come with 4spd AT's which are actually not bad at all. -Brian

Tranny options for an EA81 T
John, i think i have to rebuild your account. I will PM you shortly. Ive driven IN a EA81T with a FT4WD RX tranny and LSD behind it. The thing was a rocket. Didnt get past 100mph cause we were doing some urban rally'n. But damn that thing got UP and WENT! The driver liked to take the revs past 6000 alot. Probably why the heads cracked hehe -Brian

Auto trannys suck because,,,
Not sure where you heard that, but the AT is NOT better in any way, shape or form than the MT's. As a matter of fact, if there's one thing FHI ever made a mistake on, it was the way they made their Auto's. Subaru's auto's (for EA82 at least) are very very sluggish, slow and probably rob about 40% of the power from the engine. Ive heard good things about EA81 AT's and EJ AT's, but the EA82 i had with the 3spd was a SLUG! -Brian

Tranny options for an EA81 T
Your right about the different 4speeds, but i think the years are different. My '84 GL Wagon has the higher range tranny with the revs at 4500rpm at 80mph and my '86 Brat rev's at 4000rpm. My old '83's tranny rev'd at 4000rpm at 80mph as well. So im not sure if its year dependant rather than the area the cars were sold in. Flatland's probably got the higher gear ratio while mountainous ranges got the lower ratio. -Brian

Tranny options for an EA81 T
From what ive heard, the overall gear ratio is the same with the 4spd and 5spd, just with the 5spd you have closer gearing. So i doubt your top speed will suffor. Although, i do know, my car runs in 4th gear at 80mph at 4,200rpm. My buddies EA82 runs at 80mph in 5th gear at aprox 3,000-3,500rpm. -Brian

Auto trannys suck because,,,
Not to mention they're slow, they're sluggish, they're slow and oh yeah... ...they're slow! -Brian
-
Tranny options for an EA81 T
Being a turbo, you'll want your rev's to be in the higher range. the 5spd will give you a closer shift range and should keep the power where you want it. I know with my 4spd, after shifting i often find myself below 2500rpm which would probably make your EA81T choke. With the 5spd, your revs should be alot higher out of the shift. -Brian

Tranny options for an EA81 T
Should bolt right up as if it were a standard EA81. The swap should be the same. -Brian

84 Turbo Wagon...What Should My Little Buddy Idle At?
Warm idle should be between 800-1000 rpm. Cold should be between 1.5-2k. Not sure where to adjust on the EA81T, but its not hard to increase the idle. -Brian
