Yeah. The jeepin buddies of mine that I go out with air down no matter where they are going. I've only had to air down once and that was for snow. We call it Sierra Cement. I had my subie down to 12psi at each tire. Any lower and i was affraid I was going to pop a bead. I noticed with the tires aired down, my engine was almost gutless. But with the snow, you just need to maintain a steady speed and make sure you have no wheelspin. One of my jeepin buddies has beedlocks, and he can air down to 8psi easily. That with all his crawling gadgetry... he can go almost anywhere. -Brian

what models can donate rear disk for ea81 4x4?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Would have been one of the only ones to come from the factory with it. Ive never seen it listed as an option for any Subaru prior to EA82T's. And, the reason I said Almost every GL10, is becuase... almost all of them will, except slight occasions where the SPFI's arent Turbo'd, hence no rear Disc's -Brian -
Is my Voltage Regulator broke?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If I keep the voltage between 12 and 16 volts will it still harm my electronic stuff? Ive parked the car, and will replace the alt and some wiring later in the week. I am going to wire a new stereo and CB. Anyone have any wiring tips to help protect my car from exploding I also have two 150watt off-road lights i need to wire too. -Brian -

There are no EA81's that came factory with Rear Disc's. In order to get disc's, you need to look at ANY turbocharged EA82 Subaru. They will all have rear disc's. If your car is 2WD, you need to get parts from a Turbo 2WD Subaru. If its 4WD, you need parts from a Turbo 4WD Subaru. Almost every EA82 GL10 will have rear disc's. Along with every RX. -Brian -

Is my Voltage Regulator broke?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok. Good idea Dave, dont let me forget. -Brian -
Today on the way to work, i noticed my voltmeter was pegged at the red. So I turned on my headlights, put the AC on full and decreased my RPM alittle. It was able to drop the Voltage down to 15 or 16. At a red light, the voltmeter will hold steady at 14, but if I raise the RPM's, it will peg the voltmeter. I suspect my VR is bad. And if it is, how much longer until the alternator goes out? Will a bad VR jepordise my battery? -Brian

Is it time for a radiator, 83 gl wagon
TheSubaruJunkie replied to tompalushock's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yup... sounds like it needs a radiator. Might wanna change the thermostat 1st to see. If you are strapped for cash, you can pull the radiator out of the car and give it a good cleaning. Spray the fins real good and make sure there is no mud or dirt trapped in there. Then backflush the rad a few times, then flush it and repeat. I bought a radiator for my '86 Brat from Kragen Auto Parts for $150. I heard you can find them online for $100 or $120... but i didnt want to wait for delivery. Just give them the year and model of your car. Tell them if its manual or automatic as well. -Brian -
round headlights
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Jack in Norfolk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
STD means Standard. It was between a GL and a DL, or below a DL. They were available in Hatch's and i believe Wagons even came in STD. But they didnt have much of anything when it came to options. Even the headlights weren't an option haha -Brian -

I'll be in your neck of the woods by Thursday Afternoon. If you need to bust out some last minute repairs, you'll have an extra hand on Thursday. I did some work to my rig as well. Welded a rear diff, got some welding done to my brushguard, did some re-wiring and also got a roof rack (need to fabricate and install it still). Im still amped. I have the vacation time requested, still have to make sure its confirmed. -Brian -
Need an idea on pricing for a 78 Brat
TheSubaruJunkie replied to benebob's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Does he know what its worth. Since its a work truck, and was used as one primarily, chances are he thinks of it as "just another car". Offer him something low... depending on condition (hard to gauge without being there) but off the top of my head, i would say in the $500 ballpark. Just as a 1st offer. I wouldnt go any higher than $1200 at the most though. -Brian -
Are you in Southern, central or Northern California. Good luck finding a brat. Took me a good year and a half to find my brat. Im in sacramento. and yeah, you wont find a 5speed Brat unless somebody put a 5speed in place of the stock 4 speed. -Brian
-
I would go get a 2" in and 2.5" out muffler to slap on there to keep it quiet. -Brian

Turbos Are Gooood!!!
TheSubaruJunkie replied to soobme's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Can you make more of those downpipes? My roomies turbo could use one. -Brian -
I never knocked the hatch. I would love to have a hatch. Hell... i cant turn down any subaru. Even a Justy. But you line up 3 subaru's side by side. Racing 360, WRX Sti, lifted hatch... I'd pick the racing 360 ANY DAY. Even if it did make stock power of 25hp. I know on Gran Turismo 2 i can buy a 25hp 360 and make 125hp with a stage 1 turbo kit -Brian
-
no SHawn. This is a mint racing 360. If I read that page right, it has 1 mile on it. Was built for racing, but was never raced. Sure, WRX's are nice and all... but this is a one of a kind Racing 360. Not even a STi would make me turn my head. Even if I needed a heart transplant, and saved $20,000 for it... i would blow it all on that 360. -Brian
