TheSubaruJunkie replied to a topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Adam... I requested the time off today. Good news is, that weekend has not been blocked yet, and its still available. Bad news is, i dont get vacation time until Sept 9th, so I cannot reserve it until then. -Brian -
Suprised the heads are not cracked??? Ok, is it a turbo? Its a manual? if it is a turbo, its not a EA81T. -Brian

Which one looks better?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Kevin, the hood is not 100%. Dave, when was the last time you ever saw me keep anything "stock"?? HAHAH Corky. It will be a functional scoop. This is the scoop i am thinking about using after my CIS conversion. Since the CIS intake will be mounted where the spare tire is, i would preffer not to suck in hot engine air. I want to block off most of the rear of the engine bay, mount the CIS in there, run PVC to an external EFI Air Filter Box, and have it snug against the hood... where the scoop will be located. I have done measurements, and drawn it all out on graph paper. Just getting user opinions. I like the bottom one better (the shorter scoop). Something just doesnt look right with the elongated one. And to answer everybody's question, yes... the bottom one has been photoshop'd. Right now, the scoop is the long picture... i was thinking of cutting it down alittle to make it look better. Thanks all -Brian -
One of these is a PhotoShop'd image. I'll let you guys guess which one. But the scoop is real, and i was thinking of mounting it on my brat. Which one of these looks better? -Brian

AAAAAAAAARGGHHH intake bolt BROKE OFF
TheSubaruJunkie replied to baccaruda66's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well aluminum shavings cannot be good for your engine. Might wanna get one of those cool vacuum atatchments for keyboards, and suck as much of that as you can. -Brian -
In alaska when i was real young. My babysitter drove a Subaru Wagon. I believe it was a '84 because i remember the headlights always looked like delorian lights. Anyhow, i vaugly remember some sort of level and pitch meter. Have never seen a Subaru since that had one. And that was including 4 years of owning and driving them in Alaska. Oh, and ive never seen or heard of a Brat GL10. There are Turbo Brat's that came almost fully loaded. But they were badged as GL's. -Brian

Anyone know how the SUBARUBICON Boys are doing?
TheSubaruJunkie replied to harpua's topic in Off Road
John called me at 3:45pm looking for Adam's phone number. When I asked, he said he was still in Eugene, planning on leaving at 4:15pm estimated. -Brian -

The man who posted that on the Pirate Board happens to be a friend of mine. I asked him what the subaru's looked like and he said "some wagon and brat looking thing" Might be Eric's hatch and Kens Brat. I heard from John, Mudrat, today who was supposed to meet up with them from what i heard (last plans i heard about) but John is still in oregon. Ken and Eric most likely will not contact me. I most likely wont see any of them on this trip. Not sure, guess we wait until they return to get the story. There is a huge cleanup run scheduled for this weekend. The pirates of the Rubicon are planning a weekend event, if Ken and Eric made it there last night and camped out there... you will hear it on the pirate board very soon. Havent heard a thing yet, so i doubt they are there. -Brian -
AAAAAAAAARGGHHH intake bolt BROKE OFF
TheSubaruJunkie replied to baccaruda66's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That was an idea i had but i didnt want to advise you to pry on aluminum... just beat it with a hammer. -Brian -
Mike W sent these to me. Kinda small, but its the intake from a EA82 SPFI. He fabbed a adapter for a 32/36 Weber carb, and set it up on a EA81. http://www.usmb.net/gallery/albun68 -Brian

AAAAAAAAARGGHHH intake bolt BROKE OFF
TheSubaruJunkie replied to baccaruda66's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you dont need that intake, cut it in half Like i said, that bolt shouldnt be attatched to the intake like that. its probably rusted in place.... you could probably break it loose somehow. Pry that bad boy off the head (the intake, not the bolt). If you can get the intake to come part way off, unscrew it alittle maybe so there is some space between the head and the intake. Smack the intake with a hammer and it might break that bolt loose from the intake and let it slide off. -Brian -
Your the 1st on my list Noah. (as far as help) just need to gather thoughts and idea's. I know the air travels up... i was thinking of cutting a hole in the bottom of the spare tire holder, running a 90 degree angle of PVC pipe, maybe 3" in diamteter to a filter box that will fit snug against the hood. Need to get the engine 1st tho... so lets worry about that. I understand the CIS injectors fit into CV nuts, which is good. Not sure if I would use actual CV bolt... maybe a real bolt of the same thread pitch. I'm not sure if I want to jerry-rig it like that tho. Sounds like a good idea, but if I have to do it that way, might as well pay a proffesional to alumi-weld the bolts to the heads themself. Noah. I no longer use ICQ, too much of a hassle. Do you use any other chat software? -Brian

AAAAAAAAARGGHHH intake bolt BROKE OFF
TheSubaruJunkie replied to baccaruda66's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Woops... just re-read something: Does that mean when you rotate the inatake manifold, the bolt is actually rotating with it? If that is the case, you might be able to rotate the intake until the bolt is removed from the head all together. There should be no threads threaded into the intake manifold, so if you get the intake off and the bolt is stuck to the intake, you could tap it out with a hammer. -Brian -
AAAAAAAAARGGHHH intake bolt BROKE OFF
TheSubaruJunkie replied to baccaruda66's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well... if the head snapped off the bolt, that means theres probably a good 2" of bolt exposed from the head. Try to remove the intake, might need to file the end of the bolt alittle to get the intake to slide off... but shouldnt be too difficult. I would either: Try to extract the bolt by using some vice grips on the exposed part of the broken bolt. Or maybe drill a hole through the bolt, through the side of the bolt... try to find a punch or something that will fit through that hole and use that to turn the bolt out. Might want to heat up the head with a torch. That should make the head expand and make it easier to retrieve the bolt. Since you have a fair amount of bolt exposed, it shouldn't be hard at all, and if your careful you should be able to save the head, intake and replace that broken bolt. Also.... make sure you put some rags or something into the intake on the head so metal shavings dont get into your engine. -Brian -

Not a problem, let us know how it works out. Maybe you should do a before and after. Try to find a way to get a reliable tempterature reading other than 3 seconds by finger, and then do it after you repack. Could be valuable information. I've never even worried about my bearing temps. -Brian
