oil pressage gauge install Q
TheSubaruJunkie replied to JWX's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had problems when i installed mine on my '83 GL. The tube was long enough, i ran it under the engine, then up to the firewall and came through with some heater pipes or AC lines or something. The problem I had, was running the line. It kept melting from the exhaust, and if that line melts, you develop a very bad oil leak. The 1984 GL I bought already had it ran and installed, and they did a real good job. But it was done 4 or 5 years ago, and the line was hard and crusty. I went to remove my stereo one day, and had to remove the oil gauge. The line snapped and i couldnt get anything to reconnect it. Try to get one with a long tube. The one i got was something like 6' long or 5', but it wasnt long enough. -Brian -
Is the trip next weekend!?!?!?!? HOLY FAJOLY!!! -Brian

TheSubaruJunkie replied to Skip's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, i cant get ahold of Cameron. But i dont think he'd mind if we at least linked to that on the USRM. Mick also has some good information regarding Weber installation. Pix are already on the USRM. -Brian -

Im gonna have to wait a week to get my CB. Hope to have it wired before the trip. If not, i'll have it in a box and can wire it when I get there. Tony, do you have any tips for tuning an antenna for a CB? I have a 42" whip in the garage, and want to mount it to the center of my wagon. Heard thats the best place. -Brian -
Can I do this????
TheSubaruJunkie replied to vodoobrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I stand corrected Well said Trogdor. If your fixing it to sell it, try to find a EA82 with an auto that is newer. Say 87 or something. And find one thats in the yard from a wreck. -Brian -
Can I do this????
TheSubaruJunkie replied to vodoobrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes you can. But you need to make sure the 5speed tranny is from another Turbo EA82. You will need to replace the peddle's cause you have to install a clutch pedle and cable. -Brian -

TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, all the wiring im going to run will be completly indipendant of the existing wiring. All on a 12gauge hot lead. My father, being an electrician, has those terminal strips. I dont know much about how electricity operates, like amps... volts etc, so I wasnt sure if I should use individual fuses for each component, or connect a fusible link or something to the main lead. -Brian -
Before: After: Anyone got any other cool before and after shots of their sube? -Brian

I need to replace the alternator on my Wagon. While im at it, i will be wiring a Stereo, CB and probably 2 or 3 set's of lights. All the wiring will be new complete wiring for the stereo and power and everything. Can anyone give me any advice to help save my car from starting on fire, or jepordising my electrical system. -Brian

Badges Vintage, (question)
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Adam N.D.J.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That was my 1st car. And my 1st Subaru. I put that car through hell and back. Here is a picture of it the day after i bought it: It was near perfect except for some surface rust, but ran like a champ. Either had 96,000 or 196,000 on it, single range 4wd. had to sell it after i lost my license. -Brian -
Thats a sweet cooler. -Brian

EA71 4spd S/R -5spd S/R ??
TheSubaruJunkie replied to RedLance's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Subaru's do not have an external transfer case. All the 4WD components are built in with the 4WD Transmission. There is almost no way to convert a 2WD to a 4WD. Or convert a 4WD 4spd to a 4WD 5spd. -Brian -
front brake arguments
TheSubaruJunkie replied to oddcomp's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I took a standard 15/16 socket and cut away 2 sides of it, leaving 2 prongs exposed that fit the caliper perfectly. Loosen the bleeder valve as well, and it will make it easier to reset the caliper. -Brian -

Hey... lookit that! My '79 DID have that badge: The pic looks like crap, but you can kinda see the Subaru badge on the corner of the hood. -Brian -

I have a CB, but no mic for it. its a real old one, and i should have it replaced before the trip. I need to install a stereo too, and wire my car. So i will probably spend a good 1/2 day totally re-wiring a stereo, lights and CB. -Brian -
better breathing turbo with catless downpipe
TheSubaruJunkie replied to Skip's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Who's willing to make more of these? I might be in need of a new cross over pipe and down pipe very soon. -Brian -

Gen1 Wagon and Brat. Pre 1978. That is the Subaru Badge you will find on the corner of the hood. My 1979 Wagon did not have it but i have seen plenty of '78s with them. I even have one ive restored (repainted the white and black, chrome is still good) and i turned it into a magnet. -Brian -
rear disc conversion ... interchange alert
TheSubaruJunkie replied to baccaruda's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
e Brake Components???? How very interesting. I wonder if we could use a legacy rear backing plate and caliper, and rig some sort of rear eBrake setup for our EA81 and EA82's. -Brian -

Should I get another sube??
TheSubaruJunkie replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I cant bear to tear the Wagon apart. And I couldnt take the brat off-road even if it were lifted, its in too good of a condition. We're all still on for Wednesday. I got a parts list too, and a holiday paycheck to spend. -Brian -

TheSubaruJunkie replied to baccaruda's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
EA82 only has 2 types of Rear Disc's... 2WD and 4WD. Ive never seen rear disc's on a non-turbo Subaru, but they were an option as far as i know. -Brian
