  1. Yeah, I know what U mean, Subawoohoo. I need the shift linkage boot that seals the undercarige from the interior.....it don't exist anymore. If U get that looney mexican who asks the same question 4 tmes at the dealer parts counter, look out! He said that the t-stats are differant between 86 and 87! DUH! They're the same blasted part! For crying out loud! Gimme Gentry Ford and Subaru in Ontario, OR. He knew Subarus like the back of his hand.
  2. Lookin' good! As 4 the carb, drop a Weber in! They rock!
  3. Personally, I would not recommend it. Towing a viehicle that weighs the same as the tow rig, but the tow rig was not designed to tow is asking for trouble. If it was like, 10 or 15 miles.....maybe, if that was ur last resort. But 200 is out of the question. I recommend 1) try and C if U can get it running enough to drive it back on it's own power. OR 2:) Find a friend with a minimum of a 1/2 ton truck and a trailer. It's safer. For me, spend a little more and get home safely instead of risking an accident or breakdown in the middle of nowere. Subies were not designed to tow. Maybe a utility trailer to get the new sofa home, but not another viehicle.
  4. OK. I got the stub axels off. Took a little persuation, but I got'em. Guess the Stanley adaptor is stronger than the Durabuilt adaptor, yes? LSD is out of the diff and so is the open diff. Strange thing was the open diff was easier to take apart than the LSD. Interisting......Next step: how do I get those bolts off so I can swap ring gears? Guess I'll hafta pull out the impact gun and pick up some metric impact sockets. Seeing how the gun only came with a few SAE sockets.:-\ Heading 4 bed now and will tackle the next part tomorrow after work.
  5. eeeeeeee.........Guess I'll keep trying with the gentle yet firm process. [hijack] cool [/hijack] Boy, by the time I'm done with the LSD project, the stickers, and me new engine from CCR I'll have a completely different Suby! Wooo HOO!!! ok, back to the workbench.........
  6. Could B a loose wheel. Had that one happen 2 me once; thump speed was porportional to veihicle speed. If that's knot it, could also B a U-joint on the drive shaft has gone south. Same symtoms. Is URs 4WD?
  7. Now, THAT'S some water! Good times! Amen Bro!
  8. Yup, dat's what I'm following. Just got back from Tucson. Picked up the socket and also wondered over to the dealership and ordered 4 more t-stats. Boy, those new Legacys are hot! Me WANT!!! Anyways....tried to turn that torx bolt and I snapped the 3/8" to 1/4" adaptor! Guess that 15" breaker bar added too much torque for that little adaptor. Now what? Also, are those bolts LH threaded? If not, they are STUCK in there good.:-\ [hijack] BTW Mick, did U get me PM a while ago abouts me sticker order? [/hijack]
  9. Bummer hafta goto Tucson. Figures. Oh Twell. R there any other odd tools I might need?
  10. Thanks! Will C if any of the autoparts stores have such a thing.
  11. Ok, I was reading the FAQ on how to pull the stub axels out and it said I needed a no. 10 torx socket. Went to Home Depot, Sears, and AutoZone and nobody has such a thing! Will try Pep Boys, and Napa tomarrow. Any other places I could try? Maybe I'll just hafta track down a Snap-On tools truck and pick up one there, yes? This project is quite intristing. Never had a diff apart B4. Cool stuff!
  12. So, what's the weight differance? His car vs an STi. If he's light enough then even with less HP, he still has a chance. Corners or a straight line. It's like a Pinto out running big block eights on the straights and in the corners.......see ya!
  13. That's even better! Man, I'm gettin everything mixed up lately. :-\
  14. I say, DO IT!! Beatin' a WRX would be awesome!
  15. Lift is a possibility, but for now, I am sticking with my 13"ers. Besides, pullin' and puttin' a cv shaft just for 20 or 30 minutes of off roading is too much work for me. I've done quite well with the open diff so far, and the LSD will deffinitly help. It's not a locker or welded diff, but for my daily driver, it gives me the best of both worlds. However, when I get stuck with one front tire in the air and the rear bumper holdin' the rear, it's inevible I will need a tug. open, lsd,or welded rear wont help. If I do make this my off roader, it will go on a frame with solid axels. The unibody and CVs are just not designed for that kind of abuse.
  16. Ok, that helps. Guess I'll just hafta find out. Just finished pulling out the open diff out of the car. Operation: LSD hehehehe
  17. Just got my LSD rear diff from the sucker king (john) and I need some info on how to do the conversion. I did a search on lsd conversion and just got people that have done it. Has anybody done a writeup on this conversion? They say it's a just a bolt up with a little grinding. Where do I need to grind? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  18. Awesome! How come the 4x4s I see are so stuck that a full size is needed to yank him out? Saw a chevy that was sitting on both bumpers. The axels didn't have much weight on em at all. He was quite stuck. Or, it's me who's stuck in the sand and has to get pulled out by an F350 who's spining all fours and I'm going noware? That time, I wasn't even sittin on the frame, I just couldn't get the tires moving; no lowend torque and VERY soft sand.
  19. Tranny fluid in the speedo? Caused by a blown seal at the speedo cable and tranny connection.
  20. She runs just under the 45 mark at 3k rpms when up to temp and just above the 0 line when idling. hummm.....back a few years ago, when I was young and stpid, I lost the oil pump and ran without oil pressure for about 5 miles. Wonder if that did it in? Stange thing is the ditsy gear looks fine. No worn spots or anything. Boy, what a bummer. And I just put some aluminum wheels on too.
  21. ok. Can I do that without taking the engine out? Also, could those metal shavings have gotten into he rest of the engine?
  22. worse than that. The gear on the camshaft that drives the ditsy is worn. Ditsy is fine; no play at all. The mech advance seems a little loose, but it feels ok. However, when I pulled the ditsy out, I found metal shavings on the ditsy shaft and there is a small pile on the bottom of the cam case. The gear on the camshaft is shot. Badly worn down. That cam side has always made a funny noise ever since I've had the car; about five years. Guess that's Y, eh? So, if that's so, I guess the best thing is to pull the engine out and completely tear it apart and clean the the metal shavings out, yes? Last oil change showed no metal shavings (about two months ago).
  23. and won't restart. Was heading home when it died, thankfully right next to a circle k. Tried to resart, but it keeps backfiring. Poped the t-belt covers off and the cams are still in sync with the crank. However, the ditsy is off by a clyinder! At TDC of the compression stroke of cyl 1, the dtsy is pointing at cyl 3! What gives? Also, tach was jumpy and my low rpm torque was not there about a day before this mess happend. I am going to replace the ditsy and see if that fixes it, since everything seems to be pointing in that direction.
  24. Me picked up some new rims for me Suby 2 days ago. Finally got a chance to put them on. Check it out:http://usmb.net/gallery/Subynut/CAM_0218 Put me back $100 for 5. 5th one is a little different, but it gives me a spare rim that fits both the front and the back. My previous spare rim was from a EA81 and it didn't fit the front.:-\ And guess what tires usually went flat?
