  1. I run Chevron only in Suby. 87 I think. I get nuttin but pinging at low RPMs with any other brands down here in SE Arizona. That's from regular to premium. Don't matter. My parents' 97 Outback seems happier on Chevron also. Well, I feel it. Dad don't. My boss gets 2-3 mpg better with chevron than with the others also. He's got a 01 honda accorn, 90somthin Cherekee, and a late 80's nissan pick up. Just for a different car comparison.
  2. Would a corser thread pitch be less likely to fail? Just wondering cause my brother has a stripped stud on his Suby.
  3. Weber would be my first upgrade. Then I would put a reground cam (the torque cam) in from Delta Camshaft. Dat's what I do.
  4. Oooooooo........what a pretty brat! However, I have knot seene it. :-\
  5. My Suby (carb block, SPFI pistons, decked heads) runs between 145-150ish. My sisters' Subys (bone stock, carbed, around 150k miles) run around 120-130 psi.
  6. Can I have one of each? Or how bout test drive each one and pick the best one for off roading?
  7. Ahhhh but solid axels are GOOD! Good looking wagon! I'll take one of those!
  8. Worst? More like the most emmaressing one. Was on my lunch hour and playing in my favorite off road place. Buzzon down the dirt roads, climbing into and out of the wash having a grand ol' time! Getting time to head back, I decided just one more romp. As I turned into the wash, I mis-calculated my appoach and ended up with the nose in a gully and the rear bumper on the ground. Armed with a come-along and a pice of wood for a shovel, I proceded to try and un-stuck mysef. Was working great...till the come-along broke. Ended up walking to the closest phone and asking my boss to pull me out. They still pick on me for that one.
  9. Ok, I was talking to one of my co-workers and he sugested just going one size up and just tap the aluminium itself and forget the heli-coil. Would that work? For how long?

  11. Take it to Death Valley in the middle of summer for a few days. That'll burn out any mold!
  12. How 'bout: Barry Manilow Celine Dion Michael W. Smith Manheim Steamroller and a little 101 Strings
  13. Yup, loose t-belt BUT, I have a stripped bolt(more like the heli-coil stripped out) that holds one of the tensioners in place (Drivers side). When I originally loosend the tensioner bolts they were very difficult to crack loose. When I went to retighten them after replacing the belts, one of the bolts wouln't tighten up properly. Thought that was rather strange, guess my fear was right. So, NOW what? It appears I cannot run with just one of the bolts cause I can move it by hand with the remainder bolt tightend as much as I dare.
  14. Ok, I'll check those out. Hummmmm loose t-belt..........
  15. Hey Guys, I gotta question. Me Suby has this rattle kind of sound. Kinda hard to explain. It appears to be comming from the drivers side. It dissapears on acceleration and shows up on decelleration and at idle. It's not lifter tick, that's on the other side where I'm trying to figure out which lifter is being stubborn. I did the ol' breaker bar to the ear trick and found that it's the noisiest in the area of the ditsy. The cams are 180 apart, and lined up with the marks on the flywheel. I checked the timing and it's bouncing around 10 deg btdc. Vac guage is solid at 16" at 800 RPM. Here's an MP3 of me Suby running. There'a lifter tick, an exhaust leak and a little breeze amongst the rest of the sound of the engine. Don't know if you can hear it or not. Any ideas? Wave4.zip
  16. Yeah, I put these on: The wheel and tire together weigh less than the original white spoke steelie rims alone! Suby feels "light" on her wheels now. I didn't think you could feel less unsprung weight!
  17. Jack up the rear, slide underneath, and wiggle the drive shaft at all the U-joints. Check for play. To check wheel berrings, grab the wheel from the top and bottom and try to rock the wheel. If it does, check your axel nut, if that's ok, then it's prolly a wheel bearing. Dat make sense?
  18. Lug nuts tight? Dat can also cause that sound.
  19. Could also check for a bad spark plug wire. I lost one and was just BARELY able to hold 55 mph in 4th gear and on flat terrain.
  20. COOL! Another Suby owner in Arizona! WOO HOO!!! Anyways, welcome! Keep your eyes in the marketplace for a Factory Service Manual, they show up every once and a while. They have good wriring diagrams from what I've read.
  21. Yup, and you'll need a good size breaker bar to crack it loose if it hasn't been done before. Mine was on there TIGHT, used a 18" breaker bar and a lotta pullin. Also, I would recommend putting teflon tape on the threads of the plug. Dat way it don't leak.
  22. Hey, it's called thinking outside the box!
  23. When I had my air horns on my roof, I just ran the hose down the drivers side A pillar inside the rain gutter and behind the fender. Then I just drilled a hole into the engine compartment and mounted the air compressor right next to the wiper motor. I ended up relocated the horns under the hood cause they kept getting clogged with bugs. Darn mesquitos. Don't see why U couln't do the same thing with wiring aux lights up there.
  24. Boy, do I know what THAT means. Was driving my bro's suby through our "dirt road course" and came too fast into the corner and hit an embankment. Oops.
