  1. So the thread striped, not the splines? When I done mine I expected the splines to strip before the thread. I used old studs from another hub, did you use new ones? Maybe they aren't the proper high tensile?
  2. I just done this... It was easy, needs a bit more welding at the moment though... I know there is someone here in Aus that makes the adapters, but he charges like $500+... Personally I was thinking about doing a hub+brake swap with a newer subie, but then I wouldn't be able to use my 6 stud mag's! :-\ Sorry, I don't have any links for you
  3. Stock rims have about 58mm offset I am pretty sure... I recommend getting some rims with an offset that just doesn't stick out the fender, that seems to be pretty good at not rubbing. I'll have to messure my mag's and offroading wheels offset to tell you what that is.

Here in South Australia it is pretty hard to get anything over 2" legal (and if you had more it would look kinda obvious) So we have 2" lift on both. The Brat has Kumho Venture 27" M/T's with about one third wear. And the wagon had new 26" re-treads in a "winter tread" pattern. They seemed pretty good, but nothing like the kumhos. Also, both have open diffs alround
  5. 4 to 5 hole adapters for what?
  6. Does the roof lining come out attacted to another thing, so I could get an ok one from another car and put it in?
  7. ...! What? Hideous?? It just looks like it is ready to offroad! All you need is a tube bumper, a lift, some bigger tires, and some spotties! It would look awesome then. hehe... On the subject of sand.. take it down the beach on a day you have plenty of time on... Then get it bogged. Easiest way to find out how much is too much.
  8. I would love a set of these rocker covers, but they cost like $200 a set or something http://www.sub4.co.nz/rocker.htm Some of those EA81 heads they make would be nice too!
  9. hmm... any other ideas? I will try that first one when I get the time.
  10. I was just wondering... Could this sound be a Throwout bearing? It makes it only when the clutch is released (driving or in neutral) How could I test if it's this bearing without taking the engine out?
  11. Isn't that what the O2 sensor and AFM do? When theres more air, it puts more fuel to go with it? That's how the Mazda 626's do it... Otherwise having fuel injection would be about as pointless as using tire blackener... Or blinker fluid for that matter..
  12. 'experience'?... I'd say this was quite an experience(watch the first 30 seconds or so.) That was my first time on the beach. I hadn't even let the tires down. Pretty much all I can add to what has been said is, say goodbye to all that pretty metal that holds your roo together :-\
  13. If there was a sticky about this all it could really say is 'for stock, if you don't want to cut/beat 25.5". If you don't mind cutting or beating, upto 29"...' Then again, we could just answer all these questions with that reply... Although, if we had a sticky like the EA81 in Old Gen, maybe we could get something that is pretty accurate?
  14. ... what year? It probably is just the fuel pump under the hood working.. Its a electrostatic(?) fuel pump so it can/does tick over really slow. does it tick faster when you have just turned the key for the first time in the morning?
  15. IF your not afraid of hitting that fender wall (bit between wheel and your feet) back 2 to 3 inchs then you would get 27" on there pretty easy I would think.
  16. Those wheels look phat man (lol, I used the word 'phat') I am planning a little for my EA81, might be similar setup as yours Lol, I got my ute with a dash like that in it. The guy who put it in said it was a pain in the .... and he would never think about doing it again. But I like having a tach, and for some reason my speedo reads almost correct with the 215/60R15's on it... ? Lol, you even kept the jack under the hood, how Subaru I guess you have the AWD low range box? Use the low much at all with those wheels?
  17. ... So EA81's started in 81? but the body style started in 80? (sorry to hijack)
  18. No, no, no... you NEED them so you can see over the top of the other truck that is lifted 2ft high.. What you need down there is a VW Baja bug/dune buggy with a EJ20t (I should really be saying up there, huh?)
  19. I like that green on that wagon.....
  20. The offset on my EA82 stock wheels is about 58mm. Hope that helps.
  21. Is that because it is too hard to get a 80's car to pass emissions? Sad.. becuase you'd think a Hummer would suck more juice and create more pollution, but I guess not on a percentage basis?... :-\
  22. You might want to try the Classifieds Section on this forum. In the listing use the spelling Turbo, that way more people will find it if they search.
  23. ... Speachless ...
  24. 1: a 1980 model GL won't have AWD, it came in FWD and 4WD (the 4WD version is FWD switchable to 4WD.) Also the 4WD boxes normally have dual range (a much for offroading) 2: You can put a rear LSD in pretty easy (pulled off a 87 to 89 RX) Lockers are pretty much out of the question. Lift kits come in 3.5" from http://www.ozified.com these days and you can make anything upto 12" really, check out http://www.subarubrat.com. With a 3.5" lift kit installed you should beable to fit upto 29" tires with bashing and cutting. 27" without (I would think.) People have put snorkles on, and there are some nice custom bullbars around on this forum. Try searching the Subaru Offroad section on this forum. 3: CV joints, they seem to be the expencive thing and normally needs fixing. 4: ... see 3:? 5: the 87 to 89 RX's came in FT4WD (Full Time) which had a open center diff that could be locked via a button. Some 4sp 4WD boxes in the older models 80 to 84, 87 for Brats and Hatches, had single range only. But most seem to come with dual range. Don't expect miricals form the dual range though, it is only a 1.49 to 1 ratio (unlike the 2.5 to 1 or there abouts form big 4WD's.) Hope that helps.
