I don't see how PS lines would get in the way? Don't you need some kind of bracket to support the header and turbo assembly? So my stock downpipe will not fit? I was counting on reusing it to pass smog. Then I was going to pull it off with the turbo and install a VF11 w/ WRX downpipe. How is the turbo repositioned (ie: farther back and higher up)? So will the WRX style downpipes fit? Do you mean that the turbo comes on 400 rpm EARLIER? It should not come on later.

This thread is in response to WJM's XT6 throttle body modification: I have a question or more like an opinion about putting a larger throttle body (like the XT6 one) on a turbo car. Don't get mad (I know WJM is really trying hard to make this work), but I don't think adding a larger throttle body will do much if anything to a turbo car. As long as the throttle body is the same size or larger than the turbo intake outlet (so that the throttle body is not the bottleneck), then I don't see any advantage to a larger throttle body. Sounds to me like the pressure will also decrease by increasing the size of the throttle body. Don't you want more pressure to gain more power on a turbo car? Also, the turbo would have to work harder to keep the pressure up. I remember a long while back when people were discussing intercoolers, they said (and this is from memory) that the benefit of adding an intercooler is to lower the intake air temperature, which in turn makes the air denser, which allows us to cram more air into the combustion chamber. By cramming more air (with more fuel too) into the combustion chamber, we can make more power. Now the downside (I think) to the intercooler is that it decreases the pressure because we have increased the volume. So, to fix this, we just turn up the boost! We increased the volume of the intake which is the downside (and which can be remedied by increasing the turbo boost pressure) to gain more power by cooling the air (upside). When adding a larger throttle body, it seems to me that we are increasing the volume which decreases the pressure which does not benefit anything (It certainly doesn't make the air any cooler/denser). Is there something wrong with my thinking? I don't know too much about this subject, but I am just trying to use common sense. You got any links to some good articles that covers throttle bodys on turbo cars or please explain how a larger throttle body is supposed to add power?

how do i make a turbo spool faster?
Marck replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
A better flowing header pipe should make it spool sooner. Get yourself a TWE pipe. -
The header is designed to fit to both the stock turbo and the wrx/legacy style turbos. The downpipe only fits the stock turbos.

The one I am looking at is a 1992 model and has 120,000 miles with the original engine and transmission. No known tranny or engine problems. I am told that the interior is perfect. It has power window and door locks, AWD, ABS, cc, cd, moon roof, leather seats, and A/C works good. There are the usual minor exterior scratches. There is a small oil leak, but not sure where it is coming from until I check out the car in person. They want $4,250 for it. How much would you pay for it? To be honest, I am not in need of another car and I just barely have enough for it. If I buy it I may have to postpone fixing my other subaru. But I find it hard to pass up a rare subaru (I think this may be a mental disorder). How does it feel to drive one of these? Do they feel too heavy? Thanks for replies.

welcome back!! You still got some interior to sell to me?

Abandoned Subaru in need of my help!...call 911
Marck replied to Marck's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I went to take a closer look at it today and I decided to pass on it. The front windshield is busted, it has a flat tire, the interior is completely torn apart, it has a crappy automatic tranny, and I am not even sure if it has an engine or not. It looks to me like they were parting it out and left the rest of it on the street. It looks like it would take too much time and money to revive. If it was a turbo coupe with 4wd, then it would have made a great parts car. Thanks for the help anyway. -
I think I may have come across an abandoned white 3 door GL coupe (non-turbo). I have been keeping my eye on it for a long time now. The people who owned it were tinkering around with it in their driveway for maybe half a year now. One day I would see it jacked up with its hood open being worked on and then the next day it would be covered up and so on. I think they finally given up on the poor thing. They had a large yard sale the about a week ago and now I think they moved out. They drove or maybe pushed their poor broken sube onto the street and stripped it of its license plates. It seems a cop came by there and placed a ticket on it. I am assuming it is abandoned. I think I am going to go down their tomorrow to see for myself if they really moved out and left it there. What I want to know is how hard and what is the procedure and what does it cost to get a title for an abandoned vehicle if I cannot get in touch with the owner?

Exhaust burble / popping EA82 Wagon??
Marck replied to 98067313's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have the same problem. Its an exhaust leak most likely. -

A leak I can't seem to find!?!?
Marck replied to theDirtyRue's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
First, I think you mean it is dripping onto the crossover pipe, not the downpipe. The downpipe goes from the turbo to the second cat. The crossover pipe goes from the engine to the turbo. If it is dripping from the front of the engine, then it can be the waterpump, or from the hose that goes to the top of the waterpump is blown, or the connection between the waterpump and the waterpump-to-radiator metal pipe is leaking, or it can be leaking from the top of the engine at the intake gaskets and then it drips down the front of the engine. -
if I remember correctly, I believe there are four relays mounted above the fuse box. One is for the left head light, another is for the right head light, another is for the blower fan, and I forget what the fourth one is for.

My favorite sube would be my first car. It is a 1987 Subaru 3 door GL turbo coupe with fulltime 4wd drive, dual range, center diff lock, rear lsd, rally suspention, rx seats, etc. It had every option the RX had except the white paint and the side & rear skirts. It was given to me by my brother in 2000. It inspired me to get my license. Thats right, I got this car before my drivers license. The first two years it has been reliable, but after that it has been a lemon. Every damn thing keeps breaking on it, but I still love it. I love the way it drives. I learned a heck of a lot fixing it too. I knew nothing about cars when I started, and now I know more than any of my friends. The sube has been sitting on my driveway for almost a year now. I am almost ready to tackle my first head job on it. When I pull the engine to replace the heads, I plan to do a lot of serious upgrades. Part of the list of goodies includes a VF11 turbo, wrx intercooler & bov, delta cams, spider intake, xt6 flywheel & clutch, and TWE header & downpipe. I can't wait. Love this car and I will never get rid of it.

junkyard would be your best bet

is this what you are looking for: http://www.ricambisport.com/

Sounds like the hillholder. When you stop on a hill and facing up you can then press the clutch in and hold it there and then remove the brake. The car should stay stationary as long as the hillholder cable is adjsuted properly.

Sometimes I feel I'm being ignored.
Marck replied to Adam N.D.J.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I may be interested in a fiberglass hood with a wrx style (but not as wide so that it fits on the hump) hood scoop for the EA82T. This would save me the trouble of installing the scoop for my intercooler and shed a few pounds, but then I would have to have it painted. I think I would go for it for $200 if the shipping won't be too bad. -
