Burnt smell and squeal
alrighty. so im driving home tonight and start smelling a burnt rubber smell coming from the heater vents. i pull over and lift the hood and theres no smoke, just the odor. i check all fluids and everythings fine. I make it the last 1/2 mile home without incident, just the odor. So, i get home and shut it off. i look around to see if a hose fell off and is touching something hot. nope. so, i start it up again and the belts start squealing. belts are only 5 months old, so condition isn't an issue. i hop inside and turn off the defroster and squeal goes away. squeal then reappears whenever heater or defroster is switched on, with it being more pronounced when the defroster is turned on. additionally, my rpms have always dropped a few hundred for a second or two whenever the defroster is switched on, but ive never really worried about it too much. so, i guess what im wondering is if my heater is locked up or something. i do get air coming through the vents though even though the belts are squealing like crazy. oh, vehicle in question is a 92 Loyale 5sp 4wd wagon. thanks.

New subaru Loyale in town!!!
hmm you should be able to get the panel off. screws are in the padded door handleand behind the latch. panel should pop off. or you could call a locksmith to unlock it for you. ------------------------------- 1992 Loyale 4wd Wagon

What do you guys think of BFG's?
i had some BFG all seasons on my Loyale until just recently. they were pretty good tires, but were worn out after 35,000 miles or so. check out the Kumho Touring 795's for a good all season tire. i just put them on and have been pleased. they also get stellar reviews over on tirerack.com as well.

new here, Hello!!
why a justy?

Why do people hate Loyales?
actually, the headlights on my loyale are bulbs behind glass, not plastic. they still aren't very bright though even though the glass is clean and in good condition

Why do people hate Loyales?
which pretty much sums up how the little outback sports look.. my opinion of course..

camber and toe
well, i got some new tires a little while back and had an alignment done as well. Front was fine, however the tire shop says the rear is "way out of whack". Readings: rear right: camber -.3 toe -.21 rear left: camber -1.0 toe -.32 they stated that they could fix it, but what they needed to adjust the rear was rusted up and would be a minimum 2 hrs labor to get it fixed. i asked to see what they were talking about, but they said the car was already off the rack and parked out front. i told them id look into it myself and took my keys and left. so, the left side does seem a bit off, but are they off enough to be an issue? previous owner had a hitch on it so im wondering if the bushings are a bit shot. at any rate, i wasnt about to let the guy at the tire shop go banging around on anything.

Your thoughts...
you should also be able to find one with less than 250,000 miles on her as well.

BlueTrain replied to beastbikes's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXmy "fwd" reference was not in reference to the tire rotation, but in reference to the lack of fwd being a "problem" as stated by another poster.

BlueTrain replied to beastbikes's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthese don't sound like problems at all. having to rotate 4 tires? no fwd? these arent "problems".. minor inconveniences at best. no mechanical problems? sounds like a good car.

HELP! Should I buy this car? ? questions ? - help!
how recent are the reapirs? when were the timing belts done? i'd also be wary of the "tailpipe problem".. it seems convenient for him that the holiday prevents it from being emission tested.. if its 4wd and in decent shape, it seeems like a good price. however in my neck of the woods, soobs go for a lot more $$.

what do you like about your suby?
haaa lets see. easy to work on/fiddle with for the most part. best handling vehicle ive ever had in the snow, and ive driven many an suv/4wd p/u etc. something about the low center of gravity and 4wd really makes a difference in the snow/ice built much sturdier than a typical car.. built more like a truck actually. cargo area is a plus can't complain about the fuel consumption mechanics in my town love the soobs and will often give a bit of help for no charge. my only complaints are too little power when climbing the mountain passes and a noisy fuel pump. other than than that.. i love my rig...

A very sad day today
ahh i spent 6 years in marquette and know how sketchy those roads can get in the winter, especially that one section along the lake near the prison. icy as all hell. glad to hear you're all good.

just curious, but where did you happen to find the vacuum leak to be?- Low idle problems
vacuum leak, fuel starved, IAC valve or etc. do a search on here as there are many, many threads on idle issues. i have my own idle quirkiness (hops around between 5-700rpm at idle) that i have yet to cure. good luck- 92 Loyale........Portland....Timing belts........ help? please?

$1500?? thats ridiculous. A while back i had mine replaced along with a new water pump and an oil pump reseal for $325.- How big is the gas tank?
ha, i thought i was the only one with this... if i wait till the light comes on and drive, oh say a couple miles to fill it up, it only takes like 12 gallons or so.. - grinding in 3rd gear 05 sti
