Frigg! How do I make my aftermarket speakers fit?
BlueTrain replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if you really care about your ride, don't take it somewhere like circuit city. hit the pawn shop, get a drill, and do it up yourself. if you do it yourself the sound will be that much better knowing you did the work yerself. just my .02 -
is it manual or auto tranny? even tho its only 700, id still have a competent mechanic look it over to make sure its not in need of anything too major in the near future. 25 bucks on a mechanic could keep the 700 wagon from becoming the 3000 wagon. Oh, and find out when the timing belts were last replaced also. good luck..

sorry, you my friend are wrong. there have been many, many folks on here who have switched from dino to synth and experienced oil leaks. Sure, the seals may be older, but it was in fact the synth that caused the leaks. There have also been many many on here who have switched to synth with no problems as well. A good dino and filter, changed regularly will do just fine.

5sp tranny fluid question
BlueTrain replied to starkiller's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i may have to try that mix. this past fall i changed out the gear oil with valvoline. now in the cold, it is very hard to shift unless i let car warm up for 5-7 minutes. last winter, no problems whatsoever. im thinking previous owner may have had synth in there. next stretch of semi-warm weather and im swapping the valvoline garbage out. -

Questions about snow driving/snow tires
BlueTrain replied to pinksoda3's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you need to go practice somewhere with ice and snow before you start driving on mountain passes. get used to your car sliding around. good luck and take it slow. -

Well, lets see. Some folks on here have had no leaks. Then after switching to synth, developed leaks. Therefore, this is not a myth. However, one also cannot make a blanket statement stating that switching to synth will definitely cause an oil leak, as some have made a switch and developed absolutely no leaks. This has been debated on many occasions on this site. I've come to the conclusion that it's kind of like russian roullette. Some may get a leak, some may not. Personally, i choose not to take that risk, and stick with dino. All of the vehicles ive seen make it to 250,000+ have been run on dino, changed on a regular basis. I personally run 10-30 Castrol GTX and Napa Gold filters. Works for me.

Manual tranny shift problems
BlueTrain replied to hooziewhatsit's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, first off it is almost impossible to get it into first unless you are almost completely stopped. Secondly, its getting cold, so the gear oil is a bit thick when you first start her up. Keep letting it warm up before you drive, and it should be fine. Just don't force it into any gears. Bad. Very bad. -
Preferred gasoline for Subes?
BlueTrain replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
89 from Conoco. pings on 87 -
I'm running 10-30 Castrol GTX and the motor runs fantastic on it.

Nope it had all 4 doors. owner had apparently welded oh, about 3 feet or so of a ford (at least the tailgate said ford) pickup bed on the rear of his forrester. i picked up a disposable camera and threw it in the glove box for future encounters. looked like a good way to haul firewood without having to throw it all in the back or use a trailer.

mine's not a turbo, but i run the NGK's and they work quite well.

Ok, so I'm pulling up to a red light and see what looks to be a white Forrester in the left turn lane next to me. Well, it was, mostly. The guy had taken a Forrester, and welded about half of what appeared to be a Ford Ranger pickup bed on the back of the Forrester. It had then been repainted i imagine because the transition from Forrester to Ford seemed to be seamless. It was not a full bed, but long enough for the rear gate on the Forrester to swing open. i only got to get a quick look, since the green arrow went green about 4 seconds after i pulled up. Anyways, It kind of looked like one of them there Baja's with more storage. Kinda cool...

Buying 91 Loyale Wagon 4WD, Advice?

i'd also probably at least take it to a competent mechanic to give her a good look over. -
Fair price on 92 Loyale?
BlueTrain replied to viceversa's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
last october picked up my 92 for 1,370$ She had 142,000 miles, new clutch, water pump, and front axles. Body has 4 or 5 tiny rust spots, and a few shopping cart dings. Interior is almost perfect. Oh, and its 4wd w/ a manual tranny.
