Loosening stubborn oil drain plug...
BlueTrain replied to leej323's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you sure you're turning it the right way? actually i was over at a friends a few months back and he was reefing on his drainplug and i looked underneath and he was turning it the wrong way.. sooo it does happen.. lol -
many carriers out here use soobs for routes, but they are all early -mid 90's auto tranny legacy wagons. clutch will most surely be gone sooner rather than later along with the brakes.

if you mean that the pressure drops quite a bit while at idle after warm up, that is pretty normal. however, if it is staying low while in higher rpm's, you may have other issues. additionally, the gauges are also notoriously quirky.

aha.. another 92 loyale in missoula. i run 10-30 Castrol GTX and Napa Gold Filters with good results. I think i remember reading in the manual that 5-30 is too thin for extended highway driving.

you say the body is pretty rusty.. you should check the undercarriage too, as it could be in pretty bad shape. but 27,000 miles??.. something doesnt sound right. if the body is in pretty bad shape, id say 1,800 is prettty high as well. as for Loyales.. well i love mine.. kinda slow, and kinda noisy at times, but aren't we all? it has served me well out here in montana and has done 2 cross country trips in every type of weather imaginable and gotten me there safely.

i ordered a pioneer head unit and some kenwood speaks from crutchfield last year.. came to about 170 shipped.. comes with fit kit, wiring harnesses, install instructions etc.. rewire your speaks while you're in there..pretty easy job.. good luck.. -
ok.. so im getting ready for another cross country jaunt.. (montucky to michigan)..i was just wondering what gear you all are in when cruising teh interstate at about 70. at 70 im ruinning about 3200 in 5th and 4k in 4th. any difference in mpg's etc.. i know, probably a wicked dumb question, but oh well....

Electrical system funkiness (list)
BlueTrain replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yep, my loyale does the little fuel pump pulse when i use the blinkers as well.. ive gotten used to it, and people seem amused at all the "fun" little noises it makes at various times. -
ok, so tonight after work i went and found a nice new butter smooth strip of newly paved road to get a better listen. y'know it does sound a bit like an exhaust leak. a small one perhaps. again, noise seems to be coming from somewhere on the drivers side of the front of the car. noises don't really get to me too much, but im embarking on a another cross country run here in about 11 days, so im thinking it may get kind of annoying. we'll see...

yep, not quite as pronounced, but its there..

I'm keeping a gallon of coolant handy
BlueTrain replied to curtis@sdicasper's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hopefully its just something simple like a cracked or loose hose. could be a faulty water pump tho.. -
jeebus, after those last few posts mine is just a pup at 164,000 mi. nice work folks..

ya, the cadence does increase somewhat..i have done the seafoam treatment (crankcase and pcv hose) with no effect. my oil pressure hovers about 40-45 at 4000. next week im doing the t.belts and oil pump gaskets so we'll see if that helps the oil pressure. y'know.. the strangest thing about this is actually WHEN it happens. asy im driving to work at 230.. no clicking or anything. But, later around 11p when driving home from work is when the clicking happens. Basically sounds like a baseball card in a bike wheels spokes, only louder and in relation to throttle pressure. im wondering if it has anything to do with how long i let it warm up. before work i start it up and let it sit for 3-4 minutes. after work it usually runs for a minute or so before i drive away. i dont know... thanks for all the suggestions thus far....

ya, i was referring to my loyale in my signature.. EA82 spfi

New Subaru (EA82) owners: Things to fix
BlueTrain replied to Syonyk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ha.. ya that switch on top of the steering wheel is kinda funny.. the girl i bought my loyale from didn't know about it, so every time she would park the car she would unhook the battery so it didnt get drained from the switch being on... -
Alrighty.. i've got this tick/click problem. y'see whenever i drive oh, say over 2500 rpm i get this audible click/tick coming from what seems to be the drivers side of the engine. it is also directly related to the foot on the pedal.. push pedal, noise is there.. let off the pedal noise goes away.. ive done mucho searching of the site and read pretty much every thread related to clicks, ticks and cracks.. (and theres a heckuva lot of em) is the infamous TOD related to foot on the pedal, or is it just always there? it also does not appear to be a cv, as both axles are new (12,000 mi) and the boots are not torn. so, any ideas? all answers, ideas, suggestions welcome.. thanks...
