I drain and fill and then pull the return hose off the radiator. Run a hose into a gallon jug and start the engine. Pour fluid in the trans at the same rate its coming out into the jug. When you have clean fluid coming out the radiator cooler, you have flushed the trans. It takes about 3 gallons for a complete flush. Check out www.bossproductsusa.com for a great trans filter. Larry

There is a spring clip that holds the stub shaft in the Diff. If the stub shaft pulled out, look to see if the spring clip is there. If not, I'd drain the diff and see if it comes out. At any rate, you need a new clip. Pull the half-shaft pin, put the stub shaft in with a new clip and then put the half shaft back on.

Fuel pump test
lmdew replied to tcspeer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
You can put 12V to the pump connection as a backup to see if its the pump. -
Drain the coolant Jack the front as high as you can get it Open the bleed plug on the radiator and pull the cap SLOWLY fill the coolant system (I fill through the bleed plug) you have to do it slowly that way! When full, put the bleed plug in Keep on Squeezing the upper hose until you get all the air put Start the car and repeat step above Let it come to temp and shut it off When cool, let it off the jack, fill the coolant and take it for a test drive.

PYE I have your drive shafts for your trans swap. I pulled them from a 92 Legacy Sedan. Good Shape, I'll also send the diff input so if your 96 is different, you can swap them over. That what I did on my son's RS Trans install. Send your shipping address and email. Lmdew@hotmail.com Lost your email.

Single core, which is more cooling than you should need if the system is in good shape! -

I have one for an Outback Sport, it may fit your as well. $50 plus shipping. Lmdew@hotmail.com. I can send some pics when I get home. Aftermarket metal end caps, no plastic. -
Keep it simple: Is the fluid properly serviced? Install the FWD fuse, does that help? If the fuse does not help drop the rear section of the rear drive shaft that should get rid of the torque bind but gas mileage will be bad! Used Transmission will be less! Oil leaks are easy if you can do the work.

CV Boot
lmdew replied to AussieIan's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
Balance will be a concern. I use 0.320 safety wire about 6 wraps and do them that way. Pull it good and tight and it will seal and not damage the boot.
