  1. Hello, I'd like to made a thread on this so me and other people can have a better idea, im a noob with these old subarus, and even more of a noob with suspension/steering parts. So I plan to lift my 83 GL wagon, I already know where to get the lift kit and shocks etc, my question is I want to convert to power steering...I heard that other EA81's where power steering if this is true i believe the best route to take would be to find one and convert it to that one....i have to add a PS pump, rack and pinion, and tie rods. Is there anything I'm missing...TIA. I also plan to change the bus steering wheels to something more ideal...
  2. AMAZING! So much inspiration for mine, I bought mine for 150$ and want to do a SOHC EJ in it...and a 5 speed transmission, let me pick your brain! Also want to lift it..
  3. I WANT TO SEE WHAT THIS BEAST LOOKS LIKE NOW!
  4. I'm really happy I found this thread since I also plan to do the Weber Carb swap to my 83 GL. Now after reading this I see a few of you talk about other threads about the vaccum line deleting, and all that you need for the Weber carb swap, I am going to look for this now but just incase any of you readily have the link I'd love if it got posted here Thanks in advance!
  5. I'm VERY interested in these as well If you could let me know as soon as you know on the Price that would be greatly appreciated. From what I understand they would fit like factory there wouldn't need to be any major custom fabrication?
  6. So if you where to swap it with the XT6 hubs, are they kind of just plug and play like do they just bolt on the same as the old 4x140 or do you have to change something? Because I also read that you can change them into older impreza hubs and knuckles but as far as I can tell there it looks kind of demanding in the sense that the knuckles are different looking in mounting styles too....SOMEONE HELP
  7. Hello, I just have a few random questions about my GL.... 1. My voltage fluxuates a lot it doesn't effect the battery being charged or anything besides it shakes the engine a lot and it almost seems as if I have a broken engine mount or something, it shakes and makes a rattle noise uncontrollably and its BECAUSE of the voltage BUT I'm unsure of what is rattling very badly. So my question is why do you think my voltage is fluxuating? AND what are the normal signs or a broken engine mount the whole front of the car shakes and it also only fluxuates at idle... 2. I bought this car with rear disc brakes already installed, they sound like theyre metal on metal when I break but there is quite a bit of brake pad material left so anyone know why that could be happening? Like the conversion was not done correctly? 3. What brakes do you run when you drill to a 6x5.5 lug pattern? do you have to change anything crazy besides the obvious like rotors and calipers like do the brake lines all fit into each other or do you have to change all of that too? 4. Rust repair for a non-welder/ametur body work person. THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL YOUR HELP!
  8. 1983 GL Wagon 371,000+ miles and still going strong! 1999 Impreza outback sport 175,000 2011 STI 116,000 They aren't exact but they are all right around there!
  9. I mean no one is forcing you to do it, it's just a suggestion and a great one, forums are meant to help you and increase your knowledge. No ones forcing you. I love my EA81 too but I know for the direction I'm going with my GL its going to need the EJ, but if you're simply staying stock height etc and just don't need any more HP or power there isn't really a major need for you to do it. Happy Subaruing!
  10. Afternoon everyone, So I'm new to this forum and after reading quite a few different topics I'm seeing that for my GL wagon that I have in order to just get a little more out of it which will be useful to me because I'm planning to solely use this car as an adventure mobile it would be wise to put the Web carb and a different exhaust on it, and possibly a snorkel and electric fans to a switch if I plan on puddle smash so to speak (which I do). Now my question is obviously they probably don't make aftermarket full exhaust kits for these ea81's so how should I go about that, I don't know how to weld, or no anyone who does and I don't really want to spend a fortune on a full custom one to get made if I can avoid it. So how should go about this? I saw some people bought like catback wrx and sti exhausts, but did you change the stock ea81 headers etc? ANOTHER question I have is about the Snorkel, where do I buy that?!?! I found the carb, that's about it... Thanks in advance again! Happy trails!
  11. Yay! I FINALLY found wheels I can buy for my GL Thank you!
  12. Now does anyone know where I can but aftermarket 4x140 wheels or if I should just do the drill to make it the 6 lug or if I should buy the wheel adapters to make them 5x100, I haven't decided what I should do yet anyone have any suggestions or any feedback on which way they went...that kinda thing? Thanks again sorry I might overload you all with questions I don't have a bunch of knowledge in older subarus, just 1998 and above.
  13. Thank you so much for all of your help! I really appreciate it, I'm hoping that one turbosubarubrat sent me is still up on payday.
  14. This is amazing! Great work cant wait to see it done!
  15. I have 3 Subaru's! But my favorite is my 83 Subaru GL Wagon but I also have a 2011 STI Hatch and a 1999 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport
  16. Hello all, I have a 1983 Subaru GL 4 door wagon and I am desperately searching for the driver side tail light assembly for it. When I bought the car the lenses where cracked and I have looked on eBay, Amazon, Craigslist, Google, just about everywhere I have thought to look. If anyone out here could help me with this it would be greatly appreciated. I also have some other questions about this car but I can make a New Topic about those! Thanks in advance! Happy Subaruing!
  17. I'd definitely be interested in these for my 1983 GL.
