The answer is too often the same - "EJ it"
There are things that can be done. The benefits are very small. The cost is usually expensive in relation to the benefit received. Bigger turbos stress the already prone to explode head gaskets. Bigger exhaust helps but then you are dealing with the extra and higher noise levels. Tune it, fix the oil leaks, drive it, then modify it(EJ22/T or EJ20). Search for WJM or Tex's posts on the subject.

The Rallycross committee will put their calendars together and we will come up with a reschedule date and post it as soon as possible. Thank you all for using the pre-registration tab on the website to register, it makes planning much easier. Now if mother- nature would just cooperate. Did You Get It Yet????
With this attitude you will be. This type of business is no longer taken lightly here. Too many things have happened over the years to allow this. If you continue in this manner you will not be allowed to play here. Consider that before you hit the reply button next time.

93 1.8 to 96 2.2 Motor Swap
I do not recall ours having one. I'll check the block and let you know.

93 1.8 to 96 2.2 Motor Swap
I did the exact swap. '93 Impreza 1.8 with 275,000 miles. Pulled motor out and installed a '96 2.2 from a Legacy wagon. Use the intake manifold from the Impreza. that way the electrical just plugs back in. You can run it with the 1.8 ECU. I used the exhaust header pipe from the Legacy. Had the rest of the exhaust built to match. Huge difference in power and only slight drop in MPG. Makes doing the pass to eastern Washington much nicer.

so here's waht happened
If you are set on replacement and are considerring rebuilding them you should contact Delta camshafts. They have started a line of rebuilt heads. Very nice work and a much better way to go than finding a good used head.

oil change dismay
It may always be clean but heat breaks down oil. Thus causing the oil to lose viscosity. Which means it will lose it's ability to lubricate.

Oil Leak BS
This is completely true... on a vehicle that is not maintained properly. Sorry folks but this is fact. An engine that is not maintained properly will leak oil, water, blow headgaskets, etc. Once an engine is overheated ALL the seals should be replaced. I have done many reseals over the years. Most have not had any issues after said reseals. Most times gaskets get replaced by people who do not have "extra" money to do the job right. Bottom line is this. Just because it is an EA82 does not mean it will or has to leak oil. Fix it right and it will not leak oil. Depending on how you drive it though it will use oil. I have zero leaks on my EJ25 and I go through about 1-2 quarts per oil change. Drive it hard around redline most of the time. :-\ So, yes, you can replace the seals, o-rings and gaskets and keep the oil where it belongs. It doesn't have to cost thousands to be dry!

Ok 3 Repair Q?
WOW! Doom and gloom. 1. The coil does indeed get weaker over time. As does any electronic device. Aftermarket ones are indeed viable replacements. They do work well with Subarus. I have replaced every coil in all of my EA and ER equipped Subarus. I have not heard of any bad coils lately. Accel had a run of bad chromies a few years back. Maybe you should start a thread asking how many people are running aftermarket coils. Might surprise you on the results. 2. TOD, many long-winded articles have been written on this subject. And, a lot of bad info has been given over the years. Two things cause this(as Gary wrote). Bad oil pumps or seals. Weak or bad HVLA. Hydraulic lifters do not go bad very often. The TOD is caused by low oil pressure. This can be repaired by replacing the oil pump or by the seals, in most cases. However, this does not always solved the problem. I each head-cam assy there is a small spring and check ball. This allows the lifters to pump up before sending oil to the rest of the head. If this spring weakens the pressure will not be reached and the lifters will tick. You can order a new spring or try to "stretch" the old one slightly. Beware that you can overstretch the spring and cause it to need too much pressure. Seafoam does work as an internal cleaner. Follow the directions on the can. It works in the engine and the fuel system to clean out the gunk that plagues. 3. Cats, another long-winded subject. Again reaping loads of bad advice from those with no clue. You can replace cats. You can replace two cats with one high-flow cat. You can swap in a "test-pipe". But it will not regulate the emissions. My Imoreza has a catless system and will not pass sniffer. Add the stock cats and it has almost zero emissions. I am not getting into the enviromental side of this as I will not be hypocritical(sp). For a non-registered vehicle I assume it will be used offroad only. Hope this helps clear up some of the myths.

Cool EA81 Door Trim.
Yes, it is a stock item. Many have had it. I have had about 5+ that had it. Looks to be in pretty good shape for sitting in the yard. Does it run?

Look what we got

Reiter Pit / somewhere run
And thanks to that Rubicon I got the broken taillight to prove it! If that Toyota got buried to the frame I doubt too many 'roo's will be going to the wall.

Introduction
'98 and later Outbacks are roomier. By this time they should have had the headgaskets done along with the timing belts. We just got a '98 and love it. I do not understand why anyone would swap a 2.2 for a 2.5 though. We now have 3 2.5's in our family and have had zero problems!

Reiter Pit / somewhere run
'Yota...Subaru needs repair...still :-\ Besides, I hear that the wall trail is a bit tougher than before. That is where I want to go while we are up there.
