I haven't had any disputes with SOA. I did have a MAJOR one with Chrysler. I got the runaround until I mailed them a real letter, to the corporate headquarters. I described my complaint and general dissatisfaction with the dealer response in the letter, and attached a complete narrative and documented timeline, that noted all visits, responses and lack therof. I also included a cc: to an atty friend on the bottom of the letter. I got back a letter authorizing me to take the vehicle to any repair facility I chose and send Chrysler the bill. I think you may have to break out of e-mode and resort to paper to really get their attention.

I've had five Subarus and the sum total of all oil added between changes over the years and quarter million or so miles is zip, zero, nada.When my '87 needed oil it meant it wash change time anyhow, 'bout 3,000 miles, but that was after it had passed 200,000 miles.

I hate to say it, but if you contact your insurance company they'll probably total the car. Then cancel you.

We just use 6.2 in calculating weight & balance on airplanes. Keeps us pilots from gettin confused.

I checked the car and there is no name on the wheels. There is (I think) a stylized lion head on the center cap. They are alloy, and 16"s. I asked the cop and he didn't know (drug siezure car) but he sure liked driving it ... 'specially in winter.

We have a 2.2 and a 2.5, both with AT and cruise control. I find that they shift at almost the same point on the Whitefish grade going home from work in Kalispell. I can't give you RPM comparisons 'cause the 2.5 is a Brighton. The only place I really notice any difference is in passing.

Conner, summer of 2003 I jumped in my identical '87 GL and drove it straight thru from NW MT to Baltimore, in 54 hours. When I left I had 204,000 miles on the car. After my contract was over I came straight back, and finally sold it at 212,000. It's still going strong around town. I bought it at 130,000, and drove it for four years, when I sold it I still had the same clutch and brakes it came with.

DANG! If that was closer, I'd buy it and give it to MudRat to do the cage over right. It does look fun, but it's sooo-ooo clunky.

I second and third that one ... I sure wish Subaru would build a light pick-up. Just move the backlight of the Baja up to just behind the front seats, beef up the suspension, and give me a straightforward, no-frills pickup bed. Soneone did a beaut photoshgop of the truck Subaru should build.

Watch the bay of e, and see how many Subarus turn up cheap in Florida. Most are automatics tho, 'cause it's geezers retiring and realizing they no longer need AWD. AWD 'Roos are also really expensive in Montana, I had to go to Chicago to get a reasonable deal (found it on this board). It came with a minimum of salt damage. My next door neighbor offered me two grand over what I paid for it the day I got it home.

We've had our 2000 since 11/01, when we bought it with 99,850 miles already on it (in thirteen months). We got a killer deal 'cause the lot couldn't move it. We're now at 160,000+ miles, and the only non-sched repair was a front wheel bearing. This winter we drove to Polebridge, MT (over 30 miles) through 18" of unplowed snow. The guy at the general store couldn't believe it. He asked "Did the state plow already?" (it was still snowing like crazy). Now my wife want's it lifted 3", to make it easier to get in and out of ... or, she said I 'could' just buy her a new Outback. I drive a '95 Legacy I bought off the board from Chicago. Had it up to 105 mph in Wyoming (about 03:00 hrs on I-90) and it was as smooth as butter, and at that speed felt like it was nailed to the road ... no aero-float at all. It's got about 135,000 and runs like a new car. We were driving '87 GL wagons before, and in some ways I miss the rough & tumble of the 'Jap tractors', but nothing beats the AWD system and the comfort of modern Subarus for every day driving.
