SPFI block w/ turbo heads q/a
calebz replied to X35 Performance's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Currently running 9psi with a mostly stock fuel system.. No major troubles yet. Did run into a couple MAF problems since the stock airbox couldn't be retained. Thats handled now.. I think. Will probably be going over to MS&S after the first of the year -
I have a carb shortblock with turbo heads and manifold. 02-03 WRX TD04 turbo and intercooler. 2.5 inch stock WRX exhaust from the turbo to the rear diff. No muffler. Sounds nice:D . Running 9-10psi currently and its a lot of fun. Carb'd motor crank pulley..It weighs about 2.5 pouds less than the turbo pulley. Fuel system and management is currently mostly stock. After the first of the year, I intend to install the most recent revision of the MegaSquirt & Spark system and toss the stock ECU and MAF. May do injectors and RRFPR at that time.. But I want to get the stock parts tuned well with the MS&S first. Then I will start making improvements, because I will be able to tune it as I go. I will do my spider install at the same time.. I have one, just been to busy/lazy to install it. Oh yeah, can't forget the WRX wheels, coilovers, Rear LSD and 20mm sway bars. Those helped a bit in the handling area. Made the car a lot more fun to drive

Mine runs like a bat out of hell.. High compression and TD04 for the win! -
Personally, I would test and/or clean the sensors causing the codes... Bad/dirty throttle sensor could easily cause the driveability problems you are currently having.
-
This is it;) Replace the cap and rotor, then clear the codes. Drive it around a little, see if it does better. See if you get more codes. Report back. Also, which coolant temperature sensor did you replace.

Definitely AN XT has 4 cyniders A GL has 4 cylinders An XT6 however, has .. you guessed it.. 6 cylinders

Not sure where you are, but in the US market, the 85-86 turbo cars used a different fuel system and distributor than the 87-90 turbo cars.

Cant leave 4WD!!!!!!! HELP
calebz replied to BlindSight's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
1 - don't use 4wd on dry pavement 2 - put it in reverse and back up until drivetrain load is lessened -
Seafoam injection for older subes.

Was just thinking the same thing.. theres an underhood pic somewhere -
Good point.. My speedometer is closer to accurate now with the WRX wheels on it than it ever has been. At least according to my magellan

WIll, Re-read that.. I don't think a VF22 with antilag on a stock motor would last very long;)

Spyder intake not required - At least the TD04 on my 87 wagon didn't require using a spyder.. Maybe your install is different;) Uppipe flange is the same for the TD04 and the VF10-12 (I think) Down pipe flange is the same for the TD04 and the VF10-12 ( I know this for a fact) Spool times are not noticeably different between the stock turbo and the TD04. Boost comes on just a tiny bit later, but it also moves more air at lower boost than stock.

TD04 from a WRX fits quite nicely with some of the same mods.

I have copied this to the old gen forum in hopes that John sees it and deals with it appropriately

87 T wagon Highway - 20 City - OMGWTFTERRible!!

The thing with the honda is just the springs.. not the complete strut. Most major manufacturers make struts for EA82 cars.. If you're looking into prices, just call up your local sears or Autozone.

One of my Saabs actually had that listed as proper shifting procedure in the owners manual. After so many years of driving them, I do that out of habit in any manual car I drive now.

Actually, this seems to be pretty much the norm for him when it comes to doing stuff for people that live more than a few miles from him. This is becoming at least a twice yearly thing to see one of these threads pop up and a ton of people realize they are not alone. Not bagging on John at all..Simpy amazed when this happens over and over and over again and people seem surprised.
