Why dont subes have free-wheeling hubs
calebz replied to ausubaru92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok. But how do you feel about punctuation and complete sentences? I had a brand new Kia for 5 years. put about 125k on it. Never had any trouble. Sold it to my best friend. It died at 190k due to a redneck in a lifted ford f-250 and his apparent lack of familiarity with the meaning of a red light. Destroyed the Kia. But my friend walked away unharmed. Not too shabby for a $10k car with 190k on it. -
Moving to New Gen General rules for gas mileage Highway driving at sustained speeds - good 87 octane - Bad (would bet your owners manual calls for 89, but elevation plays a part in there too Auto Tranny - Bad A/C - Bad Stop and go - Bad You have more minuses than pluses. change in fuel, tune and driving habits will help (with emphasis on the change in driving habits.. that is generally the biggest factor)

Depends on how much money you want to spend, what you are using it for, and what you want. BTW.. there is no such thing as an EJ20T;)

baby seat latch mod - pics
calebz replied to loyalewithcheese's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Seriously. DO NOT USE THAT TO HOLD YOUR KID IN!! That is absolutely friggin nuts. In an accident, that thing is going to bend and/or rip right out and you will have a dead kid and a severely pissed off wife. The loyales had factory attachment points for car seat anchors in the rear cargo area of the wagons and on the rear deck of the sedans (at least according to the owners manual for my 90 loyale). Be smart and use those. If you don't have them, the safest spot in your car is the rear center seat utilizing the lap belt to hold the carseat in. -

ATF stop leak work for power steering?
calebz replied to RickOregon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I haven't done it to the wagon yet, But I used ATF stopleak to te steering rack on my camry a year or so ago. I was having to top it off every week. Hasn't leaked for a year (30k miles). Pump is starting to sound tired though -
I did it, and mine actually runs;) Just dig through my picture gallery and that will give you a pretty good idea what I did. Let me know if you have any questions.

Is there any cheap and easy mods to do to get h/p?
calebz replied to soobmater's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
For plugs, the stock NGKs are the way to go -
If you are reaferring to the rear hubs bearings, one thing to check is that you got the castle nut torqued on enough.. they can make some hideous noises if not tight.
-
Hmm.. I have a big stick and a dead horse here.. what should I do with them?

Aside from basic tune up stuff, there really is no free power.. You gotta pay to play;) -
All USDM WRX rear diffs are LSD I think..
-
Hell with junkyards, Thats what USMB members are for.. I have at least one good extra headlight from an 88 wagon in the garage.. not sure which side it is, but I can check.
-
Just remember, its not rocket science. For the most part these turbos are old and used.. My wastegate may open at 8-9psi, but someone else with the same car may ony get 7 just because..

suggestion of possible spoiler for RX
calebz replied to eddygordouk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
How much downforce, at what speed, does the stock spoiler add? Same question for the fiero spoiler. What mathematical formula are you using to determine downforce. -
Those are eBay cheapo adjustable coilovers for a 2002-2004 WRX. In the pic of the car, they are almost all the way down. In the current configuration, they are 350# rear and 450# front. If I want to go camping or I need to load the car up with 900+ pounds of stuff (wouldn't be the first time) I can adjust them about 3 inches up from where they are now.. Warning: they will make for a much stiffer ride than you are used to, and the stock struts/shocks don't keep up with the spring rate as much as I would like.

Adjustibility is fun Before: After: Just an added note. The Before pic is with 14 inch pugs with a diameter of ~25 inches. The after picture is with 16 inch Konigs with a diameter of ~25 inches

EA82T Oxygen Sensor Yes or no
calebz replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm running without one right now. Not really a big deal.. Makes your gas mileage a little worse. Rermember, the ECU ignores the 02 sensor when you are on boost, so the best way to deal with it is to always be on boost :-p -
Shift Knob Size for 87 GL-10
calebz replied to NuclearBacon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The thread is 12x1.25, just like your lugnuts;) Pretty much all subarus through the 80s, 90s and 00s use the same thread. -
Yup, I have had the trip computer start at random times, counting down from a random number.. when it gets to zeo it emits a long beep. Has scared the hell out me a couple times

Is there any nice, newer N/A engine i can swap into my RX?
calebz replied to gotime242's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
There isn't really isn't anything newer that is a direct swap. Check the retrofitting forum for one of the many EJ swap threads to see what is involved.
