  1. If it helps open your search up, the 4wd XT flywheel is the same as any other EA82 4wd flywheel... I don't have one out to masure, but this may get more people that can help...
  2. Holy crap!! Its a good thing I didn't know all that before I hooked up my difflock.. I would have had to replace half of the car instead of running 2-3 wires through the firewall!
  3. I might suggest trying out a carb motor crank pulley and sprockets. Not only with they have the dowel pin you require, but the pulley is about 2 pounds lighter than the EA82T pulley. I believe there are some comparison pics in my gallery:D
  4. 88 GL,DL, GL-10 (EA82) Complete 2002 Impreza - Complete
  5. My EA82T didn't have the locater pin on the factory sprockets or pulley
  6. Just set it aside in a little pile and come back later when life allows. You'll get it.
  7. Doh! Sorry Paul. You were not left out on purpose
  8. Theres a local guy here that has one just like you described. Its a 79 5 speed FWD. Ity does kinda resemble an old Celica. somewhat cool looking. He's in process of a full restoration on it. I'm sure Todd or Jason or one of the other Gen 1 guys could give you a breakdown on the specs better than I could.
  9. Gee corky, he quoted paul before making his statement. on this here internet thingie, thats a commonly accepted way of responding to a specific statement. Much like I am doing here. As a matter of fact, its very similar to how you responded to Americanyouth's post.
  10. This is probably a dumb question.. But where's fox? I have seen him online since this whole fiasco started. Why no guidance?
  11. In retrospect, I suppose you're right.. I guess I have just been lucky 10-12 times in a row
  12. yup.. the ones I have seen still had the cracks between the valves.. they weren't as ugly though.
  13. Ack.. everything is a Coke here.. except for the few that call it a soda.. I say Pop and everyone looks at me like I'm from another planet.
  14. If they are original heads, they run about a 75% chance of being gen III heads on the 89 (Based on my experience) The 87 will have gen II You can use either heads on either motor. It is very likely that the 89 and 87 heads have the silly little cracks between the valves. I have only seen 2 sets of EA82T heads that didn't have them.. and both sets were still shiny and fresh out of the box.
  15. Nope.. You just made it a substantially more drawn out process than necessary. I just put a new distributor in my wagon last night, after having the timing belts off at the same time.. I will vouch 100% for the fact that the way I said works. Total time for removal and replacement of T-belts and distributor- 45 minutes. Runs great now;) EDIT. I must reiterate that it is a good idea to follow up with connecting the diagnostic connectors and using a timing light. That will allow you to fine tune as needed.
  16. Doh.. you are absolutely right.. time to lose the volvo and the camry. Its messing up my soob skills
  17. Close, but not quite.. Not all the 5 speed L-series came D/R. Many were single range. And I don't think any XTs came D/R
  18. No, but if the disty has already been pulled, you will need to follow the above process in order to know where the new one goes in.
  19. If you want it bad enough and have the skills, anything will fit. Look in the recent steering wheel threads for advice about the impreza hub. The seats will fit if you are handy with a welder.
  20. Either or all of the above plus head gasket. Head gasket would actually be at the bottom of my list. Feeze plug would just drain the water on the ground from the outside of the motor, not into the crank case My vote would be for cracked case/block
  21. So the disty is already out? Is this on your loyale or the Audi you were referring to earlier? If its on the loyale, its easy. (If its the Audi, its off to OT with you) Turn the crank (22mm socket on the crank pulley) until you get to the timing morks on the flywheel. Line up the pointer on the 20 BTDC mark. drop disty in so it points at number 1 spark plug wire. Install the 2 10mm bolts that hold disty down. Install cap. car should run. To make sure its prefect, connect diagnostinc connectors under the hood and time to 20BTDC with a light. Last EA82 disty I changed took less than 10 minutes. Some cars are even easier.. My volvo disty is idiot proof. It only goes in one way.
  22. Brads car is a polished turd on wheels EDIT: Damn Brad, that is low.. Mine measured out at 6.5 under the rear diff.
