  1. That would be next on my list before the car ever got another cent. (and people wonder why it has taken me 6 months to do mine.)
  2. My IC to TB hose is a combination of legacy parts and Ford SHO parts :-\ The small hose on the plenum is for the aux air valve. Its a controlled vacuum leak that helps the idle when the car is cold. Don't put a breater on it. If you aren't going to hook it up, plug it off.
  3. You can use the legacy front knuckle and strut, but you still need the XT6 control arms and rear disc parts.
  4. As far as I know, that doesn't apply to the older soobs. I went from auto to manual and did nothing but bypass the neutral safety switch, which has nothing to do with the ECU
  5. I don't blame you.. Just figured I would throw it out as an option if you couldn't get anything better for now.
  6. Not bad. I still like the green Gen 1 STi brat better though
  7. Dammit.. that sucks. Getting the valves is easy.. getting them with the recirc elbow on them is a pain in the butt. If you don't mind having one with no recirc elbow, try here: http://www.fi-systems.com Last time I was there, they had a box of them.. takeoffs from upgrades.. Would probably let one go cheap. If shipping is a problem for them, I can always go pick it up for you and send it myself. they are only about 10 minutes from me.
  8. The fuel flow as calcualted by the ECU is not an exact science. under full boost, it runs rich anyway. So theres a little bit of leeway between full rich and lean. Enough leeway to go past fuel cut anyway.
  9. That is correct. Neither the bellhousing nor the turbo is a direct bolt in. However, as Brian said, a bellhousing adapter can be made. A new exhaust system can be made as well. Some creative use of WRX exhaust parts will help a lot.
  10. Motor mounts are pretty close tranny is not even close turbo, if you want one will have to have all new exhaust stuff done.. stock RX turbo is too small anyway wiring harness and ECU will have to be swapped. You have a lot of work ahead of you. Hope you have some factory service manuals.
  11. As has been stated above, the lack of recirc valve was cheaper.. additionally, it isn't needed on the stock setup. The extremely small amount of air between the turbo and the TB can be easily handled by the dash pot. As far as popularity.. you are just in the wrong part of the country. Go to boulder. Go to seattle. The old EA82 turbo soobs are still common.. 10 years ago they were extremely common. But again, as was stated, they were not part of the racing scene.. they were not really intended to go fast.
  12. The WRX Intercooler has the bypass valve attached to it.. A blow off valve is strictly for rice. looks like you have a pretty good handle on what you want to do. Although I think that to get in the 200+hp range, you are going to need some engine management. One thing I didn't see on your list is exhaust. If you get a TD04, this will be a requirement. Even if you don't get a TD04, you will be kinda wasting your time if you don't put a better exhaust system on there. Cams - meh.. I'm not convinced. In my experience with turbo cars, often times the best balance between torque and top end is very near what the stock profile offers.
  13. My mistake.. wrong link Try this www.ccrengines.com
  14. Yup^^ For normal people in their garages, I always recommend pulling the motor.. But if you have a lift and a tranny jack, just pull the trans. Faster and easier.
  15. Not bad.. I think I paid $170 for a stock clutch kit. $200 for a kit with 40% more holding power is very acceptable to me.
  16. I am currently using one gen 1 head on my wagon. I have been using it for the past 2-3 years, with some pretty hard miles on it and it has given me no problems.
  17. A dealership may actually be better in regard to negotiations. Chances are they don't have more than $250 into it. They may be very happy to get $750 for it.
  18. That doesn't make any sense.. My books say SPFI is 9.5:1 Pistons between carb and SPFI are different part numbers EA82 CR is based completely on piston shape. Does anyone out the have an 87 FSM with carb info in it?
  19. So I guess I'm in trouble with my carb shortblocked turbo motor with the TD04 on it eh? BTW, Turbo motors are 7.7:1. I was under the impression that the Carb motor was 8.5:1. Anyone here with an 87 FSM that could give me a definite answer? My 88 and 89 FSMs don't have any carb info.
