  1. Started a thread on it today. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=117982
  2. I've only seen exterior pics of a Turbo EA81 of any model, no clues to what's under the hood of one. Well besides the obvious turboed EA81. I feel so left out........
  3. ( had to edit pic as original didn't work no more) This is the Wagon I picked up 11-20-10. Got's lots of work to do to get it back on the road, but I'll get r done. Good clean body, way better than anything I could get around these parts. Not sure of what engine I have here that will wind up in it, just know it will have the D/R 5-speed in it. Got everything here to do an XT6 5-lug swap on it, so thinking that will happen. Played around out in the garage today to make room for it. I'm way that it actually fits and I can walk around it. Now, just waiting for parts to get here for my heater so I can be toasty warm wrenching on it. But I'll do some playing with it until then, just not much.... One thing I'm POed at myself for doing, is getting rid of the '88 GL10 FWD Wagon we had here, before I got this one home. I find I be needing things that I could've snagged from it. Oh well, "stuff occurs"!!!! I'll make do in the meantime. Major Kudo's to boxerbob for allowing me to get this from him for "FREE"!
  4. ""BRATs (Brumbys) were standard in Australia with a crank driven mechanical fan."" I, did not know that. Don't recall ever reading about that setup before either. My 1st thought when reading the opening post was, someone has swapped an EA82 engine in there. Didn't know about the difference in the climate controls either. I learned something.
  5. 1 & 2. May find answers here. http://www.suberdave.com/USMB/HTKYSA.PDF 3. No direct replacement rocker is available for the BRATs. Have read on here that one from another model can be "made to fit". That's one I have yet to try, but am in serious need of doing, to both of mine... 4. http://www.indysworld.com/80s/general/USRM/domelight/domelight.htm There is no cure for the affliction. My Wife surely wishes there was one though. I currently own 2, and have owned 3 others in the past 9 or so years. I am so wanting MORE!!!!
  6. Welcome to the Board!!! I realize things are done differently in other Country's, but I don't recall ever hearing of a BRAT with a mechanic fan as orginal equipment.. One electric fan for non A/C, and two electric ones for A/C is the norm for the States. I would swap in another thermostat, from Subaru, to begin with. Radiator is 20 some years old, if it's the original one. Could be it's clogged up some. New one is preferred over trying to clean the one in there now. A mild overheat shouldn't do any damage to the engine. As long as it was just for a short period of time. Long period of time spent with it in the Red, would be a different story. There is an idle-up system on these for A/C equipped vehicles. If you have A/C, it could be the cause of the high idle, if you have the selector set for Defrost. Just a few things off the top of my head there.... Would be nice to see pics of under the hood....
  7. The 2 EA82 short blocks I have here both have a B and UP on the pistons. One block is a carb model, other is SPFI.
  8. White wire = Main battery feed, 12V+ Blue wire = Acc feed to fuse box; heater blower, radiator fan Black w/white wire = starter Black wire = main ignition feed to fuse box; headlights, fuel pump, ignition
  9. The "check engine light" does not flash the codes. The ECU has a light on it that flashes the codes. Not positive here, but thinking that you can clear any codes by disconnecting the battery for awhile.
  10. Just got back home from a roughly 500 mile round trip to get the '88 Wagon from BoxerBob. Got lots to do to it to get it drivable again, but it's a good solid platfrom to start with, unlike the last '88 Wagon I had.
  11. There is one Tee on the HH as is now. You could remove that one to source a proper sized one. You will need 2 Tee's total when you do this. The one on there now, plus the additional one. If you foresee a trip to the local salvage yard in your future, you could snag one out of another so equipped Subaru.
  12. You should be able to get the 'Tee' at your local parts store, or a trip to the local salvage yard. No real need to hit the stealership....
  13. All you need to do is remove the HH assembly itself, and install a 'Tee' fitting in it's place. You need to re-route the existing brake lines abit by carefully bending them. Then bleed the brakes. I've done it that way myself.
  14. Think all 3 of use summitted our replies at the same time, (even if the time stamp says otherwise). Had a major slow-down going when I hit the send button.
  15. No actual fuel pump relay, there's a Fuel Pump Control Unit, FPCU. Mounted on the kickpanel, above the hood release. Should be Black with a 6 place connector. Works off disty signals saying that the engine is running, also feeds the choke power feed. I'm not 100% convinced that it actually powers the fuel pump during cranking of the starter. Mainly 'cause the floatbowl should have sufficient gas in it to start the engine, therefore not really needing the pump to run, unlike a FI system. GD has commented on many posts concerning this. So a search of FPCU and GD should get you some good info.

Member on here did that. He has a thread about it, somewhere on here. Has a motorcycle engine/trans under the hood if I 'members correctly.
  17. Thinking I just found what the Wife is getting me for Christmas. Now, just to convince her of that idea.....
  18. Low output usually indicates bad alt due to worn brushes/comutator/wiring issues. High output usually is sign of bad regulator. Other issues arise when the diodes/rectifier is going bad.
  19. Yeah. Lower inside corner is NOT the place to put those. Grrrr....

I like the 4.3 idea. Less weight than a V8, and quite a bit of room to get more out of it in torque and horsepower. The '91 GMC Sonoma ST I had, (then Rich owned, was the one he got burnt in), was awesome. I got it from the 2nd owner, and they had done work on the auto trans to make it shift "nicer", as in "not slam into the next gear". Damned thing would still roast the tires thru all gears into drive, and then some. You definetly didn't want to have your foot into the go pedal going around a curve and have it shift gears, you were instanly sideways. And it was a basic stock motor, nothing fancy that we found during the rebuild of it. Always said the ST on the side of it stood for "Spins Tires".
  21. quote from TheLoyale, 2" Convex Mirror. $1.97 at Wal-mart. end quote... The '85 BRAT has some rectangular ones on the side mirrors, from a PO. I hates them....... Right in the spot I want to look in to see where I'm backing into. Been better in the upper inside corner in my opinion.
  22. Sent the rusted out hulk of the White '86 BRAT to the scrappers. Guy is to be back for what's left of the '88 Wagon. Threw some odds-n-ends junk into both of them, don't look so much like a salvage yard around here now. Wife be,
  23. Chill down... Not everyone knows the correct way to measure rims.
  24. Haven't priced a Subby trans around these parts, so no idea on that. Pretty sure I could swap one out for him though. Guy said the car was a theft recovery. So who knows what all was abused...
  25. I'll let him know if/when he stops back by here. Hmmm.. Maybe I can get a decent price on it. Get me an EJ and sell off the shell. Yeah right...
