  1. I've got some friends who have an 04 or 05, and they like them. You may want to ask on NASIOC http://forums.nasioc.com/forums There's going to be more people that are going to have them.
  2. Not sure about the IAC valve error. It's possible it needs to be replaced. As for the 5-pin vs. 4-pin. It shouldn't matter. The Black JECS MAF sensors on the 90-91's I believe had the 5-pins, and then in 92 they went to 4-pin. The reasoning is due to because the first gen legacy had two different MAF sensors. The ECU detects when the incorrect MAF sensor is used by having an extra pin on the MAF that grounds. I believe on the JECS MAF sensor with 5 pins, that pin is not really hooked up to anything. They probably went to the 4-pin setup to save money...or whatever. I've used 4 & 5 pin JECS MAF sensors without any problem.
  3. if it's like the previous gen legacies, you have to take out the cover/metal piece that the ashtray slides into. On mine, there's one screw in the back and two screws that face upwards.
  4. What is the condition of the transmission fluid? It could be that it's so contaminated, that the internal screen is getting plugged up, as it runs and fluid circulates. When you shut it off, fluid comes back down and back flushes the screen. You can try replacing the fluid. It may or may not work. Either way, I wouldn't expect much more life out of the tranny without a rebuild.
  5. Pull the ECU codes. What year is your impreza? If it's OBD1, the instructions on my site for the legacy should work for your impreza www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/engine.html Otherwise if it's OBD2, take it to autozone to have the codes pulled.
  6. some additional pics http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru/images/injectors/
  7. I can't comment on the internal configuration of the pump, and whether there's a check valve. But yes, the pump (in some way) and the fuel pressure regulator would be the devices that are going to maintain pressure after the engine is turned off.
  8. Yeah...combination meter is the instrument panel/gauge cluster. Yeah....does sound like it's the meter, I don't think the cable would be causing this. Like I said, to remove the instrument gauge cluster, you have to remove the black trim around it. There are some hidden screws, and you will probably have to pop out the vents and switches to get at all the screws. You also will probably either have to remove the two bolts that hold the steering column to the dash so the steering wheel lowers. This will give you enough clearance to get the black trim piece out. The other option is to remove the steering wheel.
  9. I don't know of it being a common problem....however that doesn't mean it is. Which dealer did you take it to? I'd recommend asking in the legacy forum on NASIOC to see if the guys over there seem to think it's a common problem. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums
  10. The 92 ECU "should" work fine on the 93. I'd suggest asking on www.bbs.legacycentral.org
  11. You may need a new thermostat, but you may have other issues as well. I'd start with the thermostat and go from there. It's located on the underside of the engine, and you do need to drain the coolant in order to get at it.
  12. I had a very similar problem with my car when it was still AT. Scared the crap out of me. It only happen once or twice. I replaced the CV axles (which were questionable) and never had a problem again. So I'd probably recommend you replace the axle(s) and see if that fixes your problem.
  13. Welcome. Yeah I'd think pressure shouldn't go right to 0 after you shut off the car. Your gas cap is on and working properly right? When you installed the pump, everything went back together ok? BTW, how much did you pay for the carquest pump?
  14. May want to post in the meet & greet forum....as well as maybe the NE regional forum on nasioc http://forums.nasioc.com/forums
  15. What's your exact problem with the speedo? To get at the combination meter you have to remove the black plastic trim. However you may not have to do that.....but it'd be nice to know what your exact problems are.
  16. OEM? www.subarugenuineparts.com www.1stsubaru.com www.subaruparts.com
  17. First, the temp sensor is driven off of the ECU. I'm pretty sure the ECU sensor in the same spot as the 2.2, which is in the coolant crossover on the passenger side of the engine. It's under the intake manifold. Here's some pics that may help http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru/images/injectors/
  18. What year impreza? Have you stumbled across my AWD & 5MT swap write up? www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/swap May want to post in the retrofitting forum.
  19. For the most part, all the engines are physically swapable. The wiring is probably going to be different, and that's where you run into issues of having to wire up the proper sensors. We never got the 1.6l in the states. Is it carburated or fuel injected?
  20. You should be able to just use a blanking plate if you want to go with a single DIN head unit. I'm sure you can find some pics of different stereo setups on http://forums.nasioc.com/forums
  21. Did it look like a custom color? If so, then you probably won't be able to find the color code easily
  22. Yeah, you don't use the arrow on the front of the crank gear. The notch you use is in the rear. These pics might help http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru/images/timingbelt/
  23. I had an intermittant MAF sensor that would cause stalling/loss of power, and in some instances, the car not running.
