  1. It sure is, look for the thread titled "So I uh, rolled my car today" I did it on Anderson Butte last month and it's in front of Northwest Automotive for a stalling problem right now.
  2. Got to work fine today, but stalled in the middle of an intersection and wouldn't restart at all so me and 75skunkaroo towed it to Northwest Auto. I'm going to let a certified pro handle this one. Fuel pump is probably dead
  3. First off, my hood has been off the last few days getting painted, so the engine has been getting rained on. That said, this morning I started the car up (83 carbed EA81 GL) let it get warm for 8 minutes and drove to work where it idles for a few minutes, no problems. Then I got back onto the road, revved it to about 4200 in 1st (trying to stay with the work convoy) and as soon as I got into 2nd gear the car lost power, like I went through a deep puddle or something. I immediately pulled into the nearest parking lot and the car stalled. I restarted it several times, but it would just stall out unless I pushed the gas all the way down, I only revved to 3K like that and it would not idle at all. Oil level was fine, plenty of gas. So I left it and came back after work. Turned the car on, stalled, turned on again and it held 1500 rpm but stalled when I pushed the gas slightly. Carb and distributor cap looked fine, no water. A few more starts and stalls and I just let it run at 1500 for a little while. Now I could rev it normally and it was a little rough and "poppy", but stayed on. I drove it about 3/4 mile in 1st, 3100 rpm and after that it was fine, idling smoothly. I have some ideas: fuel pump; Is it the kind that runs off the crankshaft, and would only give enough fuel at higher rpms if it were going out? Fuel filter; I did roll the car, maybe some crap got clogged in it, then dislodged? That's all I can think of, what do you folks think? (the hood's on it now too)
  4. This is one of the things that gets me so exited I have trouble inhaling. I've wanted a Suby body so bad for this little Tamiya 4WD toy I have. If I can find some 1-2mm plastic sheets I could make a hard one to go on it!!! update: got the body built, tomorrow I will paint it the same color as my wagon and mount it to the shassie! hooray for me
  5. Wait a sec..... are these EJ low range transmissions a true 4WD thing or are they all wheel drive?
  6. When I move down to Tuscon (mid 2007 I hope?) I am going to build a lifted d/r Loyale:headbang:
  7. If you could cut a big hole for the V8 in the floor of the back of the Suby (assuming it's a wagon) then have some beefy square piping welded to the unibody to hold it in place, and you could figure out how to connect that to your transmission from behind, that would be cool. You'd have a better weight distribution, and you could say "Hey, check out the V8 in my Subaru". OK, bear with me here. It possible to make gears 1-5 be reverse gears, so that you could mount the transmission backwards, then plug it into the forward facing rear of the V8, for a mid engine 4WD setup? does that make sense? it does in my brain. I guess with all the work needed for that you might as well just put a Suby shell on a Suburban frame and call it good!
  8. Somehow my (right side?) timing belt skipped a tooth and stripped the cam pulley, with only 6017 miles on it. Soobme has that car now.
  9. he was a total party pooper and jumped out before we even got 10 feet;)
  10. I was trying to clean up this monster of a mess of wires where my stereo would be, cutting off the wires that weren't plugged into anything, but it looks like I must have cut one or 2 too many. Now my radiator fan doesn't come on at all and it overheats a little during prologned idle (some one previously rigged it so the fan is on whenever the key is in the 'on' position) I thought since there are so many wires under there and complicated electric thingies scare me I could just hook the fan's ground to the body and the power to the switch that used to turn on my rear lights? That way my car could warm up a little quicker and I could just hit a button when the temp goes above normal. Is this a good idea or a bad idea? Oh yeah and also I think that the thermostat has been bypassed or removed so the coolant is always flowing through the radiator, it was an offroad toy after all.
  11. I got one to fly over a curb once. Then I threw it in the back and drove it to the store it some bum swiped it from!
  12. While this dude was rocking his truck back and forth he was giving me a heart attack. I thought those tires might bite in and destroy the back end of my car (imagine a Chevy V8 fully floored at 5000+ rpm, wheels spinning forward, about 2-3 feet behind your car) "then about crashes into my car within like an inch" <-- and that is not an exageration check back for pIkZ!!!!!1
  13. Getting some 15 inch wheels is another not too expensive option. I run 205/70/R15s but then my fender wells are cut out too
  14. It comes and goes on the dash, not blinking, not staying on for more than a few minutes. What's up?
  15. Yeah, or maybe his cat is clogged or something. I always kept my Loyale between 2 and 3K. What was the last car you drove?
  16. Don't worry, I just have to have it gone from my house by Wednesday. I'm positive I can stuff it somewhere else for a few more days. Today Wheat Beer Man hooked me up with a free radiator and alternator and we got them installed. Later, when I broke the lock off the trunk (no key) I found ...... can you guess?...... thats right, a radiator and alternator
  17. See the crappy pics. I need to know what to connect the two indicated wires to. Extra thanks if you save the pic and repost with arrows pointing to the right spots:grin:
  18. Well, I pulled the car to my house today. I started to pull it forward until I noticed the car wasn't turning so I had to undo the ignition lock and wow, a Subaru would be amazingly easy to steal. Anyways, rear bumpers are not very strong because I broke the tops off with a tow strap, car in neutral e brake off. The brakes work. Went and got 2 new radiator hoses (82 can have mine) and some coolant. I told my mom and stepdad I would have it gone within 3 days, they aren't to fond of me having 3 cars parked in front of the house:D.
  19. pretty good, IMO. I flat blacked the bumpers, took off the rack, pounded the frame more or less back into shape, got the window in, fixed some paint and filled up 30 drill holes with bolts for a "rivet" look. I'll get some pics when I'm done:headbang:
  20. I didn't *see* any major rust, but there's some mild surface rust on the body, the underside is blocked by grass so I can't tell
  21. Jack, if I had a few hundred lying around I'd be all for a USMB cross country roadtrip, cause roadtrips rock hardcore. But I don't. One very important thing I forgot: the engine *probably* needs 1 or both headgaskets
  22. From what I hear about 3ATs, I'd be scared to take one on the freeway;) If I have the time after work on Monday I'll see about getting a battery and hoses in it, see how it drives. From the looks of it, a weekend of elbow grease should net someone a dang nice car, sure wish I had room
  23. Last week this guy who lives around the corner from me was asking me about my Ru and said he had a sedan that I could have (too many cars.) I don't have room or time for another so if anyone wants it, it's theirs! 1982 GL, front wheel drive, automatic, manual locks/windows, EA81. He says it runs but it will need radiator hoses and a battery, and the ignition switch is missing but can be started with a screwdriver. I looked at it today and it's pretty decent (for the price) Interior is 99% there and is filthy. Last registered in 1999. Engine, carb, distributor look usable, can't remember miles but less than 180K. A few minor problems. It's right around the corner so I can check specifics/take pics if anyone's interested. I'll get the VIN later as well.
  24. The day after I got my 83 GL 4-Hi stopped working; pull the lever, green light comes on, cluth out and no go. It was just like being in neutral. 4-Lo has always worked fine. Ever since I rolled it, 4-Hi works, but the green light stays on when in FWD (was afraid to drive it after the snow melted a few days ago, thinking it was in 4WD). I did replace the dual range shifter and noticed when you push it into 2WD the bottom of it pushes in a little button that has a wire on it going under the carpet. Is this what tells the dash lights when to turn on? I pushed and pulled on it but the 4WD light stays on no matter what.
