I would think that a Drift Punch would get stuck easier 'cause of the tapered end. I was using a nail punch.

My BRAT Build Up Thread
Update: So I've got the Legacy seats installed & all the interior painted, but not put back together yet 'cause I still have to swap out transmissions. I have been working on the rear end though. Swapping out the open diff for an LSD one, replacing the drum brakes with disk brakes. While doing this I discovered that the driver's side rear wheel bearing was toast so I've got to put a new set in. Also I had a lot of trouble removing the pin from the outer end of the axle. So I'm working on removing that too. Then I'm going to rebuild the axle. After I get all of that back together I'll replace the transmission then get the interior put back together and finally paint those beautiful bumpers and skid plate. Here are a few photos of my current progress: Just so you know the punch is stuck.

You are correct. U.S. BRAT's only came with 4WD 4-speed transmissions.

Can I fit a 1981 BRAT front cross member on the frame of a 1977 GL Coupe frame? I'm trying to update the drive train of my 1977 coupe to EA81 running gear.- gen 1 roll call

Bump for cool old thread!- My new 1977 sport coupe
I agree with you on the grill. Someone was using my tow dolly last weekend so I couldn't pick it up yet, but I should be grabbing it in the next day or so. Then I'll start making a list of parts I need. I'm sure I'm going to need a ton, and I'm sure they are going to be super hard to find. That's why I love restoring these old Subarus. It's the thrill of the hunt (not to mention that they are way cool looking too). I also think it's going to look super cool with this little number I picked up the other day too: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=122735 Any help for you fellow old schoolers is greatly appreciated.- My new 1977 sport coupe

I can't tell you how many 1st & 2nd Gen Subaru's I've had to do this with.- big brat in portland
I know this BRAT. It did belong to a guy out in Beaverton. He had it in the paint shop the same time I had my '81 BRAT. He bought a set of BRAT stripes from me and a couple other decals too. We did some horse trading for so other Subaru stuff too. He sold it about 6 months ago and the guy who bought it contacted me to install the BRAT decals, but I haven't heard from him since. It is a very clean BRAT, and I know the sale of the BRAT came with all the stuff to do an EJ22 swap.- My new 1977 sport coupe
I'll have to get you guys some more details on the car once I pick it up this weekend. We'll get this figured out. All I know right now is that it has a single carb EA71 motor with a 5-speed transmission. Oh, and a flat tire.- BRAT Meet 2011 - Leavenworth
Too far away for me and my BRAT. You guys have a good time and take lots of photos.- 1st gen lowering
