gen 1 roll call
1978 Subaru BRAT Swapped EA81 in Swapped 4sp D/R 4WD in Exhaust exiting out the fender We also put several other random subaru part on too. I just can't remember it all. It was pulled from a field. The guy I bought it from was parting it out, so I ended up with a stripped down BRAT with a bed full of crappy parts. Things I'm working on are swapping the rear end out to an EA81 set up so the I can put my SJR lift on it. I have a set of super swampers on pug steel rims and I'm still toying with the idea of putting a propane powered EJ22 in it.

This is not my BRAT. I just like to save interesting car images and remembered that I came across this one on here a few months ago. Hope this helps.

I told you to stop letting your boy drive. Every time it's the same result, BANG right into a tree.

The power is great. I only wish I could get it to hook up. That's why I'm looking into switching to an AWD set-up. Sometime I have to put it in 4WD high to get a good launch in wet weather and up a hill, but man it's fun. I can't wait to take it up to the snow. I'm not too sure on the mileage 'cause my speedometer is off due to the larger tires, but I think I'm getting about 30 to 32 to the gallon.

Actually it needs to be longer. (just so you know). I've done this same swap into my hatch. I just used all XT6 clutch and bearings with an EA82 flywheel, and I've had no problems yet. I think I've got like 3,000 miles on it now.

EJ22 to EJ25
I know that Mellow65 did this swap in his Legacy Rally car. I think he used a phase 2 EJ25 in it. I know he had some sort of issue with the cold start switch, but other then that he used the EJ22 wiring harness. I'd ask him though, he'd lead you in the right direction.

ya, a little. I had to use a hammer to pound down the metal around the hole to get the speaker to sit a little lower.

You can see some photos with the link at the bottom of the page in my tag. I think they were 6" speakers, but I had to do a little grinding to get them to fit.- Roll Call for Offroad Rigs 2008
Man I did the same thing at WCSS9 with my SPFI motor. Thanks to a little help for some good Subaru friends we got it out of the huge mud puddle and back to camp where I used some gorilla tape to block off the holes and then I turned my airbox on it's side and continued to mud.- AWD Convertion in my Hatch?
Hell ya that would be cool. You or at least I still need to buy axles, clutch, flywheel and a drive line after getting the rear end & the transmission. I could make up some of the money by selling my EA82 5sp Transmission with Jerry's kit and a drive line to someone interested in doing that swap into their Brat or Hatch. I'm going to keep the EJ swap stuff for my 78 BRAT.- AWD Convertion in my Hatch?
I'd hate to go through the cost and trouble of installing an RX transmission and not get the results I'm looking for. So at this point I should start looking in the direction of swapping an EJ transmission in. I know it's going to be a lot more work and money, but in the end it will be worth it.- AWD Convertion in my Hatch?
I was also talking with Matt and he was saying that the RX transmission wouldn't hook up as good as the EJ transmission. (traction wise) I just want my hatch to go when I take off, not just spin out.- lifting 91 Legacy Wagon
I have Weather Force Tires on my Hatch and Blizzaks on my Outback. If I were you I'd get the Blizzaks. They are worth the extra money. Not to say that the Weather Forces are crap, but I've been very impressed with the Blizzaks in the snow. Also if you can find Forester suspension I'd used that. It will give you and extra inch or so over the Outback stuff.- AWD Convertion in my Hatch?
so swapping out the stubs on the front diffs would not work?- '82 Brat: Solid Axle Build *** DONE! :) ***
your intake system looks like a propane intake system.- AWD Convertion in my Hatch?
I've got Jerry's kit so I don't think the shifters will be a problem. Aren't the EA82 axles longer then the EA81 axles? Do you think I could swap the stubs from my 5sp 4WD front diff over to the RX front diff or will the extra length on the axles matter?- AWD Convertion in my Hatch?
I thought that the turbo hubs were the same as n/a hubs, but the difference being the spline count on the transmission stubs.- AWD Convertion in my Hatch?
How easy is it to find an RX transmission?- AWD Convertion in my Hatch?
I have a 1982 Subaru Hatchback with an EJ22 swap. What I'd like to do is to convert the drivetrain to AWD. Right now I have and EA82 D/R 5 speed 4WD in it. So What I'd like to do is make a list of everything I need to get for the swap so I can start to stock pile all the parts to do the swap this spring. That's where you guys come in. thanks, earl- Brat Go Cart shells.
I bet that it's plastic.- Project EJ Hatch
Well it's time to do some more work to the hatch. I'm going to add some power steering. I just got the rack and cross member from the junkyard the other day. Now I need to tear it down and rebuild it and paint it. I'll post some photos along the way. I'm also going to install some small 1" blocks between the frame and the cross member to help with the camber issue.- Roll Call for Offroad Rigs 2008
