Easy swap??? WRONG!!! The two wiring harnesses are totally different. Bolting the parts in is no problem, they are identical in that respect. I don't know why Jon suggested a Legacy engine, there were Imprezas with 2.2s in 95 and earlier. Subaru did something really strange when it came to wiring up the two cars. For the 1.8 there is a unique wiring harness, but for the 2.2, the harness looks almost exactly like a Legacy harness. I found this out when I did the conversion on my 96 Impreza, believe me, I was very surprized. For example, to convert a 1.8 to a JDM EJ20G, you need to splice 27 wires into the 1.8 harness, but for a 2.2, you need to splice 52 wires, major diffrerence. I would think it would be easier, and less hazzle to find a 2.2 95 Impreza.

Well first I'd have to find a 360 that the body wasn't worth restoring and the running gear was good. Then I wouldn't do it in fiberglass, it would probably be aluminum or steel. I once worked (parttime in the summer) at MarLin Ski boats (later renamed to Skegin (sp?) Boats), I have many hours of experience of prepping molds for fiberglassing, laying the glass and spreading the epoxy. To do it right I'd first have to create a mold, and that is not an easy task. It would be much easier to create it out of sheet metal.

Well, just saying friend at U didn't tell me much, which U?? I have friends at the UofW, WSU, WWU, UCLA, and several other U's. If you are refering to Dr. Seal, I believe he has retired, but I do have his phone number. I'm not sure if the car in question is in Subaru's hands, it seems like it is in a private parties hands, not someone at Subaru, so I'm not sure his connection would help. So let's see, there are how many millions of people in Japan? And only one of them owns the car, gee talking about a needle in a hay stack. Someone from Subaru must know who the car was sold to since is was a prototype, so that is where I would start.

First, it appears that there were two of these made, but it appears only one is still around. Second, who you talking to?? Whos's buddy in the U???

Looks like I need to make another trip to Japan and find the car, someone over there must know where it is. I'll bet if I ask his wife, she'll give it to me.

The answer is NO!!!!!!, but it will be painted Rally Blue. Found some more info, this is a MS Word document, so you'll probably need MS Word to open it. http://corkysrocks.net/Subaru Sports.doc . It's in Japanese, I wish I could read it.

Well, I have started a search for a new Subaru holy grail, here is a picture.

The easy part is that it will bolt right in, the hard part is the wiring. It is possible to install this set up using the complete front wiring harness and ECU from a 91 to 94 Legacy Turbo. The engine will run, and for most people will probably work just fine, but if you are looking for performance, you'll probably have to add some other engine management electronics.

There are only a few car that (unless the orginal unit was replace) will have LSD rear diff, those are RXs and 89 GL-10 Turbos with Fulltime 4WD manual trannies. Those are guarantees, all other 4WD are suspect since it could be purchased as a option.

Check out what i came across today!!!!

Gees Morgan, I'm surprized, Robin is the small engine division of FHI, the parent company of Subaru, they make all sizes of industrial type gasoline engines. This is exactly what I need to keep in the trunk of my car in case I run out of gas. -
Boy that's a new one for me, I thought the only year the auto was an option on the RX was 89. BTW, an auto will not have a LSD rear diff. Can you check the data plate, if the build date is 9/88 or later, it is a 89 model year car.

Well let me see, he said it was a sedan, now to me, that would mean 4 door, but I have heard of a 2 door sedan, but in teh case of Subarus, I would expect that sedan means 4 doors, since 2 doors are usually refered to a coupes.

I know exactly how you feel, I wish that I had a dollar for every time I type something here that was misinterpreted, I'd be able to buy a new STi. My grandma, no way, my mom, no even, sister, maybe. -

I'm confused, first you state it is a manual tranny, and SVX's didn't come with manual trannies, then you said you put it in drive, that sounds like an automatic. So what is it a manual or an automatic, unless you did a conversion, my vote is for an automatic. -
Man, too bad you are so far away, I could probably do the repairs for half that, will all new Subaru parts.

The axle shafts are not the same, but the inner joint will interchange.

See my post I made on NASIOC. The damage really doesn't look that bad, how is the radiator???
-
That almost looks as bad as a reddish brown hatchback with a yellow right front fender and a blue rear hatch.

EA82 86 OHV Carb -> 88 OHC SPFI
Dr. RX replied to singletrack's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
First never trust a Haynes manual, they are usually wrong. Secondly Craig is correct, all EA82s are OHC engines, just because it is an 86 doesn't mean that it is an EA82, there were also EA81 and EA71 available in certain models that year. I believe that there is still an EA series engine built for certain countries. -
Nice lift kit, but what does that have to do with the hatch stuck in the mud???
