86 gl 3at spfi sputters on accel
Skip replied to dude_4_sale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
A couple RWAGs (Random Wild A$$ Guesses) do have a way to test the TPS?? (Throttle Position Sensor) It may not be telling the ECU the throttle is open. (Engine Control Unit) Are we sure the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve is not getting a signal to open and /or it is not stuck open? l l l v Don't ya hate when people use "(<-->)"'s -
many many tow motors are propane fired. They have a setup that works with the carb (not EFI) Bet the setup would work on a Brat hey come to think about it I have a tow motor propane set up on the shelf and a Brat with a rusty gas tank -ahhhheemmmm?? BTW The downunder gang are the ones you want to ask this to.
-
okay pierman you know what there is to know now I will simply get out of that box and add a semi rust free 88 SPFI dual range 4wd wagon has to be one of the all time best combos going. Good luck and many miles of smiles in your new Roo BTW, I am also a member of OFF** **Old Fart Farternity

You are correct and the "mechanic"?? is out to gouge you
-
again. Thanks Cuda, you are as they say Da'man Nate. real nice score please do some reading. There are no t-belts on an EA81.
-
If Autozone has timing belts for an EA81 well, okay. Good luck replacing them. You can down load HTKSA. You might want to read the chapter on engines.
-
She's a beaut! Nate but you are going to get some comments on this statement "working on getting the motor out to repalce head gaskets and timing belts" That is going to a TAll order for the parts person.

have you changed both fuel filters? The one under the car by the fuel pump often gets overlooked, it is the first line of defence. In reverse the tank is higher and the pump doesn't have to work as hard. Certified - WAG.

What's wrong with Fram oil filters??
Skip replied to TheLoyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Looks like Mike's correct or the study is wrong. Pennzoil PZ-1 This filter is a Fram Extra Guard (PH8A) in every way, shape, and form. The only difference is the yellow paint, the Pennzoil logo, and the cheaper price. All the measurements were exactly the same as the Fram Extra Guard PH8A. -

I just want to remind you fellows that at the bottom of this page you will find "Similar Threads" They can take the pain out of searching. Hope this helps -
"what does the rear wheel bering look like?" Your year Forester had an issue with the rear wheel bearings. The fix was to replace them with Legacy wheel bearings. The Impreza (same platform) also suffered this malady. Does the noise come from the rear, middle or the front of the vehicle? > front = CV joint > middle = torque bind > rear = wheel bearing Hope this helps?

I did the same test, same results. It's either the gear or the shaft/gear that turns the slot in the VSS fitting hole. Been told they should be replaced as a set. Local Suby tranny gruru says he's seen this mainly on cars used to deliver mail or newpapers?? Funny - mine was used to deliver our "Pennysavers". I did score a bunch of rubber bands from under the seats -LOL Note: I did not mention this before he told me the above.

Howdy Dan, I currently have the same problem only a bit worse. My 97 is OBD II and will not pass IM inspection as a result of the drive gear being knackered. (CEL on) Here is a webside with the best solution I have found. VSS signal generator Magnets on the DOJ with a reed switch have been used but.. This method uses a better set up to produce the square wave (Hall effect switch output) that the ECU is looking for. Good luck, PM me if you want to compare notes. Skip

Mike, look for the fine print on the box. The older boxes said Purolater, I bought a case of them a while ago. -
I agree. That reminds me, good grab of Jeremy for your avartar another show Speed dumped down the poop tube on us:^(

DON'T jack HERE!

thanks Dave -- that es'plaines it. -
I vote for Cougar's test. Rare for a fuel filter to get totally plugged. The FPR (Fuel Pump Relay) provide the positive battery to the FP anytime the ignition is on. The ECU then, when cranking or running completes the circuit to ground and the pump runs. If you test for the positive voltage at the connector you find above the pump and it ain't happenin'.... The FPR (or the power to it) must be the culprit. (There is no resistance in the power feed to the pump - it runs on battery voltage)

I guess what has me corn-fused (country bumkin speak) is how this solution solved this?? Dave said "I can also hear the noise faintly with the car stopped, out of gear, with the clutch released. When I put the clutch in, I can hear the sound 'wind down' and stop." -
Matty, here's good on ya mate, sounds very understandable BTW can you talk those knuckleheads on the Speed channel into bringing Jet Sprint boat racing back to us Yanks?? That is so way kewl, I don't know why they dropped it.

some girl form Spo told me Andy has a huge banana and he sure can make it dance.............. now I know what she was talking about!!! Congrats on the swap Cuda, thanks for the update.
