  1. Hey Tim, I sure hope your 5 speed d/r is faster than my auto. Today I actually decided to see what it would do top end. All she could manage was about 82 mph. I havent taken into consideration I'm running 185-80-13s so the speedo reads a little slow but still that is slow.Oh yeah I'm sending you an e-mail.
  2. I'm one of the little guys here at 6'0 and 200lbs. I actaully like the way I sit in my Brat. Seat all the way back and wheel in the middle position. I like driving with my knees bent a ways.
  3. 84 Turbo Brat-yes Thought about losing it but I'm planning to lift it with larger tires so I found a new to me pump(only $20)
  4. Hey Tim, that sounds like a great idea as long as you dont mind my eyesore in your group. I am going to e-mail you tonight to get directions.
  5. Well I guess that should teach me to open my mouth when I dont know what I'm talking about. Thanks for the free schooling everyone
  6. What drum brakes are self adjusting? I've never come across any that were. But I am planning the rear disk swap when funds become available. On the same note has anyone done a disk swap as simple as the one no these older Subes.Ive never seen one
  7. Ijust replaced the shoes on my rear brakes and must say I have never seen such wonderfully simple, yet effective drum brakes. They were done in half an hour. That is from the time I pulled my Brat into the shop to the time I drove it out. Just one more reason for me to love my Sube!
  8. I am no longer a maybe I will be coming to beautiful Iowa to meet some of the great folks I have met on this most wonderful site on the web.
  9. Hey Shawn, I just wanted to let you know that I have gotten the time off from work and I will be coming. If this is going to be an annual event maybe next year we could have it in the Black Hills of SD. Lots of off road trails there. Just an idea.I would love to help plan and set up something like this.
  10. Please gloat away. A Brat is a terrible thing to waste and a wonderful thing to have. Love mine.
  11. I personally would never take my vehicle back to an aoutomotive repair shop that says they dont rebuild carbs. Find a new mechanic.
  12. Beautiful!!!!! I am the owner of an 84 Turbo Brat and I must say they are great.Your location just says Ashland, is that in Montana. If so its nice to here from another EA81 owner in this area.If you want to do some off roading PM me and I could go there and have some fun. If you are not in Montana ignore everything past great.
  13. Thanks again for all the info. Sounds like I would be better off starting from scratch with a N/A EA81. I like the idea of having time to put things together slowly and accurately, plus I wouldn't lose my daily driver. Anyone out there going to the midwest meet have an EA81 for sale. I have attempted to deal with the salvage yards around here but they are all on crack($400.00 for a 4 speed d/r tranny) Anyone out there ever had any extrude honing done on intakes? USMB for life
  14. Thanks for the input on cams. As far as going the carb route I have one reason, the condition of the body isn't the greatest. Its fairly straight but the cancer is a coming. one rear wheel lip has a fair amount the rockers are rusting and the wheel wells are all but gone in the bed. I think it would cost me more to repair all of these problem areas correctly than it would be worth so I was thinking that I would do some fun upgrades build an N/A EA81 with a good cam and carb use my turbo heads up the compression to 9.5 to 1 and go with a 4 or 5 speed. If it really means that much to you guys make an offer and if its resonable you got yourself a Turbo Brat. USMB for life
  15. If I can get the time off of work I will be there. Will there be any off roading going on?
  16. Hey Shawn the EFI would go the way of the doedoe. A weber would be in its place. I know that EFI is supposed to be more efficient but I am something of a dinosaur,I like OHV and carbs. As far as the midwest meet goes I would very much like to take the Brat across the state into Iowa and meet some of the fine folks on this board.Time off of work is the only limiting factor right now but I'm working on that.
  17. Any one know where to get a higher lift cam for an EA81. Thinking of going N/A with my Turbo Brat getting the EA71 pistons with the turbo heads which I believe are supposed to flow better. Any ideas would be appreciated. USMB for life
  18. I was just curious if anyone knew if there was any noticeable gain in bottom end acceleration running the stock tire.My Brat has the autotragic trans in it wich makes bottom end power basicly non existant.Just wondering if the taller tires compounded the lack of bottom end power. I like the ride height of the tires I've got on it now I was actually thinking of cranking the suspension up a bit just cause it looks cool.
  19. I meant insult to injury
  20. I have the original doughnut in my 84 Brat and have used it on more than one once. I delivered pizza one night on my spare in the snow with no problems. It is a good idea to check your spare tire's air pressure on a regular basis. I check mine when I change the oil.It is an easy thing to overlook but a flat spare just adds injury to insult.I keep mine at 60 PSI.
  21. I need to get new tires soon and was wondering if anyone out there would know if there is any noticeable power gain from running a stock sized tire? I currently have 185-80-13 on my 84 turbo Brat. Should I stay with a taller tire or go stock? USMB for life.
  22. This might sound like a stupid question to all of you on the USMB, but today someone asked me why I love my Sube so much. I told the guy that my Brat is super reliable and on snowy roads I on a regular basis pass my share of Chevy,Ford,Dodge, totoya 4x4s without worry of my personal safety.I also told this guy that I've never had starting problems with my Subes. My N/A carbed 84 wagon started with no problems at -18 ambient air temp. I've never had a problem with my Turbo Brat starting either it was -12 yesterday morning and she whirred right over. So why do you all love em. Just curious. USMB for life
  23. I love my over head valve engines. I might have a dinosaur mentallity but I wont own OHC powered cars. I had one once a Nissan pickup had to change the chain gears tensioner and guides. Cost me over $200. and 10 hours of my life I'll never get back. As far as power the most powerful perfomance engine out there is an OHV. They dont have any longevity but what engine would making in the area of 7000 HP.
  24. I paid $1000. for my 84 Turbo Brat. Its got some cancer in one rear fender lip and a little (for this area) in the rockers. It also has twice the miles as yours and faded paint.
  25. This Board rules. Thanks to all once again for helping me.I'm pretty good with a wrench but I have a vacuum between my ears. Saturday I'm gonna disconnect the P/S pump (if it makes it till then) and hopefully pick up a few M.P.G. crossing my fingers. McBrat what are you gonna be asking for the Turbo Brat I've got one but two would be better.
