About 2 months ago I chased down a 84 Turbo wagon, its white with the billboard turbo strobe lettering on the side.Well there was a young teenaged girl driving it and I asked if it was for sale, she said her dad would probably sell it so I gave her my name and number.I had given up on getting a call but yesterday the guy called me and I am going to go and drive it this weekend.I am totally stoked at the idea of having 2 84 turbo subes in the driveway. My wife is happy for me but far from stoked.Fingers crossed that it doesn't get wrecked before then.Dave.

My sentiments exactly!

I drove my 84 Brat to the midwest meet which is about 500 miles each way.I did regular maintenence, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fluid changes. While getting out of the gumbo we all got stuck in I overheated my tranny 3 times, and damaged an axle.I had absolutely no problems on the way home going between 75 and 80.These rigs are alot tougher than alot of people give them credit for just because they are small.Do your general maintenence and you should be just fine.

I was insured by Omaha casualty for my Brat.I was dropped by them because they deemed my vehicle to be unsafe. My insurance agent had never seen my Brat so it wasn't due to its condition. The insurance agent said that there were dropping certain vehicles. That was all he told me.On the funny side he asked if I was going to get a different newer vehicle so I could keep my policy through them.

I just love the 83-84 Brats and wagons.Ive got an 84 turbo Brat, and I chased down an 84 turbo wagon with the big billboard turbo lettering on the side.I left a number with the girl who was driving it she said she would tell her dad because she thought he would sell but no call as of yet.I would say 83-84 Brat or wagon with the turbo motor.

On the way to the Midwest Mudhole Meet I stopped at Tim and Vickys house. They had never met or spoken to me.They invited me in,fed me,and let me crash on there couch.I have never met two nicer people.Tim and Vicky are a real class act.

It was at a used car lot and the salesman said it was well taken care of "just look how clean the engine is".He knew it was taken care of well but didn't have any service records on the car.I decided to pass on it and was just wondering if the EJ18 was an underpowered engine or if this Impreza was just beaten down.

I test drove a 96 Impreza with the 1.8 EJ engine today. It was a complete dog!I think my stock Turbo Brat could've stayed right next to it in a drag race.I am new to new gen Subes and am wondering if the 1.8s were under powered and how hard woould it be to put an EJ22 as I am picking one up next month.Thanks,Dave.

I am looking at a 96 Impreza at a used car lot and was wondering if there is anything perticular that I should be looking for as far as problems go.I need to get another vehicle so I can park my Brat and give it some much deserved attention. The lot wasn't open today so I only got to look at the car.It is a 2 door coupe with 5 speed and some nice looking after market wheels,AWD,with 116,000 miles. They want $3650.00.does that sound resonable.I'm used to old gen stuff, this would be my first newer Sube.Any help would be appreciated.Thanks,Dave.

I had the video camera and the footage is awful.I was driving and filming at the same time.If you want a copy I can transfer it to vhs and send it to you to see if you find anything worth editing and posting.I did get some good footage of shawn using a prybar to dig his wheel wells out.I did start pushing him after I shut the camera off.PM with your mailing address and I will try to get it out as soon as possible.Dave.

Tranny swap tips please
dave valiant replied to dave valiant's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks GD.The first thing I am going to do after I get the tranny out of the donor car is fix the sloppy shifter.I had to do that in an 84 wagon I had and what a difference.I hadn't thought about hte rear main seal though, sounds like a really good idea.I had been told the tunnels on turbo cars were larger then NA cars is this bunk.Well thanks for the suggestions they will come in very handy.Dave. -
Hopefully this weekend I will be swapping my going south auto for a 4 speed dr.If anyone out there could chime in with tips suggestions or helpfull advice I would be eternaly greatful.Oh yeah its coming out of my Turbo Brat and the 4 speed is coming out of an 84 wagon.Thanks,Dave.

Ever since I got my Brat out of the gumbo at Midwest meet 2 my tranny has been acting really strange. While getting it unstuck I had the trans temp light come on.I stopped the car and shut the engine off and opoened the hood to let the cool air and rain help cool it off. The symptoms are from a stop with the trans in drive sometimes it will start in first and not shift to second unless I drop it into second and back to drive.other times I will have to manually shift through all 3 gears because it will not start out in first it will start in second.Sometimes it wont start out in first even if I have put the shifter into first gear at a dead stop.I have heard people speak of pulling and sanding the governor smooth, could this be a possible fix for me?The tranny fluid level is right on but the color and odor is a little burnt.I changed the tranny fluid a couple of months before the midwest meet and it was fine beforew I left and when I got across South Dakota. If it is going out I have a dr 4 speed and 3.9 rear I can swap into it from my parts wagon. Please help,Dave.

Hey Shawn,if the county does fine us how are we going to pay for it?Will we set up an emergency donation fund?I will be willing to donate as I was one of the people who helped cause the damage, but with my wife and I getting seperated money is super tight, but I will figure out a way to help pay.Dave.

The only decent video I got was of Shawn using a prybar to dig out his fenderwells. On an aside,if you are going to use the self serve car wash that is right over by the Super 8,don't use the change machine it ate my $5 bill and gave me nothing in return. The pressure on the hoses really sucks also.I spent $7 trying to get the mud out of my wheels and wheel wells.I thought I had gotten it all but on my way to Sioux City I couldn't go over 50 mph.I pulled over and pulled my front wheels off on the side of the interstate and scraped them as well as I could, but that mud must have been crafted by satan himself because it almost was bonded to the wheels.I got as much of it off as I could and was able to do 60mph until some more mud inside the fenderwells fell off and landed on the inside if the wheel.Back to not being able to go over 50mph.So I crawled my way into Sioux City and went ot the first truck stop I saw.The guys working in the shop were kind enough to let me use the high pressure truck wash hose for no charge and was able to get it all pretty much out.I must have done something to my tranny, sometimes when I take off in drive it feels like it is in second. It will also sometimes while taking off in drive start out in first and will not shift unless I drop it in second and pop it back in drive.other than that all is well and I am counting my blessings for having been able to get out of that mess.Dave.

Midwest Meet Clutch Roast

I took some video and just looked over it this morning and it really is bad.I was trying to drive and run the camera at the same time and got alot of the sky and my windshield wiper. -
I just got home from the midwest meet.I am one of the few lucky ones who got out.I do believe that there are 5 Subes still stuck in some very nasty mud.Now before anyone accuses me of ditching my bretheren,I would have had to leave at about 4:00 AM tomorrow get back home in time and every one just got motel rooms for the night. There were a few smoked clutches on that little stretch of gumbo or clay road.Vickaroo,Mick,Joext6(sorry if that isn't your correct board name)and myself were the only ones to get off of that road.Chef Tim smoked the clutch in his lifted hatch trying to pull Miles Fox out and got stuck himself. It had stopped raining by the time me Miles Fox,Chef Tim were able to get my Brat the last hundred yards or so out,but it rained on me all the way to Mitchell SD and I think it was headed there way.So if you are a religeous person please pray for them and if you aren't please just keep them in mind. Thanks,Dave
