  1. There are many opinions on this issue and I feel it probably is best to stick with the manufacturers recomendation. You can vary the engine rpm by selecting different gears as you drive. Carl
  2. don't we all. back on topic sorta, just finished ordering up 1 ea 2006 (warrior face) Aspen White WRX wagon from Ryan at Teape Subaru. They wanted my business enough to seriously consider my offer and they got it. So, maybe my baby will be here in a few weeks! now to start shopping for a rear sway bar, muffler, tint shop, whee......... lol! Carl
  3. Well, the ideal repair would probably have been a musroom plug or a patch on the inside - dunno exactly what they used. personally, I'd just keep a close eye on that tire since it seems the tires are not new and will get replaced at some point not too far off. I assume you're aware that AWD systems are sensitive to tire mismatch and Subaru recommends no more than 1/4 inch difference in CIRCUMFERENCE on tires, so trying to keep that one on the car is likely a better decision that replacing with a new one. If htye get rotated before they need replacing, remeber to continue to monitor that tire and keep proper inflation pressures and stuff. glad it wasn't something too serious good luck. carl
  4. Hey! Todd, I'm in Arlington, maybe I could come over and help you turn a wrench someday. Never afraid to get greasy! Carl
  5. I dunno. Might look for a torn CV joint boot. I once had a fender liner get knocked loose in a puddle on a Toyota and it would rub the tire, but not intermittently. Just look around, maybe have someone 'pace' the car walking down the street to pinpoint it. Carl
  6. OK - this is a rumor OK, I heard that the RS may be dropped if the TR sells well. That may mean an RS would be a 'collectors' item someday. This comes from some SOJ guys through another source. Not sure if anyone cares - just FYI (some of the other rumors were interesting too. - like a 2 door STI) Carl
  7. Honestly, it's more car than I will ever be able to take advantage of.(I MAY take a driving school - more like a dream hah!) but I have an inheritance and am driving a car I don't care for. So, my 2 favorite cars I ever owned were an '81 Civic wagon and a '69 Datsun 2000 convertible. So, I really like the idea of having a 'sport wagon' and can't any reason not to make it a Subaru. I figure there's no reason not to drive what I want. I COULD get something smaller, or a truck, or lots of other things. I just want a WRX wagon. Carl
  8. OK, I KNOW that there is no gurantees with any security device. But, I think I'd like to buy a 'club' type steering wheel lock - for extra deterrence. I just like the idea that, perhaps, someone looking for an easy target might bypass my car if they see the steering wheel lock on. I know they can be picked in 15 seconds or the wheel cut through etc. Just want a little xtra - ya know? any recomendations for my '06 I'll get in a few weeks? Carl
  9. Might worth the effort to look for bubbles in the coolant. I agree, I hope it's fixed. Did the mech say the old rad was clogged? Carl
  10. Interesting. Is this a reflection of respect for the AWD systems or what? Carl
  11. Well, we're gonna need a name for them (like bugeyes) I guess. I propose 'Samurai Face'; http://www.quanonline.com/military/military_reference/japanese/photos/samurai_helmet_face.jpg If we '06 owners don't get a handle on this NOW, it'll end being called Suzukaru, or Edsel Grill, or Pig Snout or something lol! Carl
  12. OMG you're right! Ryan at Teape Subaru said the price sheets are coming outta the fax machine today! Aspen white '06 WRX wagon here I come! Carl
  13. First 4 thoughts; Make sure you are not feeling any jerky/thmupiness when you make turns at low speeds (no brakes applied - unlikely to be 'torque bind' but better to be sure). Double check, or have checked, the torque on the lug nuts. have the rotors 'turned' (machined down) and new pads installed - no hard/emergency braking for a while afterwards please) have NEW rotors installed. Sometimes a spot on a rotor can be so overheated that resurfacing will not remove the poorly tempered spot and the pusling can come back. Carl
  14. I think I dislike the tail lights the most - I think the front looks kinda like a stylized samurai warrior's face. Moreso than a airplane anyway. Still, they could've done just about anything to it and I'd still buying one I guess. Where else shold I shop for a 'sport wagon'? Some of you guys already have yours. I'm driving a '96 Dodge Avenger 4cyl. ! Carl
  15. So Jamie, when do the WRXes get here? Or when would someone be able to order one? Carl
  16. Are your tires old? Not in tread wear particularly, in time. Nowadays it seems aging tires can begin to get some tread seperation which will cause some vibration on braking. If you actually feel pedal pulses though, likely is brakes. maybe check the torque on the lugnuts or remove and retorque the wheels. Carl
  17. I haven't reviewed the entire thread - but you should confirm that the PCV valve/system is not clogged. It may or may not be causing the present oil leaks but would make them worse - and it doesn't affect the list of items needing attention if you go into the TB replacement soon. just a thought Carl
  18. Does his engine have the tensioner prone to 'ticking'? Yeah, a great investment would be some time searching this site for info, links to pictures, etc. And, as suggested, try www.subarugenuineparts.com and email/call jamie (subiegal) for parts/advice. Carl
  19. Nah - holdbacks are more like 3% - 4%(MSRP or some other calciulation - with or without options, etc.) . The ACTUAL COST to the dealer is kinda tricky to figure out and even they don't know til the cars is sold! Carl
  20. If you got this car from a Subaru dealer, you might approach them with something like; "Hey, guys - I KNOW you didn't INTEND to sell me a car riddled with oil leaks but that's what I got. maybe you could cut me some slack on replacing some seals if I decide to let you guys do the timing belt that's coming up soon." Carl
  21. I think folks have experienced the engine temp sensor (not the temp gauge sensor) being bad and keeping the ECU fooled into a 'choke' condition. Carl
