rust inside the frame - need a quick answer
subarubrat replied to Marck's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I would say cut open more area to get access and POR it right, then weld over a fresh metal pannel. -
Wheel Backspace What will or wont work?
subarubrat replied to subaru420's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Most XTs you will see are 4 lug, the 5 lug ones are less common, and I am certain that it was only on the XT6 which is the 6 cyl powered one. -
Melis, The master list is on my work computer, I will email it to you tommorow while I am at work. Off the top of my head.. "And wtf is this about .45acp having more 'punch' than a .223? " More dropping power, true, but the 223 lets you stand off. But if you move quick and get down from your position you might be able to get him to trade the location of your cars for the false promise of calling for medical attention. -
Sorry nothing in writing, but I remember reading about it and it was a big deal in the day. You have one hell of a piece of RC and BRAT history there you lucky dog. And I noticed that Ski Team wagon peaking out too. I would say that you have two of the top 20 collectables.

McBrat, that RC BRAT looks allot like THE German one that was driven around the shoreline of some big rump roast lake, all hopped up with a big rump roast battery setup. It was sweet, a big deal in the 80's.

Same bait, but wait with the .223, catch him in the act and do what needs to be done. You live in the woods, figure the rest out. -
Chongo, We are leaving in a convoy from my place Friday noon. We will be driving up to 15 just outside of gainsville and headed up that way. We will be meeting up with Beerheart and his TONKA wagon and another fellow on 15 at Sheets gas station in Haymarket. If you want to join the convoy just be at the Sheets in Haymarket at 12:30ish and we will meet you there. Look for the lifted yellow wagon and hook up with him and we will be along shortly.

XT6 parts are the norm, it is not too difficult and doesn't demand any custom fab. At that point anything (Nearly) that fits an Impreza/legacy etc. will fit. -

GIMOUNGUS, I like that! That would be me I assume, and yes they do stick way out. Now that is inevitable with 16 inch wide tires and those wheels. Wheels like that would not be an effective solution for your needs. You would be better off staying 4 lug and using pugs (pugeot wheels). -

82 brat-front axle questions
subarubrat replied to brat58's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Because home mechanics cut in to dealer profits. There is no technical reason. It is not likely that the pin sheared because the cup is splined on a splined shaft and if the pin sheared the splines let go and you would have bigger issues than this. The pins seldom ever fall out either. Most likely at some point when the truck was serviced the mechanic did not replace the pin. Move the cup back and forth and see if the pin is completely absent from the hole and that the hole is clear all the way through. If everything is clear just tap in a new roll pin. -

Being like Cartman (Vehicle Weight)
subarubrat replied to Adam N.D.J.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I just finished reconnecting the engine and tranny today with all their cables, hoses and plugs. The linkage got done as well. I started on the exhaust and I expect to have that done by Thurs. At that point the truck will be done other than some minor trim items. I hope to get by and put it on the scales. I will post the results as soon as that happens. -
I have added a much needed new forum software that is 1000% better than ezboard. I also still have some @SubaruBrat.com email addresses left if anyone wants one.

I am running 550s in my car with a mid boost turbo. You can go even higher. With a stock engine changing the injectors out to a larger one would allow more fuel per cycle creating a rich run condition and poor mileage and performance. For the sort of money the injector cost, you could re-cam, and get a better intake, and a free flowing muffler.

GVW What is the weight of an 82 brat?
subarubrat replied to greggbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
harbor Freight has a 3000lb for about $150ish and it is the EXACT same one that milemarker sells for more. It has enough power to haul my BRAT out and up. -
What sort of tubing bender do you have?
