MaroonDuneDoom replied to bluesbug's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thanks for the info GD. i guess i'm not gonna plan on replacing the O2 sensor any time soon. if my ECU says it's bad i might think about doing it sometime down the road. -

tire size question
MaroonDuneDoom replied to MaroonDuneDoom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i'm talking after 3" lift. it's usually kinda sandy around here if that makes any difference with the width issue. -
been looking on-line for tires and i was wondering what size i would want for a chevy 15" wheel. i need numbers like 175/70/13 etc. i just don't know how wide everything will end up. what would be a good width also? thanks fellas

Clutch is toasted
MaroonDuneDoom replied to MaroonDuneDoom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i came up with the cash this afternoon and i think the lifetime warranty clutch will be well worth it. this way, i can thrash the damn thing and return it again and again. i can also transfer it to my new soob when i get it. -

Clutch is toasted
MaroonDuneDoom replied to MaroonDuneDoom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it works a bit better after cooling. it has been slipping for some time and i just pushed it over the edge. i was going to order a new clutch kit tomorrow w/a lifetime warranty. should i just replace it anyways or do the sanding. i know i'll need to replace it someday anyways. does anybody know of some type of write up for replacing the clutch? -
just went wheeling a bit next to my buddies house whikle i was waiting for him to gety home. i was climbing this fatty hill that my 7 year old brother said i would never get to the top of. i got to the top alright, but i went playing some more and fried the s*** out of the clutch. smoke and stink. now i can hardly get moving. this reallysucks being that it's christmas time and all. too bad Santa isn't real:boohoo: once i get it disassembled i'll take some pics and have you guys tell me whats worth keeping. maybe i wont have to buy the whole clutch kit. i don't really have $200 just laying around

simple idle question
MaroonDuneDoom replied to MaroonDuneDoom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it doesn't warm up here until about mid-march or so. -
what i meant was if the battery had enough voltage to start the car, then drove w/o being recharged, the batt. would be dead. after you run it next, drive for awhile and then aftyer shutting it off, try to restart. that would be indicative of alternator problems.
-
when i first start my ea82 SPFI, it will idle at 2k. after i tap the gas once, it returns to normal. Sometimes it will return to normal for like 30 sec. then kick back up to 2k. it's not really a problem, but what the hell is causing this? any ideas?

they seem pretty reliabe. i thought about driving mine all the way to Eagle Pass, Texas the other day but decided not to because i have never taken it on a road trip. That definitely would have been an adventure. It seems hat a lot of you guys travel everywhere in your soobs. Thats cool, kind of a pride thing it instills in the driver i would imagine. Or some kind of nasty Subaru tapeworm that burrows into your brain and takes over your thoughts.

good thinkin caleb. i have to use my parking lights because the switch is gone for my tail/running lights. you could also check for grounding out.

Need help identifying pop/click
MaroonDuneDoom replied to MaroonDuneDoom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it'll seize? i thought it would just break and you wouldn't be able to move. -
is it considered suspension lift or body lift? with the tcase mod.
MaroonDuneDoom replied to Rooinater's topic in Off Road
definitely intersesting. sounds like a pain in the rump roast. would be worth it it sounds. -
are those headers i see on that haz-mat hatch? baddass. simply baddass.
-
i'm not real sure if this will help, but have you checked the alternator? also, if you ever hooked a battery charger up backwards, it will fry the diodes in the alt. and usually a cell or two in the battery. good luck man.

4WD speed question???????
MaroonDuneDoom replied to biffanyus's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i don't think there is a problem with the push button either. a guy i know was raving about his justy w/push button. he said he used it on the interstate all the time. i'd assume that your XT won't be too different. just listen to the engine and feel what your car is telling you. that should be a pretty strong governing force. -
damn mudrat, you've got more balls than i do i guess. i've never taken my roo on a trip. i only got it about four months ago and i just don't feel that she's trip worthy. i know i could make it prett far but it's the gettin back that worries me. i'm gonna travel from here to cheyenne in a few weeks to run some business errands and i'm anxious to see how well m'wagon does

radiator shot. i think
MaroonDuneDoom replied to MaroonDuneDoom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i have a couple little leaks somewhere. the thermostat is opening just fine. it always runs at or very close to the red. i'm only driving out of neccessity right now. the garden hose in the radiator doesn't sound like too good of an idea. wont this water hurt the engine at all. well, maybe not. people used to use just water. i broke my electrical fan in my first front ender where i went over a boulder that was a half inch taller than the underside of the bumper. i went right up over it all drunken off-roading at midnight and put a fat ripple right down the pass side. nothing broke except the sensor for the fan. i rigged the mechanical one from the JY and it spins all the time. the radiator just isn't getting hot but the side and hose from the t-stat are.
