High performance crossover pipe

Featured Replies

I am definitely interested in the crossover pipe and downpipe as well!!!

Someone make sure to get a group buy thread going for this come spring. :)

Bump-

I'm in for the group buy on this crossover pipe; I'm redoing my exhaust this spring (hopefully). This would work out good..

Should...............but I dont know for sure.

All these parts are currently installed on an EA81 T right now. The header primaries aren't ideal for the ports on this engine, but it still spools up like mad.

On a side note, the old wagon met defeat last week to a slightly modified (full exhaust and intake) WRx. Got me by one and half car lengths. This system on an EA82 would have changed the outcome of that race.

I have since sold the car (I'm a poor loser) and am now looking at a 300+ HP version of this project using a EJ18 engine in a wagon and some of our Impreza components (header, etc>)

hey techworks,

What are the I.D.s of the tubing for this EA82T crossover.

Primaries?

after merge collector?

I have read that opening the crossover pipe too far slows down the exhaust and therefore increases turbo lag. What have you found in your pipe?

In the photos I've seen, I can't tell if this crossover uses an up-pipe or is it one piece?

The ID of the primaries is 1 7/8". The proper ID for the EA81 should be 1 1/2" aproximately. You are correct to be concerned about exhaust gas velocity. This is partly why the collector merges just before the turbine inlet. I had expected this combo to be very "laggy" on the EA81, but this proved to be not the case. Part of the reason for the quick spool up on this application is due to the GT17 turbo. It spools to 15 psi by 2200 rpm! There is no up pipe needed with this header as the collector terminates at the turbo flange. Seperating the primary flow until just before the turbo helps maintain the steady flow of pulses to the turbo while maintaining maximum high rpm flow potential.

hey TWE....how many headers and downpipes do we need to order as a minimum to get something going...?

Also, if these go into production will they have the 2 1/2" primaries you spoke of? Not all of us have ball bearing turbos ya know...

  • Author

Um, i believe they will be 1 7/8....

They MUST be 1 1/2"!!!! You EA82T guys get everything your way! Give us some parts designed for our cars!

Are there any pics of the crossover pipes or downpipes that we can drool over. I can't wait.

WOW.

but the pic names says ej18t ss header02cc?

I dont remember EJ18s haveing single exh ports...

WJM,

That's techworks photo from the first post on these. remember the engine code confusion?

It is the crossover pipe thou art coveting

Cool. Remember any pics for a DP?

i never saw pics of a down pipe but they must have had one with that turbo.

I'm going to use a gutted and modified (bell mouthed) stock wrx down. $25 on ebay plus a few hours of cat gutting

Cool.

Why is the header 'close to equal length' instead of 'equal length'?

check out the pic. its alittle shorter on the pass. side. if it were true equal length it would be a bit large to fit.

WJM will they make different flages for different types of turbos like say a vf11:slobber:

I talked to the TWE guy who is on the board and he said that they are not quite equal length, but really darn close. Also, if one pipe it 2x longer than the other, it would have the same effect as an equal lenth pipe.

Correct, this is known as "tuned-length" and is how the very expensive SYMS headers for the Imprezas are configured.

Since another old post has crepted up, figured I may as well join the trend. :brow: Has anyone gotten any updates on this project?

Keith is building up an 87 turbo wagon with all the TWE goodies and such for autocross.
