Looking forward to seeing how tucked up you can get that FMIC.  What model is it?

I'm afraid to go that way as I'll probably mess it up when I go off road, but the TMIC heat soak has been killer lately!  102 F yesterday...

I'm afraid to go that way as I'll probably mess it up when I go off road, but the TMIC heat soak has been killer lately!  102 F yesterday...

The cooler was special made for me supports 600whp so it's kind of the only shape that will fit.

If your running less power they a smaller would fit perfect for you, ya for off road use it could get bashed up but the benefit is worth it in front.

You should look into maybe mounting a STi one in front that way you can replace them if damaged or dual mount.. There is so much room under the fender wells it's crazy.

Your intercooler is very wide, looks like it will flow a lot without much drop!  Yeah, I don't need one that big.

Hmm one of the new style intercoolers could fit in a fender maybe...  My car actually has a lot of power when it's hot, it's just if I stop for a bit it heat soaks, I see some knock, timing retards, and then the power is gone.  I do have some boost taper tuned in to keep the intercooler happy, with an FMIC I could run more boost up top.

But for now I ordered a 300 CFM Spal fan, and water sprayer.  If it works well then I will make a circuit to operate it automatically.

Have you thought of some cold air intake?  I switched from a cone filter to a box I made from a few Subaru pieces and a stock STi pleated element, and I don't think I lost any power when cold, yet when hot it is certainly much better.  My filter is in the stock location and draws from inside the fender.

for the cold air intake i all ways just stick a short pipe and huge filter on it. i could make a box but once its tuned like that its ok. it will get a bit of hot air but when moving on hwy speed it gets cooler.

i just make a duct to the side for fresh air, there is allot of dirt in the fenders i dont want to lift the car to see the filter change pain in the but. but a proper made box is the best like you said ! maybe in the future plans.

so the broken spun rod bearing motor with the wiseco pistons and manley rods is alive !! motor #1 EJ22T she lives and is running ok !

but that was just to bleed coolant and do the flush and check everything over. OK SUBARU !

motor #2 (aka the spare), EJ22T with wiseco pistons (@ machine shop getting fitted), Carillo Rods, ACL race bearings.

thanks to Dov@NVauto for my pistons and rods !

i picked this time around the super light weight SA rods from carrillo ! on my turbo legacy i used the very expensive and rugged H beam version. ill try something different with the spare.

so instead of cutting the only mint condition bumper cover left on the plant rare to the Canadian models of the GL-10, I found some scrap yard in West coast Canada that had 2 skins with full Re-Bar set up.

just need to paint the lower section white like the original I have put away for safe keeping.

so far this is how i mounted the aim cluster but i think i will change it once my spare cluster comes in from the scrap yards. the flush mount should look much better if it fits.

are you planning on painting the IC black?... kinda ruins the sleeper aspect of it.. but then again your car is 10000x better than my car so I you can just ignore me lol

thats a very good question !.... i asked the same question to the builder of my intercooler when i got it. he told me you cant paint it with normal style paint it needs a special paint from a company which I forgot from who again.

why special painting i asked !.. normal painting will lose power from the cooler... I really didn't ask the details thats why its still not painted lol, ill trust the experts with my expensive buy !

what I really wanted to do was paint the top half white like the bumper skin and bottom half black to mask it in there, i bet from 20 feet away it would have look super stock.

maybe one day ill get it done like that.

decide to change the cluster set up cant have it the other way, so my scrap yard cluster came in and I made a template out of paper then on aluminium. just need turn lights, VDO fuel guage, high beams and its ready to be put in after paint job.

that's not the oem cluster out my car ! I have it put away.

I thought that same thing.. a while after I posted lol

Um.....radiators and a/c condensers usually get painted black at the point of manufacture.......and I highly doubt it's any kind of "special" paint

they use. Ordinary spray can paint won't cause any measurable drop in efficiency of your I/C, it goes on in a coat measured in microns.

Edited by SmashedGlass

I'd use VHT crank case paint - it is flat black and retains/prohibits heat transmission.  Granted your FMIC is out in the air but it would prevent heat soak.  Had great results with this stuff and it is durable as hell.

How are you handling the fuel level gauge? Are you using the existing sender or replacing it?

Regular paint can and will insulate the cooler. But Radiator paint does exist (never seen it.....used it on a friend's build but I'm not sure where he got it), and will prevent that problem.

yep your right they do come black but the new stuff is all left non painted now days, maybe its something to do with that or not i have no clue at all.

about what i was told i dont know if it needs special or not he's the intercooler specialist not me, i asked him if i could paint that was the reply i got.

i used that stuff on my old legacy turbo FMIC, it was the stuff i was going to use but not this time i guess lol.

what Franz told me to do was measure my sender unit resistance and get the fuel vdo gauge that matches my resistance. its the only thing that wont work on the aim.

on a side note my oem dig cluster does not rear full and i even replace the sender unit twice which did nothing to help. i have a oem gas tank and all oem and still wont work right. so i hope this vdo one will actual read proper for me.

ill call bell intercoolers to see what place and paint he wants me to use i forget what he said.

Dang, that license plate just ruins the front end.  Think you could get away without running it?  I am sure you have laws but?

  • 2 weeks later...

create an exact stencil of your license plate and paint it on the intercooler lol. badabing, badaboom.

I hate this thread.. Makes me sad that I'll likely never see this kind of build for my loyale wagon :-(

That said.. Badass car man!

How much did it cost to build this car?

And crickets...........................

One must not ask such things.........................., simply bask in the glory.
