September 12, 201213 yr I have a oprutunity to get a SVX with a bad tranny, wonderin if it will bolt into a EJ car like a 2002 Impreza that has a 2.5?, I can get the whole car so I will have all the wiring, this is new to me tell me about this engine, is it a 2.2 just with more pistons? has anyone put one in a Imp? , is there any problems with that engine and setup? thanks guys
September 12, 201213 yr It will not fit without modification. The SVX 6 is a large long engine. Everything will bolt up, but you would have to relocate the radiator and supports i think. it is also a lot heavier. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148934
September 12, 201213 yr I have read that the only sensible thing to do when an svx dumps its trans is to put a wrx 5 speed in it 10 secounds on google rendered this link http://www.smallcar.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=29919
September 12, 201213 yr It is possible. Here is an introduction video that has a ton of videos following it showing how to put one into a 96 Impreza wagon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfgSPvQ_7Ls&feature=plcp And yes it does run now.
September 12, 201213 yr EG33 is a fantastic motor, capable of high mileages, very reliable, no big issues, and great power. it's been stuffed into XT's, there's a few folks running EG33 swapped XT's on subaruxt.com, so they're quite familiar with installing them in other subaru's. two are members here but rarely post. they are regulars on subaruxt.com. transmissions commonly fail, they need good ATF cooling. but that's a nonissue with a swap.
September 12, 201213 yr when the trans gos we put in 4.,44 ratios and a high stall from a 2.2 2wd and that kicks it in the pants the flex plate bolts up the same and wire harness could be cut down it would be very front heavy in a impreza is not a light motor and most of the weight is in front of axle would be a cool westfalia engine
September 12, 201213 yr There are quite a few of these swaps out there. I know a lot of you dont care for nasioc, but theres a wealth of info there if you know where to look. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1652550&highlight=eg33+swap http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1323800&highlight=eg33+swap http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1209876&highlight=eg33+swap Heres the link with all the threads... http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/search.php?searchid=32820127
September 12, 201213 yr and yes scott, the TQ/flexplate etc will bolt up on the EG33. All it is, is basically 1.5x 2.2L's. Almost like they chopsawed a motor in have, took #3 and #4 cylinders and welded the cases together lol. Keep me in the loop on your swap, I have a 91 SVX sitting in my driveway that I dont really want to drive anymore, I'd like to see it in my OB with your lift on it
September 13, 201213 yr The SVX is a relatively rare and unique car. I would almost buy one up as an investment. Replace the trans, and garage the thing for another 20 years, is there any reason these cars wont go up in value and become collectible as they fall off the roads due to trans issues?
September 13, 201213 yr An SVX in NICE shape is worth a bit of money, problem is the collector side of things, there is already a bunch of nice expensive ones out there. goto http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/index.php and take a look around on there. I own a early 92 SVX and I'm more tempted to yard out the EG33 and put it in my outback. #1, OB is a hell of a lot lighter than the SVX. #2 5 doors > 3 doors. #3 SVX parted out is worth more than it is sitting complete.
October 13, 201213 yr Author I got the e ngine home, need to get a detailed wiring harness drawing if anyone has alink
