September 1, 200421 yr hey im puting a snorkle on my hatch. now i put a old air box on the top of the tube so it kind of looks like a safari snorkle top... with a little i mean a lot of imagination but ne ways i was wondering what way should the top be pointing.. the front... down a little bit or backwards so no mud gets in it. or would forwards better for like ram air and what not...? for any one that has or have had a snorkle tell me if u get a lot or just some water in the snorkle when it is forwards.. thnks
September 1, 200421 yr Author ne one ...? i dont want to put it all in and have problems :-\ ne suggestions would be great thnks
September 1, 200421 yr most of the snorkles i have seen open to the front, if you are worried about mud, just get some bigger mud flaps
September 2, 200421 yr thats when you get huge fender covers and and mud flaps. mudflaps dont do it when your fenders cover only half your tire =]
September 2, 200421 yr if its going to be on there permanently, have it open to the rear. btw, did you paint your KC covers too?
September 2, 200421 yr thats when you get huge fender covers and and mud flaps. That's no fun; I like slinging junk on to the roof of my wagon
September 2, 200421 yr I think I would put it forward, it depends on how you drive I think. If you go nice and easy through that big puddle to create a nice bow wake you can leave it forward. If your going 20mph and shooting a wall of water 15+ feet I would piont it backwards.
September 2, 200421 yr Would it be possible to mount it so that you could point it forward while just driving, and backward when 4x4'in?
September 3, 200421 yr my only concern with popinting it to the back is that when you are driving, the wind going over the snorkle might create a dead spot in the air flow, almost a vacuum sucking air out of it.
September 3, 200421 yr I really dont see whats wrong with pointing it forward. You got a filter in there right? Let it do its job and replace it often. If it really concerns you that much about getting any dirt, mud, bugs, or small woodland creatures stuck in your snorkal then put a cone filter or a screen mesh on the front of the snorkel and leave yoru OEM box filter in there too.
September 3, 200421 yr I like the idea of having it reversable. That way you can face it forward for on-road or dry off-road use, then turn it around for those times that it could get splashed. The other thing you could do is install a "water trap" in the ducting, where the tube changes from vertical to horizontal in a 90 degree bend, with a small "appendix" thingy hanging down. If I didn't get my point across, imagine a T-fitting with about three inches of extra pipe coming out of the bottom with a cap on it. That would catch any water or large particulates that got sucked in.

April 9, 200619 yr Theres a couple of threads going in the Off Road Forum that talk about snorks. Might want to read those rather than resurrecting a thread thats 2yrs old:-p
