September 19, 200421 yr My 91' loyale is really gutless it has almost 180k on it, any suggestions that might give me a bit more horse power? Thanks for the help
September 19, 200421 yr you should try a search first of all i think this has been posted a million times... not tryin to sound like a wongleflute... just suggesting
September 19, 200421 yr Author yeah, not the sugestion I was looking for, but thanks for the input really appreciated. yup real good
September 19, 200421 yr I will suggest an engine swap to an EJ20 turbo, WRX front clips are a dime a dozen nowdays and will give you a nice modern engine with low miles and the performance you want for a very reasonable price. I am sure that the usual suspencts will be along any moment to declair this as a terrible idea.
September 19, 200421 yr or alittle cheaper , 2in pipe from cat back, ngk plugs, accell coil, k-n filter , bottom of air box cut out, new dist cap, rotor , 8mm wires,

You mean there are people out there that think an EJ swap is a bad idea:confused: Then there are the real crazys that built 2.7L:grin:
September 19, 200421 yr meatwagon, be the bear, not the cowardly squirrel! You must be more aggressive when you tell people to search! Seriously man, search! This is got to be the number 1 reposted question on this board.
September 19, 200421 yr You mean there are people out there that think an EJ swap is a bad idea:confused: Yep, a few times someone has asked about getting more power or REAL performance I have suggested en EJ swap. For about 2~3gs you are stepping up to 230+ Hp and a fresh engine. Not to mention rock solid factory reliability. That is a real performance increase at a very reasonable price. And following that there have been a few smartazz remarks blasting that advice as being useless or of no help etc. Followed by the magic forumla of a muffler and intake for big HP.
September 20, 200421 yr Author meatwagon, be the bear, not the cowardly squirrel! You must be more aggressive when you tell people to search! Seriously man, search! This is got to be the number 1 reposted question on this board. So bush whacker, you can bitch about someone asking a question that might have been asked before. So what took more time? You thinking of a way to bitch or would it have been more effecient to just not even bother posting. And why would you even waste your time clicking the little link that said "I need more power". SO many questions and so little answers.
September 20, 200421 yr Whoah! Controll the anger. You're new, you didn't know about the search, You are forgiven. Nobody is bitchin, their just reacting to the fact that almost every newbie asks the same question before searching. Wana be popular on the board? Dont go spreading hate about people wasting their time bitchin. Just let the little things slide. This isn't no ricer board.
September 20, 200421 yr chill out. Actually, I opened this thread to remind you of the search function, because people probably were not going to go all out helping you after doing it time and time again. But instead I made a little joke towards meatwagon, and now you're the one who's bitching.
September 20, 200421 yr wow, do i feel the heat resonating off this thread. cmon man, subaru owners are friends, not enemies. p.s. loyales were built to be gutless, and unless you wanna tear it apart and do enough mods to not make it a loyale i suggest you recognize that you didnt exactly purchase the fastest wagon in the west (that would be the dodge magnum, eh). p.p.s. mods, in order to avoid further "board veteran vs. newbie" fights i think it would be neccessary to put all who join through a posting etiquitte (sp?) course - that movie in the off-topic forum, in particular. this type of thing isnt worth getting frustrated over. just an idea. skeet
September 20, 200421 yr check timing remove crap it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow
September 20, 200421 yr . So what took more time? You thinking of a way to bitch or would it have been more effecient to just not even bother posting. Its easier to just say...search n00b!! However.. you want more power? Get a turbo EA82T, EJ20G.. what ever.. get aturbo..Be prepared to rewire everything from the dash forward
September 20, 200421 yr Author hey thanks again guys for the input... I realize the loyale is gutless just a bit frustrating when other loyales pass you up hill... if ya know what i mean? But yeah I did get the point about the search thing on the first post... but really no hard feeling's and all the info is really appreciated!
September 20, 200421 yr instead of looking like an rump roast, you should have searched. I mean you didn't tell us much, and you asked about more power. which comes up on here like three times a day. now if theres a problem with it like its really slow (like not keeping up with traffic) then there might be problem. like a clogged cat, I mean who knows you didn't provide us with much info. so tell us more
September 20, 200421 yr Welcome to the board! I'm in Anchorage as well (going to UAA). Where are you located? When was the last tune-up? Does it have an automatic transmission? If it's an auto, there really isn't too much hope:drunk: (5-speed swap isn't too hard). You would be amazed what new plugs, cap/rotor, and checking timing will do for these cars. Also, run a bottle or two of Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner. I swear by the stuff. After that, I would throw in an Accel coil and wires, cut out the bottom of the airbox for improved flow, and ditch the crappy stock muffler for a three-chamber. Those are simple mods that really do make a difference. If you're looking for real performance, as was said, you could swap in a turbo engine. EA82T's came in these cars from the factory, so they're a simple swap and have decent power. I really want to follow SB's idea with the EJ swap, but that's a project for one with extra time and money, of which I have neither. It is possible that at 180k, it's getting a bit tired, but these are really low-stress engines so the short block tends to remain in good shape for a LONG time. How's the fuel economy? You might do a compression test if you've got the tester, or you could borrow mine. Well, good luck. And don't sweat that "warm welcome". It's really nothing personal. It's just that the question of ea82 performance or lack thereof comes up on a weekly basis, so some get tired of it.

Thanks for the helpHere are some suggestions: Read this link--->http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/ea-performance-page/subaru-ea-performance.html If you want to take it a step further, go here: http://www.ramengines.com/ Now, how much $$$ do you want to spend? The power is there. Here are even more links to other links: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22058
September 30, 200421 yr Author Thanks for the info dude! My fuel economy is real good, Espially after changing the plugs, its really always been pretty good, just looking for input... thanks again... oh and I also go to UAA.. I have the loyale with yakima rack and white rocket box with mountainbikealaska.com on it. later Welcome to the board! I'm in Anchorage as well (going to UAA). Where are you located? September 30, 200421 yr mountainbikeak - hahhaha I passed you in anchorage a few weeks ago. I remember the sticker.. lol blue 86 wagon with metallic blue racing stripes? that would be me
October 4, 200421 yr Just aquired my second Loyale 'bout a month ago. It had a severe lack of power when I got it, specifically, it has almost no low end torque. Two things helped dramatically; First was a new exhaust(everything from the manifold back). This was done primarily because there wasn't much left of the original system, but it did also give me a bit more power. The second and most helpfull thing was to check the timing. It was more then 5 degs off, I corrected this and have since notice a great deal of improvement. Hope this helps!
October 5, 200421 yr turn the timing up a little, put on a 2 inch exhaust, hi flow air filter or holes in airbox. tune up good. jims sedan has a larger screen and filter in the auto tranny, and he swears it will almost spank the 4spd auto turbo wagon. i tell you myself the sedan will get up and go, 2 inch pipe from the y pipe back usually pushing the search issue is preceded by "im new to the board" i made this point here, but after someone else raised the issue: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=627698
October 5, 200421 yr i made this point here, but after someone else raised the issue: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=627698 Miles i totally agree that the whole "search and you will find!" thing can be a little played out. Hell sometimes when i search i come up with multiple threads on a subject (yay happy:banana:) but find they are only full of search comments, and yes that can be very irritating, but isnt it common knowledge that if you go to any board, you WILL get flamed if you dont search first? And rightly so, in fact most other boards have a FAQ'S section that says in the title, "LOOK HERE BEFORE POSTING!" Which almost ALWAYS goes ignored. And then of course the comment from the Noob is always "well why did you waist you time posting to my useless question then?" Well simply for me, its because people learn best through repitition. right? So search, search, search. Then maybe, just maybe Noobs will stop posting "where can i get a cheap lift kit for my car" and find it themselves in one of the hundreds of other threads carrying that info." Besides wouldnt it be just as rude to just ignore them. If i recall that thread you posted is about the guy getting ignored himself. And on a side note, yes the archiving of some info could be delt with in a more efficient manner, but i believe the moderators and people providing this thread for us are volunteers, so, well im gratefull. so what have we learned? 1.) noobs, Please <--- (notice the politeness? ) search, replyee's, be nice and informative, or nothing at all. and mods, thanks for the board, even if it could use a tune up. cheers all. and we subiers are friends, so let the bickering end, amen. Tyler J.
