Gabriel or KYB Shocks?

Featured Replies

I'm looking at getting new shocks for my lifted brat, and was looking around at either the KYB's or the Gabriels. What do you guys feel is the better product for some offroad abuse? Is there another choice? Thanks for the help.

i have heard rave reviews from both kinds of shocks, but im partial to KYB-GR2's.

I just put GR2s on all 4 corners of my 84GL and they did help put a smile on my face at the most recent rallycross. With that said, they may not be what you want for offroad since the front struts do not come with the height adjustment. I have not used Gabriels so I can't say anything about them. A few years back I had an 80 4wd hatch that I put some Monroe struts on that had the height adjustment. They seamed to work just fine.

no contest KYB is better. still not the best as they only offer the GR2s but better than the other options.

you get what you pay for ;) i prefer to pay for GR2s.

You might look into Konis; i've heard they're good. there's some guy on ebay periodically selling 20year old Koni shocks.. i think i'd go newer than that if you buy Konis.

i have the kyb's. the front could use a little stiffer spring, but they are great over rough terrain.

sachs/boge also makes them for subarus. has anyone tried them?

Okay, I know this post is very old but i want to get a better suspension setup for my hatchback and wanted to know if there is new products out, and if there are any stiffer(but same height) springs for the hatchback. Thanks

You may be able to put springs from an RX onto your hatch struts. I'm not positive they'll fit, but I think people have done it.

well i vote KYB gr2 struts, thats what i have, and there noice! have you gotten the struts yet jibs?

thanks, so now i need to find RX springs, does that include the sedan or only coupe?

Sedan and coupe should have the same springs, as long as it sais RX on the car somewhere.

The RX springs being stiffer will raise the front of the car about an inch.

Yeah I got them a LONG time ago. Actually I JUST installed them though about 2 weeks ago when TSJ helped me with my rear discs.

How are those working for you? The KYB's in the rear of my RX are really stiff. But that might be because of my springs too. my suspensions different than yours.
