Hi ALL!

I need to replace my 1992 Loyale Wgn. It's encroching on 200K miles. I use it for my carpentry work. It's just front wheel drive, 5 speed. I get about 30 mpg in the summer, then about 28 mpg in the winter. Just what kind of gas milage do you get in a Legacy Wgn with a 5 speed??

We drove our '00 auto Legacy wagon from Montana to DC to Texas and back to Montana, plus six weeks of runnning around the DC area and Maryland.

 

The 10,000 mile or so average was 25.5 mpg. Highway cruise at 70-75 mph our worst was 24.3, our best 28.7. I'd be surprised if a 5-spd did much better, unless you are being a very 'careful' driver.

 

But, there you go.

8L per 100 klms or 30 mpg on a non stop higway trip. But almost twice the gas for the same distance when I resume pure city driving during the winter months. :santa:

 

«Real» city driving though : very cold wheather, shorts distances, stop and go driving, idling at traffic lights, never more than third speed, etc.

That's just what I get with my '92 Legacy L wagon, 2.2L 16v, 5 sp manual, awd.

My '86 GL wagon would get 20 to 26 depending on where I was going. I get about 10% to 20% better mileage with my '91 Legacy wagon (except when I have the air conditioning on). Considering it weighs 500 lbs more, I was surprised.

 

Both were(are) 5 speed manual gearboxes.

25 mpg (mostly hiway) with 96' 2.2l auto.

You should get slightly better with 5sp (everything else being same).

On a 99 OBW, Auto, I get between 24-27 in town and 28-30 on the highway. If you get an AWD version, I don't think there's much mileage difference between the auto and the 5 speed, because of the way the AWD works.

for a 2003 OBW, 4cyl, stick:

 

city (5 to 10 mile trips): 22 - 24

 

highway: 25 - 26 mpg

 

mileage is about 1 - 2 mpg less than '92 Camry stick

Just finished a cross province (Ontario, Canada) trip and averaged over 35 miles per gallon, averaging a speed of 115 kph (71mph) with my 02 OBW (auto). Before anyone other than Canadians has a heart attack, remember that UK gallons (we used them here before going metric back in the 70's) are about a fifth larger than US gallons, and that's what my figures are based on. If I had behaved myself more on Highway 401, I'm pretty sure that I could have gotten 38 mpg at least, if I stayed with the posted speed limit at 100 kph (62 mph). I have to admit, even I am impressed. ( By the way, if I use US gallons in the figures, it works out to 29.28 mpg.)

'90 wgn W/ 5spd. In the summer in the city i get about 20 mpg, in the winter it is more like 17 or 18.

My 91 Legacy wagon awd 5-speed 209k miles gets anywhere from 16-33. haha those have been my record best and worst mileage. But on average it's about 24.

For comparison, my 84 wagon with a weber gets about 27 in town, and around 32 freeway. That's a carbed EA81!

Winter driving is a tad less. About 1/2 - 1 mpg less. I have gotten as low as 24 mpg. Stop and go construction summer driving with A/C on, and 31 mpg. The full tank from South Bend, IN to Youngstown, OH. Mostly flat and not speeding thanks to the Ohio State Police being everywhere :-)

2004 Legacy Wagon, 2.5 Automatic

 

it only has 1,000 miles but we get around 23 in the city and around 28 on the freeway. According to SOA you get less mileage with the manual tranny, about a mile per gallon less, It should improve some as we get some miles on it.

You get less milage with an auto tranny. My old 92 legacy wagon 2.2 5 sp got bout same milage 27-30 in town and 30-32 Hwy.

New car's take time to break in, so expect mileage to improve.

 

My 2001 Outback 2.5H4 5MT gets about 10l/100km combined city/highway driving. My best highway mileage was about 8l/100km, and worst city mileage was about 14l/100km.

 

In MPG (US gallons) it works out to:

 

average: ~25mpg

best: ~32mpg

worst: ~20mpg

 

The Outback is heavier than the Legacy, and with its increased ground clearance not as aerodynamic. Legacy's tend to get better mileage than Outbacks. 5MT models get more consistant mileage, but 4EAT's will do better on the highway because the engine revs about 400rpm lower at 75MPH when equipped with a 4EAT.

My '95 Legacy Brighton with a back full of golf clubs, cans of soda, and a bowling ball in addition to my slim 175 pound frame gets consistently 27 miles to the gallon, mostly on the highway.

93 legacy awd sedan, loaded down with pretty much all of my personal belongings and a bike on the roof, going 80-85 from MT to LA: 24mpg

Our '95 LS wagon (Auto and AWD) got 24-25 in town and 22-24 in town during the winter. Highway we usually saw 28-30.

375 to 405 miles per tank with air off and mostly highway with the 01 OB and auto.

I get around 300 miles to a full tank of 87 octane in my 99 OBW (4eat) if I drive like grandma.

 

Normally it is between 200 and 260 miles per tank when I drive like I usually do.

 

I do have a chopped intake silencer and a 2.5" stromung muffler which tends to make the car run a bit rich, and doesn't help mileage. Sounds nice though.
