No more signatures?!?! SIGNATURE POLL

Featured Replies

I just noticed this. No signatures. Yes its old news.

Personally, its ************************. I donated money so I could have a 1 line signature. When sigs became a problem, I changed the font and shortened it up.

So yea, thanks jerks, that had the long signatures. Now people have to post what car they have when they have a question. Whereas the signatures made it so people had to type less when they started a new thread.

Anyways I',m sure the admins are gonna feel good about locking and deleting this post, so go head. While you are at it, send me my 20 bucks back that I donated.

All you people viewing this, post your reaction.

I know others donated money to towards bandwidth and keeping the site functioning. As I see it, we are shareholders.

Hell I'll donate another 20 if you'll bring back the sigs.

i posted a similar thread in off-topic yesterday....maybe the mods will let it in.

I don't know why the admins just didn't take away the sigs from the people that didn't shorten it or take out the religious text. Instead all of us have to suffer just because of a few peoples ignorance. Maybe we should have a poll about it.

I think it was a good idea, if you can't remove the trouble makers, remove the problem, because if my signature was removed and not yours then i'd be complaining that i was unfairly targeted.

Quit your complaining, i gave money too, and i gave it in good faith that the moderators, who are all volunteers would use it with good sense. I have yet to be let down. They have to make hard and sometimes unpopular choices, but since the boards creation in 98 it has grown to 15000 members, so they must be doing somthing right.

Go to the other 30 boards if you don't like it here.

I vote we bring them back, but have VERY strict rules about them. Also how about only allowing a certain number of lines in the signature box, instead of just saying you can only have a certain number of lines.

If you are smart and know how to work html you can still have a signature.

I made mine as JPG file in photoshop. I host it on my own web site so it takes no bandwidth from this site. Then I simply attach my subyboard.jpg file to the end of each post.

signatures are nice. signatures are a pain.

i like them. but, the foundational goal of this board is probably something related to building a resource for subaru enthusiasts. when i'm researching and find a good post about some procedure but have to scroll through 10 pages of information because one users signature takes up a large portion of the posts, it's annoying. not everyone has smoking internet speeds and likes waiting for the next page of information to load. or if we're scrolling through pages trying to help somene, also annoying trying to find the details of the situation.

in defense of the "offenders", many probably assumed it didn't apply to them, or never read those posts. i like the idea of deleting the violators, but realize that's not a good option in dealing with communities this large.

i don't mind not having signatures now that they're gone, brings the forum back to practicality. the added functionality is worth the price to me.

we'll always be needing to tell what vehicle we have. lots of people are new users, passing through, have more than one subaru, work on other peoples subaru's, on other forums, and should get into the habit of providing that information. if that starts to hog up time i'm sure the mods could add that info to the info under our name....like state we're from.

I don't mind not having a sig. I didn't have anything important in it anyway. I think that it is ultimately up to the mods to decide what goes on in here and I respect their decision. Also, not having sigs definitely cleans the place up. We can now see all the posts without having to scroll through 20 lines of sigs and 56k users can see the posts faster. Just my $0.02

i'm still stuck on the checkbox to show my signature when making a new post... checking it right now (for fun)

ohh... and not that i mind a whole bunch, signatures are kinda nice, and kinda not (uncool perhaps), but we always had the option in the user settings to not display signatures/pictures and other stuff. If someone was really unhappy with looking at signatures it wasn't that hard to turn them off.

Never used um!

I first want to express my appreciation for the board, and its members. It has helped me out of many mechanical situations I have gotten myself into. I also have a great deal of respect for the board moderators and members.

McBrat, I do understand your point, and the point the mods have in general; and I realize that there has been fireworks lately because of the very issue you showed us; but it would be nice for there to be some way for us to give basic info, like our which model/year our Subaru is without having to post it every single time, or making people go to our "profile". I guess you would not even have to call it "signatures", but "ride" or whatever else you want to call it. - that would not be off the topic of the board, and you could also limit it to one line without a problem - I really never had a problem dealing with other people's signatures (assuming they were remotely on topic) compared to other message boards I have read/used, even before the limitations were imposed the signatures weren't too bad - it would be nice to have it so that the board isn't completely sterile of expression - and as a last resort, you guys can ban people if you want to - I hate to be the one to point it out, but it is your perrogerative as a board moderator - I just think that signatures should be at least reconsitered.

just my 1/2 cent

Hey Brad (Torxxx), the start of this post threw me for a flashback, back to the times of BattleWagonMedic. (Jon) Boy could he rant. I guess that's why he was banned about 6 times. Just be patient, Brad. Things are cyclical. The signatures are gone for now, but I have faith that they will return one day. You could always list your car as your age, or state... there's always a solution.

My prediction that given time a new system will be set up and thay will come back with built it system perameters which will make most people happy, myself I enjoyed them , just didnt care for the ones that took up alot of space requiring you to scroll down to get to the meat of a thread,:brow: mods keep up the good work ,

i didn't know that. good to know.

they are nice, but when abused annoying. if turned off there would be questions that others would assume should be easily answerable. no perfect solution except tolerance.

First, let me say that this decision affected me as well. I had a signature that I enjoyed. It pained me to shut them down. So, when you complain and whine about not having them remember that others are also effected. Including almost every mod and admin here.

Second, This was posted and then made into an announcement viewable in every forum. Yet, noone chose to simply follow the rules and comply. Guess what? Problem solved because all members chose to try and ignore the rules the option was removed. So, in reality, the membership chose this. It was viewed by many and still noone did a thing about it. Some were asked directly to remove controversial signatures. And following discussions decided it was best. Except for one individual. The fall out from that single member caused this as much as anything. This is the way it is for now. Maybe, like the O/T forum, it too will return sometime down the road. However, the initial feedback is positive for the removal of said signature options. Less stuff to weed through to give or find info.

I hope that this will be the end of it. If not, then I will delete every post regarding sigs period. This site is a privledge to enter not a right. Follow the rules or not. But remember, the door swings both ways.
